Greek Life: I am not involved with greek like here at Michigan but it is very prevalent.

Campus Housing: Being a RA this school year, I have been able to learn a lot of what goes on to make housing possible and effective. I think that U of M does a great job building inclusive communities and providing a safe place for students to live and get to know one another. Most of the buildings are being renovated so they are also very clean.

Technology: Almost every building on campus has a computer lab and you can print wirelessly to the printers in these labs from your personal computers. It makes it convenient for those of us who do not have printers or do not wish to spend hundreds a school year on expense ink cartridges. Having a wide variety of PCs and Macs across campus also makes it helpful when you have a long paper to write and are getting tired looking and your small laptop screen. Overall, i think the University does a great job with the quantity and quality of computers they provide on campus.

Off-Campus Dining: Not Much to Work With – Unless you have a means of transportation, there aren't too many options outside of fast food; I have to travel to fifteen minutes away to a city close by to get the food that I really like.

Overall Experience: Glad I Chose Umich – UMich has provided me with so many opportunities to grow. I've spent time not only studying, but also making more friends and getting involved in more organizations than I thought possible. No one holds your hand through Michigan undergrad, but I relish the challenge to grow both academically and socially.

Off-Campus Dining: Foodie Delight – Ann Arbor has an amazing selection of restaurants. South U and State Street have great, relatively inexpensive options, while Main Street and Kerrytown house tons of gourmet and fine dining (great for when parents come up).

Drug Safety: Nothing Too Harsh – Drinking is much more common than drug use. The only drug you hear about on a semi regular basis is weed.

Athletics: Best in the Country – You cannot get much better than Michigan for athletics. This university has the most funding out of ANY school for their athletics. This allows them to provide their athletes with quality training, nutrition, and facilities. An example of this is their football stadium. They have a stadium which can fit over 115,000 people! It is nicknamed "the big house" for it's size and stature. Even for the lesser known sports such as swimming, they have equipment and trainers available at an instant if need be. It is more hospitable to it's athletes than any other university in the country.

Campus Food: Some Good – It depends on where you are staying. Some dining halls are pretty basic and don't give you too much variety, however, If you go to west quad they will give you a lot of options. They have diets set up for people with gluten and lactose intolerance. Also if you are vegetarian or vegan they will be glad to accommodate.

Local Area: Pleasant Town – Ann Arbor is a nice, safe town. It is around 100,000 people and is very green and beautiful. You are never to far away from something if you need it.

Drug Safety: Strict Law With Loopholes – The drug and alcohol rules at U of M are extremely strict. There is absolutely no tolerance for any illegal activity by students in regards to alcohol and drugs. If you are caught in possession, you will be fined. Worse consequences have been noted, even reaching into your academic standing. Drugs are not really big on campus, however their have been some noted cases. Drinking seems to be the most prominent activity, especially during tailgatting season.

Health & Safety: Could Be Better – The security could be better, as a few incidents occur throughout the year. However, campus safety is very prompt about reporting to the students the accidents that occur and the general area in which they occured. An email is sent out whenever an incident occurs. At night, campus police drive throughout campus patrolling. This gives me a sense of security when I have to walk around campus late at night by myself.

Off-Campus Housing: Land of Tiny Room and Big Expenses – Ann Arbor is a great area, however the available housing is scarce and-- using rules of economics-- makes the housing very expensive. The parking could also be improved. There is a common saying: "If you want to bring a car, you might as well bring your own parking space too!" This is very inconvenient, and parking is almost impossible to find, without the help of a pricey parking pass. The community is trying to rely more on public transportation, however many students prefer having their own transportation.

Local Area: Great College Town – Ann Arbor is the ultimate college town: plenty of things to do and places to go. Everything in this area is tailored to a college student, from the store selections to the student deals. It is by far the best college campus that I have experienced, as I have been on many college tours and visits. Go Blue!

Guys & Girls: Many kids are not interested in dating per se. We just hang out in social groups and concentrate on school.

