Campus Food: Yum Yum! I've eaten at every single campus dining hall (save Oxford...bad hours) and have to say that overall, Dining Services does pretty well. You can look up the menus for all their sites online, so if you don't want what they're serving that meal in, say, West Quad, you can always go somewhere else. Also, learn early how to mix up the food. Add salad bar ingredients to sandwiches, figure out when special meals are, and eat around. Try to eat healthy (cut down on soda pop and desserts) because some of the entrees could definitely be healthier. As a longtime Bursley resident, I'd have to say it's my favorite: Sexy Grandpa, King Arthur, and the rest of the employees there are friendly and work hard to make your culinary experience a good one. I know the staff and know they try to improve wherever possible while still keeping things as cheap as they can. It seems pricy, but when you look at the cost of running the kitchens (electricity, water, heat, plus paying everyone slightly more than minimum wage with good benefits for union-workers, and the cost of food) they do pretty well.

Administration: Not Very Strict – The police tend to not enforce MIP (minor in possession) unless you are totally out of it. If you pass out or you're crawling on the sidewalk, you can bet they'll get you, but if you're acting relatively normal, they're not going to waste their time with you. However, if you are caught, which is rare, the consequences are pretty severe. You have fines to pay, and you'll also have to pay for getting your stomach pumped. :-/ Keep that in mind when you party.

Greek Life: Can Be Cool, Can Be Obnoxious – For starters, U of M has a great variety of fraternities and sororities, so it's hard to make a blanket statement to cover all of them. Some have a bad, obnoxious reputation, and the cool ones, generally cultural-awareness or academically focused ones, are quiet and don't get much attention. There are Greek houses everywhere, but some have better locations than others, and some are more visible. Parties are huge at some of the frats, so if that's your thing, keep it in mind.

Guys & Girls: Smart and Nice – U of M has a reputation for ugly girls (and guys), and while it is true for some people, there are still plenty of good looking people. There's a lot of cultural and ethnic diversity that you might not find at other "hot people" universities, and that's definitely an advantage, since you probably don't want to hook up with someone who looks like you. Most people here are exceedingly nice and smart, which makes up for being average looking. Too many people dress in the same, conforming outfit, though, so watch out for that.

Campus Quality: Depends on the Program – Facilities depend highly on the program you're in. As a Business Student, our facility cost $100 million and was finished last winter- it's a gigantic steel and glass eco-friendly behemoth. Less wealthy programs of course have mediocre and aging facilities.

Local Area: The Definition of College Town – Ann Arbor is a traditionally liberal college town. There's a vibrant indie music and art scene, lots of plays and concerts every week or month. Football is integral. Outside of Ann Arbor, metro Detroit has its interesting areas, but as a whole can get dull quickly.

Overall Experience: GREATEST SCHOOL EVER – Well, my first semester is a little rocky and I was scared, nervous and everything that was expected from a new student. I had fun, i met alot of people and I know my way around campus which is good because our campus is huge. I'm doing good in school, especially winter semester helped me out alot. I love Michigan and I love their sports team. GO BLUE.

Drug Safety: My school isn't really a party school. Our school work is hard enough for us to be partying and taking drugs. We are more focus and smart because some day we wish to full fill our both short and long term goals.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: The University Off campus Housing are usually really expensive because of the location. Some are old and not that nice but there are nicer ones further away from the campus but it's too far if the person doesn't have any transportation

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: There are many cops around. There are a minimal crime, and when there is crime, safty measures are used. I feel safe walking around campus at night.

3 College Freshman

Campus Quality: Campus Scene – Ann Arbor is a beautiful city with tons of trees, flowers, and squirrels. I love studying and reading my books outside with wireless internet. The history of the buildings still live through the tree veins.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: Buses are always running in Ann Arbor including the blue buses. Also if you have your id card you can ride the bus for FREE! There is service for late night as-well. Great system overall!

Party Scene: College Life Not So Hot – Ann Arbor is a college town so there are parties hosted every night. Everyone drinks alcohol or pre-games before going out. Night clubs are crazy and frat parties are just of ton of drunk horny people. Plus there are also "different kind of parties/frats." Bars are nice and more mature. My advice don't get in the habit of partying, because you are there to study and get a job.

Parking: Quite a Walk – If it weren't for the fact that we have shuttles running constantly from the visitor lots most students that commute would be late because the lots are not close to anything.

Campus Housing: Its about time for an upgrade everywhere...enough said

Academics: Excellent Place to Grow – Michigan is one of the best places to come if you want to get an education in Engineering. It consistently has one of the top three programs in the country for Aerospace Engineering. The professors are always available to answer questions and help guide students when they are having trouble. The varying personalities of the professors keep the classes interesting and thats why i attend every lecture.

5 College Junior

Campus Food: Fantastic Eats in Ann Arbor – Plenty of variety on campus and with my BlueBucks it is so convenient to grab snacks or a meal between classes.n

3 College Junior

Weather: It's Michigan – You can't really expect a whole lot. I can be 70 in the middle of April, and then snow again. It's fairly unpredictable, so you tend to need to keep a wide variety of clothing, which is difficult in the small dorm space.

5 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Bd's Mongolian BBQ – Since the university is completely integrated into the town of Ann Arbor there are plenty of dining options. Mongolian BBQ sticks out in my head as the best, next to Buffalo Wild Wings, because they have great prices and promotions, like all-you-can-eat buffet for only $10 on Mondays, and a huge variety of food that you can customize for your specific tastes.

4 College Senior

Campus Quality: Open Environment to Be Yourself – Overall U of M is a great place. It is very unique and offers so many different things and choices for everyone. There are so many diferent kinds of people there and it is excepting of everyone. Every ethnicity, race, culture, sexuality, status is there which makes it great for individuals to find themselves. Also, the education is outstanding.

3 College Senior

Party Scene: Downtown Is Better – There are always house parties, but it depends on who you know. ALso Frats always have parties but they get really old fast. There are a coupe bars that are mainly Greek, like Score Keepers, so I would definitely skip those. If you are under 21 you best bet is house parties and frats, if you are over 21 there are tons of bars, especially downtown which are a blast

3 College Senior

Technology: The computers and labs are great but I wish there were more places to print. Every building should have a small lab with a printer, so that you do not have to go all over the place just to print a paper. The network is very reliable and you can get great wireless everywhere.

2 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: Not Much Help from the School – The off-campus housing search has been very difficult for me. I've looked at tons of places with no luck, and the school didn't really offer much support in helping students find off-campus housing options.

1 College Junior

Campus Housing: No Way to Dorm Living – Although living in a dorm is probably a good decision for first-year students, there is no way I'd ever live in one again. Rooms are small, buildings are old, and there is absolutely no privacy.

4 College Junior

Athletics: GO BLUE – Michigan football is an amazing program. Football games are often the highlight of the year.

Despite the occasional complaints about weather, students at the University of Michigan love their school. With its outstanding academics in conjunction with its remarkable athletics, Michigan offers a perfect college balance: a great education and a fun social atmosphere. It is not uncommon to find students sporting Michigan gear around campus, and if given a choice, most would choose the school over again. Whether they are looking for academics, athletics, or social outlets, Michigan fits the bill: In addition to its highly-ranked academics, it has a highly respected athletic reputation, and Ann Arbor's atmosphere is one to be envied, consisting of restaurants, shops, bars, and much more.
