Party Scene

Party Scene: It's best when you're over 21 and can go to the bars, however there are lots of party options for underclassman.

Party Scene: It used to be better. Or worse, depending on your view of things. People still get drugged through their drinks here, so even though people are generally nice, the party scene can be a bit. I personally don't go out much, but when I do, I usually regret it and wish that I stayed in with my friends, getting drunk and enjoying each other's company there instead of waiting for 20 minutes in the cold for a packed bus full of screaming drunks and puking girls, to take a half hour bus ride to the Lodges, only to spend 5 minutes at a party and hate it, go home and do the original plan. Man, just stay in. So much more fun.

3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: You just have to know the right people or be 21.

3 College Senior

Party Scene: Parties are as prevalent on the University of New Hampshire Campus as on any college campus. The campus can be fairly loud on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday Nights, but it is not bad. The Party scene is a good way for the student body to relax, but in my opinion they go too far.

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: I have yet to experience a "like the movies" party here. You have to know at least one person hosting the party to get in usually. There's no free alcohol at these parties usually. Once you get to know people, it gets easier to get into parties and to find them. Also just being on campus for a while you hear about what locations throw down. I'd say with confidence that UNH students party very responsibly.

Unfortunately, if you’re not into parties at all, you may be a little hard-pressed to find a lot going on after hours on or around campus. UNH is dominated by the party scene from Thursday to Sunday and sometimes lasts the whole week. Although many parties aren’t Greek-oriented, Frat Row is the place to go for true authentic college raging. Before or after these parties, many students go to the downtown bars, which offer live music, dancing, and alcohol. Apartment and off-campus parties are also a big hit with UNH students who enjoy a more intimate setting and relaxed atmosphere. Just about anybody should be able to find their niche at either of these two types of social events.

For students who are underage or uninterested in the party scene, UNH does its best to provide alternative entertainment, with events such as concerts, movies, and performances in the MUB. Most weekends, though, the campus is taken over by parties as the main form of enjoyment. Even though there aren’t any clubs within the Durham area, the majority of UNH students feel that the nightlife is in no way lacking. However, if you come from a big city, such as Boston or New York, the nightlife at and around UNH might not be what you’re looking for.

Bar ListingsWhat's This?

Murphy's Tin Palace

Murphy's Tin Palace is the only bar with live music every Thursday night. They have a nice patio with tables and chairs that many students call home during the warm days and nights.

Mike Libby's Bar & Grill

Mike Libby's Bar & Grill is the nicest of the bars on campus. During the day, it has a family restaurant feel to it, and at night the more tame students enjoy the company of others or the music and a pool table. Libby's has a rule that anyone who comes to Libby's planning to celebrate their 21st birthday will be given a free shot and a meal voucher-then will be asked to leave. This is due to numerous problems that have occurred in the past.

Breaking New Grounds

BNG is a favorite of the intellectuals and those not old enough to hit the bars. The coffee is always good, the music is always refreshing, and it is open until 11:30 p.m. most nights. BNG has its own patio furniture and is also a great place to relax on a warm night.
