Guys & Girls: Most everyone attending UMC is fairly smart. Obviously everyone will be in the medical field one day.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: The programs pick the scholarships for you based on your application and interview. You do not apply for any directly.

2 College Sophomore

Parking: If you don't pay for parking you have to park very far away. Not good if its raining!

4 College Senior

Majors: I am very happy with the nursing program that I am currently in. The work load often consumes me, but I think that I am receiving the knowledge and skills I need to be a great nurse. I enjoy learning about the body and disease processes. More importantly, I have a genuine love for people and want to help them in any way possible. If I had the opportunity to choose a major all over again, I would definitely make the same choice. I cannot see myself in any other field. My goal is to be a registered nurse and to possibly advance one day. I have high hopes that it will be fairly easy to find a job in my field. There is always a need for knowledgeable and compassionate health care professionals.

Drug Safety: The drug scene at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is not very noticeable. Most of the students strive to be professional and keep their personal lives private. Policies are enforced regularly, and values are stressed. Because UMMC is a professional school, there are very high expectations for the students. Although I'm sure some students drink alcohol, they seem to drink responsibly.

Off-Campus Housing: There is off campus available but the crime has really increased in Jackson so I recommend living on the outskirts of the city.

5 College Freshman

Scholarships: I filled out my FASFA at the last minute and my financial aid was ready to go in a few days. The financial aid counselor was really friendly and helpful. She was able to answer all of my questions.

5 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Most of the students are dressed either in scrubs or business casual attire. Not the campus for street wear.

5 College Freshman

Administration: There are policies and procedures to ensure that everything flows smoothly. I love that. It keeps order and cuts down on chaos.

2 College Junior

Parking: There is a lot of parking, but only across the street. Also it fills up quick so you might park far from campus.

4 College Junior

Transportation: The shuttles pick up students at many different stops and run continuously throughout the day.

3 College Junior

Weather: The parking is across the street from campus, but there are buses to pick up students at stops which are covered.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: There are plenty of housing options around campus and in the surrounding cities.

4 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: You are in the heart of the capital city. There's any restaurant you can think of.

3 College Senior

Technology: There is one computer lab in the library. They are rather old.

4 College Senior

Campus Food: Campus dining is rather nice since they also try to accomodate to those in the actual hospital.

4 College Senior

Health & Safety: Being on a medical campus, the health and safety is better than you would expect at a general college campus.

5 College Junior

Majors: You can intern in the hospital or clinics around town

5 College Junior

Health & Safety: The cops stand on top of the buildings and watch out for you

5 College Senior

Weather: The effect of weather determines the attendance of students while attending college. One wakes up one morning and its raining, he or she will most likely stay in bed and e-mail their instructor as to their not making it to class. Now if its a vibrant day, the student would most likely get up like a soldier and go to class.

Campus Quality: Career Opportunities for the Students – There are quite a few job opportunities and fellowships for the students at UMMC. The academic programs are in full detail and very informative to the fullest. The social scene looks a little segregated into clicks, but that is everywhere. Unique opportunities is to actually have the opportunity to work hand in hand with doctors to learn.

4 College Senior

Guys & Girls: Scrubs or Jeans – All of the students are generous and do not seem to be judgmental for the most part. They all dress in scrubs or business casual. You will see a lot of students wearing jeans and t-shirts as well. Some relationships take place on campus, which is great.

3 College Senior

Technology: Slow Initial Loading – Computers are extremely slow when loading personal settings. Besides that, there seems to always be a computer for every one when you need it. Printing is also a plus because it is free and for the most part, the printers stay stocked with ink and paper.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: Really Safe – The hospital and school security is all in one. The officers are really helpful. They take pride in their jobs. I haven't seen any crime since attending the school. The are very strict on parking violations.

Off-Campus Housing: Apartments Are to Expensive for Students! Apartments are hard to find when trying to stay on a budget. Most apartments start at $500 a month plus you have to pay all utilities. In the area that the University of Mississippi is in its kind of hard to find a place with a opening. You have to search for a apartment within month of moving. Last minute apartment search is not an option. The school does not help with the apartment search. The cons of off campus housing is that it can get very expensive for a student without any finicial aid. When it comes to safety it just depends on the area in which you live. The pros are that you do have more freedom when it comes to living off campus. Also the school doesn't have any on campus housing.
