Missoula not only has four distinct seasons, but sometimes students can experience all four in the course of one day. It's not uncommon to start the morning in a winter coat, shed layers throughout the day, and return home with an unexpected sunburn at the end of the day. Most students characterize the weather as bipolar, moody, and mercurial.

Winter remains the longest season and can last as long as October to April, so if you have Seasonal Affective Disorder or hate skiing or snowboarding, Missoula's weather may not be ideal. For some, the cold can be conducive to studying. Because Missoula exists in a valley, it does not have the typical blustery winds that most of Montana receives. Summer and fall in Missoula make the cold almost worth it. With no wind or humidity, the dry heat and mountain scenery would make even an LA native jealous.
