Party Scene

5 College Freshman

Party Scene: The nightlife is dependent on your wallet and your friends, but it's vibrant. On top of that, the school offers free transportation for the safety of everyone.

5 College Freshman

Party Scene: The parties are fun, and frequent, but the best ones take place in Greek Town. The party scene enhances the quality of life on campus.

5 College Sophomore

Party Scene: Great parties! There are lots of bars to go to, and there is transportation is you do not have a car. You can take an apartment shuttle, campus bus, party shuttle, or STRIPES, which is a free cab that will take you home.

5 College Sophomore

Party Scene: Great parties! Most of them are off campus. They positively impact the student's experience.

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: I've only attended a couple of parties, but so far, I have had a great time.

Party, party, party—but remember that partying is NOT why you came to college! Mizzou is not considered to be one of the top party schools in the country, but that doesn't mean that partying doesn't happen. The weekends start on Thursday nights, with many of the downtown Columbia businesses having insane drink specials for those 21-and-up. Students can find a deal for any night of the week that will suit their budget. For those not yet of legal drinking age, there are always house parties. The house parties range anywhere from the mellow 20 to 30 people to the crazy 300-plus people. The party scene also depends on whether there are students in town. Over summer and winter vacations, parties are less frequent because of the lack of people in Columbia. Football games, especially after wins, are pretty crazy times. If Mizzou wins a big game, everyone and their mom is throwing a big bash in celebration.

The prospects for under-21ers in downtown Columbia are slim. Déjà Vu and Generic allow 18-and-up entry, and Whiskey Wild does on some nights. A newer addition is Galactic Fun Zone; this place allows 18-and-up entry, but it is still 21-and-up to drink. GFZ offers bowling and laser tag. Other than these places, students either have to make friends with doormen/bartenders or have a fake ID to get in to bars and drink. This can also be dangerous because there are hefty fines associated with fake IDs. Most places will just take your fake and tell you not to come back; others will detain you and call the police.

Another music venue that caters to the Columbia music scene and serves relatively cheap drinks, Mojo's has kind of a skuzzy atmosphere, and at times, it can seem dark and dreary. Sometimes, it's hard to hear what the band is trying to sing.

The Blue Fugue

This bar right outside of campus showcases Columbia's music scene. Monday is open mic night, while Tuesday through Saturday has everything from folk music to Hispanic dance. The Blue Note

Probably the best place in Columbia to catch live music, the Blue Note combines acts from Columbia's local music scene with big-name groups from around the country and world. Doors open around when the show starts. Club hours vary by when each show starts and ends. You can check out what bands are playing by going to the Blue Note's website.
