5 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I have night class that gets out at 9ish and I feel completely safe walking back to my dorm. The campus police drive around often enough for me to notice and feel secure. I couldn't ask for a safer environment to be in.

Overall Experience: Class sizes are a little smaller than I would like, but overall fine. Professors are great so far. Course selection is okay, could be better.

Campus Housing: CTW 6th floor RAs are great and we are very close. Getting to the Union and classes is a breeze. The printer downstairs works every time I've gone to use it. The help desk workers are always helpful. CTWs rooms I am convinced are not all the same size though and my roommate and I got a pretty crappy suitemate. One of the newer washers downstairs seems to always be broken and the bulky washer by the wall makes my clothes smell musty and it takes forever to wash my stuff.

Greek Life: I couldn't be happier with my greek experience. I went through formal and informal rush. There was a mistake in my application thing for formal rush which was of no fault of mine, but it was taken care of so painlessly and nicely that I have not complaints. I am so happy I found a family away from home!

Athletics: We're not the best and going to games is kinda boring. The students and spectators that do go are respectful though.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: At first I was worried Kearney would be too small, but it is the perfect size. All my professors have been very helpful and they really care. The work load is too be expected for a place of higher education. The campus is easy to figure out as well. Overall a pretty darn good school.

Greek Life: UNK has a decent Greek life! Not as much so as UNL, but Greek life is still pretty important here. Many kids don't go Greek because it is so expensive to be in. It doesn't really matter if you're Greek or not, most people will still talk to you either way. Some of the higher-status frats and sororities think that they are better than Non-Greeks, and mostly only associate with other high-ranked frats/sororities. But many are super nice and outgoing and take pride in the university. They are higher in academic standing than average non-Greeks, and do get involved on campus and in good causes much more than non-Greeks. Some Greeks can be pretty cliquey, but it isn't too big of an issue here. G-Phis are the party sorority, and A-Phi's are the most academic sorority (and some might say most stuck up) and keep their partying on the down-low for the most part to protect their image. A lot of Sig Eps (frat) have parties that they only let other Greeks into, but usually if you're a non-Greek girl who is friends with a Greek girl, they will still let you in.

Academics: Professors at UNK are great! Well, the larger portion of them are anyway. Many of them love to engage the students in active discussions or debates and make class fun and interesting. You can take classes early in the morning, in the afternoon, or even at night; whichever best fits your schedule and lifestyle. They don't usually give you too much homework, but it really depends on the class you're taking. I have noticed that almost everyone piles on the workload the last month of the semester. It's pretty easy to enroll in classes online, and most of the advisers are very helpful and want you to succeed in your field! They have a writing center and tutors in the library to help students who are struggling. Every floor of each dorm has at least one or two study rooms or lounges, and the library also has lots of places to study.

Health & Safety: Kearney is generally a pretty safe town to live in. There's a low crime rate and I feel fairly safe walking across campus at night as long as it is well lit. There have been a few sexual assault crimes on campus, but not an extraordinary amount or anything. The school alerts us every time something has happened or if there is any danger in town or near campus. There are also lit up phone booths located around campus and the UNKPD provide a "safe walk" service in which they will walk you back to your dorm from wherever you are if you feel scared.

Overall Experience: Of course there's always going to be some professors and some classes you're not going to like, but for the most part, I've had a great experience at UNK with classes and professors! Most of the professors are very knowledgeable of their subject and also very enthusiastic! They show that they care about their students and their futures. The classes are always usually under 30 students, and a lot of the times I even get classes with less than 15! When you're taking your gen eds, those classes are usually going to be a lot bigger. The only classes I've had with over 80 students were science lecture halls that pretty much everyone has to take. Make sure you enroll in classes as early as you can, cause they do go fast and you don't always get into every class you need.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: UNK is known for it's great education programs. They do a good job of getting us involved in schools and getting us prepared for our futures. I don't know much about the amount of internships or recruiters on campus though.

Campus Housing: Life on campus is pretty different depending on which dorm you live on. For example, my freshman year, I lived in CTW, where most of the freshman tend to live (as well as CTE). These are the cheapest halls. As far as living, it was sort of sucky. The rooms were small and shaped weird so that it was hard to organize your room effectively, and it was farther from most of the buildings classes are held in. Since they're mostly filled with rambunctious freshman and football boys, there's usually more vandalism, especially to the elevators, laundry room, and things left on the outsides of doors. However, since the college experience is new to everyone there, it is a very social hall and you make tons of friends! I had tons of fun living there, even if it was dumpy. As a sophomore, I live in Antelope Hall. They are the most expensive halls because they are apartment style and you have 4 people to a room, but you each get your own small bedroom within the space. You get two bathrooms and cleaning ladies come and clean them every other week. It's super nice there, but it's not as social of hall since it's apartment style and for upperclassmen only. The dining hall sucks for how expensive it is, and you have to buy the unlimited meal plan if you live on campus.

Basically, lliving on campus is overpriced, but it's worth it while you're an underclassmen to meet new friends and it's closer to your classes.

Party Scene: It all depends on you. If you like to go out and party you can, but if not you don't have to.

Party Scene: It all depends on you. If you want to go out you can.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I love living in Men's hall. Everyone is friendly.

5 College Freshman

Academics: The science courses have great professors that really enjoy their jobs.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I've never feared for my own or my friends safety on campus.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: This school has an excellent Pre-Med program called the KHOP. That's why I'm going here.

5 College Freshman

Health & Safety: The school is very serious about safety. We have blue call lights all around the school and we have numbers of police officers that will give us a ride to our dorms if we do not feel safe.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I love the school that I attend and I would not pick another one if I had the chance.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Campus housing is very nice. However, there were some things that could be done to be fixed.

4 College Freshman

Greek Life: The greek life here is always looking for volunteer work.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: We have a great atmosphere at all every game, but there are still some work to be done on some teams.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: It is a great school and I always wanted to go there since I was a little girl.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I feel generally safe at UNK. It's a small enough town that I'm not too afraid to be out late, but I usually still have a buddy or am on the phone when I'm out late. The campus police do a great job I think and are around always, makes me feel safe.
