Health & Safety: As a 6'2" male, I do not have a problem walking around campus alone at night and have never felt unsafe. But I do have other guy friends and many friends that are girls who prefer not to walk around campus alone. It is generally just going from studying somewhere on campus back to dorms and houses where people feel the most unsafe. There are blue emergency lights all around campus and there are numbers to call like SafeRide if you do not feel safe walking. There is also the app Companion that many people use which is very helpful.

Overall Experience: Early action decisions are usually released the Friday before Christmas. Because of the constantly growing influx of applications (51,000 last year), many many many deserving students are deferred to the regular decision pool. The key is to show a continued interest in the school. Generally, emailing your admissions counselor in January with an update on any activities or achievement that occurred after you submitted your application is a good way to go with this. Deferred applications are accepted on a rolling basis starting in mid January until they send all the rejections out in early April. A degree from Michigan is looked at with extreme respect and will get you a job if you apply yourself correctly. There are so many networking opportunities and career fairs on campus and there is an excellent career center to help out with finding jobs/internships

Campus Housing: If you are a freshman, you are randomly assigned one of many dorms across Central or North Campus (You cannot request a specific dorm unless you are in a learning community). They vary greatly and each has their own advantages and disadvantages. The general consensus is that you want to be on Central campus and not North because you have to take buses back and forth from North to Central where most, if not al, of your classes will be. It can be extremely inconvenient but it is much quieter than Central and you bond with those on North as well. The nicest dorms are West Quad and East Quad. South Quad has large rooms but they are fairly old. Couzens and Alice Lloyd are also very nice but hard to get. Mojo is decent. Markley is very old and somewhat dirty but it is all freshmen and the most social dorm so you are guaranteed to meet friends there.

Greek Life: About one in four students are involved in Greek life. Its up to you whether you consider that large or small (Remember UM has 40,000+ students). That being said, there are lots of frats and sororities and their presence is definitely felt. While I'm sure they all do their good for the community, they only seemed to be recognized by non-Greek students for the negative things that happen. There seems to be at least one frat kicked off campus every year and a sorority being suspended for all different kinds of things (The president of UM is very anti-Greek life). Party wise, they happen just about every night. Most of them are mixers strictly for the individual frat and sorority having them. But there are almost always open parties on the weekends for those not in Greek life. Many of them though, require that you know somebody or at least be a girl.

Athletics: We have the largest football stadium in the country. The entire city of Ann Arbor revolves around football on Saturdays where students attend crazy tailgates at frat houses and fans from across the country set up their own tailgates all around Ann Arbor. Football Saturdays are unparalleled to anything you will ever experience. There are also sporting events going on every week all year round so it's awesome to attend a volleyball game on a slow Wednesday night or cheer on your friends on the baseball team.

Overall Experience: There is honestly no better school to spend four years at than Michigan. I know everyone says that about their respective schools, but just consider this: What other college has the academic caliber and reputation of UM combined with world class sports teams and the largest stadium in the country?

Greek Life: Greek life is greek life. Usually it's black and white, you either are in greek life or you want nothing to do with it. With a big greek community there are a lot of stereotypes and reputations that surface. Greek life is a big part of the social scene. Guys who aren't in greek life have a harder time getting into parties than girls who aren't in greek life. Greek life is definitely beneficial when it comes to making friends. You are garunteed to meet people you bond with through rushing, even if greek life isn't for you. However there are a million other things you can do to occupy your time other than greek life. There are so many clubs and organizations to look into you are never left without anything to do.

Athletics: Our team itself is legendary, and with coach Harbaugh bringing in wins we haven't seen in years, there is a whole lot of hype on campus for all sports. Football and hockey games are always fun. We have the biggest stadium in the western hemisphere and it's safe to say that you haven't experienced a football game until you've experienced a game in the big house.

Overall Experience: U of M has been my dream school since I stepped foot on campus in the seventh grade. The university atmosphere is such a close community who all share an insane passion for the school. The team, the team, the team! Tailgates are the highlight of the first semester, you will meet amazing people who come from all different parts of the world with extremely different paths. You will meet people in majors you didn't know existed. It get's stressful, but everyone cries together during finals season so it's fine. Definitely a school like no other. Leaders and Best isn't an exaggeration.

Campus Housing: It's pretty great, everything is done for you except your own laundry. But you can pay to get that done too.

Greek Life: The Greek life definitely is the stereotypical type, but also people are smart here, too.

Athletics: If you're really into the hardcore tailgating and "sports-is-life-but-so-is-school" culture, then Michigan is for you!

Overall Experience: I really just love the atmosphere at the University of Michigan. There's an energy, both intellectual and social, that can be felt that really just motivates you to 110% at everything. Work hard, play hard... that's what it is like here.

Overall Experience: Ann Arbor just feels like a great place to be. So far every one that I have met has been kind and there is nothing that I dread doing because the people are so great. Being nine hours away from home isn't so bad when you don't spend the whole time homesick.

Overall Experience: There's so much energy all the time. Everyone is so proud to be a Michigan wolverine, it's great to be a part of it! There is a lot of challenging school work but in the end it's worth all the work.

Overall Experience: Well I'm currently studying at the University of Michigan, which is known for its business and engineering programs. But I'm currently triple-majoring in Linguistics, Spanish, and Japanese. And I am constantly impressed by just how amazing our faculty is here. In almost every department, there is at least one professor that is a leading contributor in his/her field. I've taken several classes where the textbook that we use to structure the class was written by the professor him/herself.

I personally have never attended another school, but I assume that this is very atypical for colleges. And it's something that I take pride in as a Wolverine. One of our slogans here is "the leaders and the best". Now I will admit that I can see the pride, and perhaps the arrogance as well, in this statement, but I find it to be quite fitting. I came to Michigan because it's a university taught by the best, for the best.

Overall Experience: I really enjoy the location as it's not too bustling, but somewhat not like a ghost town. My peers are amicable and I am challenged with my studies, which is actually enjoyable in a way.

Overall Experience: The University of Michigan is a vast school with tons of resources that can improve the academic experience for nearly any student. The only major shortcoming I've experienced would be the lack of diversity. Considering it's large size, there's a rather low number of minority students, but there are several on campus organizations that seek to change this.

Overall Experience: Attending THE University of Michigan has its advantages and disadvantages. They don't call us the Leaders and Best for no reason. You have to work HARD. Class sizes can be ridiculous sometimes but the professors are always wanting to get to know students on a personal level and help them in any way they can. Go Blue or Don't Go at all.

Overall Experience: U of M is a great school in a great location. Ann Arbor is a quirky and diverse little town with lots of culture and things to do. The university is obviously known for its academic prestige, and it does not disappoint. School spirit is high and there is always a buzz of excitement on football Saturdays. The dorms are fairly nice; though Bursley, Markley, and Baits need major renovations (especially their dining halls). My favorite experience by far is being a part of the women's club lacrosse team and winning the national championship with them. Overall, I really can't think of any school that's got it better than us.
