Off-Campus Housing: Parking in Ann Arbor is very difficult. Cars are only necessary if you will be driving off campus a lot. Some of the apartment buildings are expensive, but you can find a huge range of places to live surrounding campus.

Weather: The weather changes really quickly, so you usually be ready for a lot of changes. if you live on central campus you are close enough to run back and change, but not if you live on north campus. Every once and a while the temperature goes up and the sun comes out, in which case everyone is outside.

4 College Sophomore

Technology: UM wireless is very reliable and fast, I've never had a problem with it.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I've never felt unsafe at UofM, but we do get crime alerts time and again.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: UofM athletes have great facilities. Regular students are forced to go to the very outdated CCRB.

5 College Junior

Academics: Leaders and best- that pretty much sums it up. No matter the program, there are great opportunities to learn and to get a job.

Weather: Michigan weather is unpredictable. Some days in November we have spring-like weather, with 60 degree temperatures, and sometimes the temperature drops as low as 30 in November!

Drug Safety: An F for policy enforcement, but it's college and Michigan- a liberal midwestern town. People can be responsible, so the freedom is good. If you cant handle it then dont do it.

5 College Junior

Party Scene: Whatever you want. bars, "clubs," house parties (for non-greeks), frat parties, apartment parties... if you cant find something to do then thats sad.

5 College Freshman

Local Area: Ann Arbor is AMAZING. It's safe, there's never a shortage of things to do, and it provides access to any resources you need. It is a part of campus but campus doesn't overwhelm Ann Arbor. It is the perfect college town.

Greek Life: I love being in Greek Life! It is not a huge percent of the population but it is still large enough to feel the presence on campus. The greeks dominate the social scene on the weekend.

2 College Freshman

Campus Quality: The workout facilities aren't great unless you are enrolled int he business school and have access to their gym. The public gym is not air conditioned and is kind of dated, but they still have good machines to work out on.

Technology: There is a combination of Macs and PC's, and many are available all the time.

3 College Junior

Weather: It gets cold but it drives you to go to the library and study. It's not distracting like at other schools.

Off-Campus Housing: There are a limited number of apartments within decent walking distance to campus and the rush to get these apartments/houses is brutal--you need to start looking for off campus housing within the first two months of school. That being said---the houses/apartments are generally very nice and with the new additions of landmark and west zaragon a lot more off campus housing options are becoming available.

Transportation: They definitely provide you transportation (the Ride and the Michigan bus), and it is relativlely reliable except on the weekends.

Majors: I'm currently in the honors program and completing requirements to apply to the business school. Individually, the classes are not that difficult, but each one has a heavy work load and require too much time, so all together it's very challenging.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: My major, PPE (Politics, Philosophy, and Economics), is a program that allows me to pick whatever direction I would like to connect the three subjects, there is a great deal of flexibility.

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: There is definitely visible alcohol, especially on football saturdays. Otherwise, during the week things aren't too bad- I do not see that many hard drugs but they exist.

Academics: The registration is alright, the workload is not too difficult. The library is often loud and there is not that many study spots, but there are a lot of ways to meet with GSI's and a math lab ect

5 College Junior

Majors: We have everything and they are all ranked top 10 or top 25

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: It has gotten a lot better since my freshman year. East Quad, North Quad, and Couzens are all like hotels for this coming freshman class.

5 College Junior

Athletics: Football pregames are huge. The town goes wild on game days.

Technology: There is no doubt that you are able to find a computer in practically every building at the University. Not to mention, students' preferences to computer softwares (i.e. Mac or PC) are always met. In addition, a student is able to find many programs/applications available for their studies/entertainment in the computers.
Basically, you can make it throughout all four years of college without ever owning your own laptop/desktop.

Despite the occasional complaints about weather, students at the University of Michigan love their school. With its outstanding academics in conjunction with its remarkable athletics, Michigan offers a perfect college balance: a great education and a fun social atmosphere. It is not uncommon to find students sporting Michigan gear around campus, and if given a choice, most would choose the school over again. Students love that they can mold their school to best suit their individual needs and desires. Whether they are looking for academics, athletics, or social outlets, Michigan fits the bill: In addition to its highly-ranked academics, it has a highly respected athletic reputation, and Ann Arbor's atmosphere is one to be envied, consisting of restaurants, shops, bars, and much more. Michigan alumni are expansive in both numbers and location. Michigan's alumni network is one of the largest, with many individuals holding vital positions in their respective industries. Alumni love to return to Ann Arbor for visits and sporting events, often bringing their spouses and children. It has been said, "Once a Wolverine, always a Wolverine."