Overall Experience: The Best of Both Worlds – The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor harbors great opportunities socially, academically, and professionally. It has some of the top academic programs in the nation, and high ranking sports. The campus is intertwined between downtown shops and residential neighborhoods. Its the perfect place to learn and then go out and have fun. However one must keep the balance of study and fun in order to be successful.

Drug Safety: Most People Just Like Drinking. I think drinking is the most popular thing in Ann Arbor. I would say smoking is the second most popular. I think it all depends on the crowd that you hang out with, you can definitely find two extremes (people that don't consume anything at all, people that are "out there" about their activities). You won't be exposed to any type of dangerous activity if you don't want to.

Campus Quality: Everything You Could Want – There are numerous facilities available to students and most are open late to accommodate your crazy schedule. The athletic centers are very nice and well kept. There are numerous libraries available on both campuses so that any book, movie, or resource you could need can be accessed in some way.

5 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Something for Everybody – There are so many different food options on and around campus. Anything you could ever want can be found somewhere and there are a variety transportation options available that make everything accessible.

Local Area: I Love This Small Town – Ann Arbor is a beautiful place that contains an unique style. The place is filled with mostly college students, but everyone else that lives there is incredibly nice. There are a lot of delicious restaurants, which is one of my favorite things. When it comes to activities there is not that much to do, except for the ton of activities that are ran in the university by the students. There is a small movie theater and some nice places, if you like going shopping. My favorite thing in Ann Arbor is the open-minded atmosphere that fills the entire city. Everyone feels free to be themselves, and I think this brings up a lot of creativity and uniqueness out in its habitants.

Athletics: Michigan football is legendary. It speaks for itself. Other sports are just as impressive. For example, the Men's rowing team is only a club sport, due to funding, however they are always ranked above the Varsity teams of other universities. Also, I just recently read, that if the University of Michigan were considered its own nation, it would rank 55th in the WORLD medal count. Needless to say we have fantastic athletic programs and very talented athletes.

Off-Campus Housing: Not Bad – Ann Arbor has plenty of apartments around campus. If you can rent a place with a few friends, the place is affordable. Places obviously vary in quality and cost, but it is not very hard to find a place if you start early.

Majors: In the college of LSA, you can choose from many different majors and minors, which allows students to pick what will suite their own wants and needs for their career of choice. All of the professors want to help their students to succeed. If you ask them for help, they will never turn you down and will go out of their way to help you with just about anything. I haven't had any professors that did not love their job and that did not want to help their students succeed. I highly recommend going to office hours as much as you can, to speak with your instructors and get to know them on a more personal level. You won't regret it!

Majors: Most people (including myself, at first) think that majoring in psychology is a joke and that you cannot find jobs with a B.A. in psychology. However, I have found that it is quite the opposite. Majoring in psychology opens doors for thousands of career options. The University of Michigan is in the top 5 for Psychology majors in the nation, and if you take a psychology class at Michigan, you will understand why. Each of the psychology professors pushes their students beyond the average psychology major student and they expect nothing less than the best work from their students. In Michigan psychology classes, it is not just about memorizing psychology terms like in most schools because the professors encourage their students to think outside of the box and relate their work to real life events.

Despite the occasional complaints about weather, students at the University of Michigan love their school. With its outstanding academics in conjunction with its remarkable athletics, Michigan offers a perfect college balance: a great education and a fun social atmosphere. It is not uncommon to find students sporting Michigan gear around campus, and if given a choice, most would choose the school over again. Students love that they can mold their school to best suit their individual needs and desires. Whether they are looking for academics, athletics, or social outlets, Michigan fits the bill: In addition to its highly-ranked academics, it has a highly respected athletic reputation, and Ann Arbor's atmosphere is one to be envied, consisting of restaurants, shops, bars, and much more. Michigan alumni are expansive in both numbers and location. Michigan's alumni network is one of the largest, with many individuals holding vital positions in their respective industries.
