Athletics: athletics mean a lot to UMD so it brings the college and community together

Off-Campus Housing: right by the campus and theyre super nice, so the convenience is great. safety and neatness is also amazing they really keep up on it. i plan to be in an off campus house my second year

4 College Student

Off-Campus Dining: there are soo many places to go, and youll even see ads on the campus of dining places you can go and the options they have

4 College Student

Administration: if you do follow the rules then youll be fine but they are pretty strict about drugs, and alcohol. strictness otherwise the drugs, they are pretty average with parking and other things

4 College Student

Scholarships: a lot of deadlines are super early once school starts, but they do have a lot of options for everyone

3 College Student

Party Scene: sometimes they do get too wild and too out of control, but for the most part, most people don't do drugs or anything like that and really just want to socialize and have fun.

4 College Student

Campus Food: the dining hall and placement is so amazing, it's very convenient and great place to socialize. not a lot of options although.

Campus Housing: i absolutely love it there. the dorms and apartments are so crazy close to classes and the cafeteria. you really get the best feel for college and the convenience is so amazing. the process or housing and costs is so easy as well. everything i could ask for, is at this college.

Campus Food: Campus has several different options as far as food services go. The only thing I really miss on campus is the "Grab-and-Go", which was replaced by a sub-par sub/sandwich shop. The coffee shop has pretty reasonable prices and good bakery/sandwich options. Campus also has a restaurant, which is supposedly good, but I have never eaten there. Students and faculty both have meal plan options which seem to be pretty reasonable in cost as well.

3 College Senior

Scholarships: I have never really had a problem, my parents are dirt poor. work-study and other grants went up my second year. Don't know what kind of aid you're getting until late July, which can be a problem, and dispersement happens usually the first week of school (which means no ordering books online if you're reliant on that money)

Greek Life: No greek housing available, I think some frats have managed to find housing where they usually throw their parties. Most sororities are social, but with a heavy service component. All anybody knows about Greek is TKE parties, though.

3 College Senior

Academics: Anthropology is what you make it. There are tough, reading intensive classes, but there are also really easy classes. Psychology is the same way, although I have yet to find an instructor I connect with and respect there.

Off-Campus Housing: It's hit or miss. Duluth has very little free housing, so students often end up in the worst spots with expensive rent. If you know good landlords, you're set. If not, you can end up getting really screwed over.

3 College Senior

Campus Housing: I lived in one of the oldest dorms on campus. Tiny, with just a microwave and coffee pot. Food is not that accessible.

3 College Senior

Campus Quality: Pretty differentiated (meaning a lot of population groups don't overlap). Not enough lounge space. RSOP is great, but intimidating. Free weights are usually completely full due to sports teams. Green space is moot, as it's white space most of the year.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: it was easy and pretty standard

4 College Freshman

Administration: Its not too strict since you can get away with alot but if your being loud and obvious about it they'll crack down on you.

College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I haven't lived off campus yet and haven't really looked into it much. From what I know, people usually get a house with a bunch of people and split the costs. Otherwise most people live at Boulder Ridge/Campus park, but I have heard bad things about the management and that the high cost is not worth it. But it just depends on the person. You just have to weigh your options.

Health & Safety: Duluth is a pretty safe town but you should always be aware of your surroundings. Luckily UMD is all connected so you don't even have to walk outside at night if you don't want to which is nice. I have heard good things about Health Services but they are not open on evenings or weekends which is annoying. I say this because I needed their services during the weekend and I instead had to go to the urgent care across town.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: I think there's enough variety to get by. One definitely needs a car to go anywhere though because the only off campus dining places within walking distance are Tavern on the Hill and Qboda. Subway, Arby's, and Erb's and Gerb's are a little bit of a hike. Most restaurants are over by or in the mall which is about 15-20 minutes away from campus by car and an hour plus by bus. There are also a few places down on London road(where you get onto 35).

4 College Freshman

Administration: I personally have not had any problems with this. If you don't want a problem just don't cause trouble.

4 College Sophomore

Local Area: Having the outdoors feeling while living in a larger city is ideal.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Better than the small town I came from.

2 College Sophomore

Administration: I think it's kind of messed up that the student athletes can get away with most anything, where other organizations, such as Greek life, are watched constantly.

College Freshman

Party Scene: I don't really party but almost everyone else does. From what I know people usually just find houses at the beginning of the year and continue going there throughout the year. Minors are handed out frequently so be careful.
