Overall Experience: I have had both a wonderful academic and social experience at the University of Michigan. It is a place that really cares about it students.

5 College Senior

Athletics: Athletics is pretty huge at my school with so many different varsity teams. We strive to be the Leaders and Best in everything, and we do a great job of it in athletics. The teams perform really well and seem to be consistently winning conference (Big Ten) championships, and even go on to national championship tournaments and competitions. The fans vary in quantity from team to team, but usually there are plenty of fans for each sport. Michigan has a ton of spirit as you see plenty of Maize and Blue around the campus, and individuals really getting into the games/competitions. The facilities are top notch, and are constantly upgraded with new technology to keep the athletes at their best and to gain an edge on rival schools. The athletic medicine department is also top notch, helping to keep the athletes healthy and competing at their best.

Health & Safety: I tend to walk with a friend late at night and we generally feel safe. During the day, the campus is very safe.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Class sizes are large however, if one wants to create an academic relationship with the professor it is very possible, they just need to attend office hours. The quality of courses is usually very satisfactory and the variety of courses offered is wide.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Many employers look specifically for students attending (or have attended) the University of Michigan.

Campus Housing: I live off campus. The apartment I live in is very well kept and close to campus, but the only downside to it is that the rent is very expensive.

Overall Experience: I think the University of Michigan is great and I love being part of the leaders and best. However, the introduction classes are made extremely difficult in order to discourage some people who are pre-health from continuing on that path.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Organize roommates better and assigning rooms. Second semester there are a lot of vacant rooms even though I was assigned a roomate.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: I think that the greek life feel that they are more important than what they really are.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: The recreation buildings need to be redone.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: U of M offers so many opportunities to all students and I truly feel at home here. classes challenge me here and I feel that the information I learn will apply later and life and that I truly learn the material. Best choice and I feel like a victor and a leader.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: the football stadium is extremely hype and fun! I love it

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: yeah it's good and i love the urban feel of the school

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: What I'd say to prospective out-of-staters is this: Don't come to a large, public school expecting a private school. This might seem obvious but honestly I think U-M's decent rankings and reputation would have you thinking it provides a different kind of education then it does. You're going to have big classes (though they tend to get smaller), you're going to meet people who don't seem very smart at all, and you might at times feel like "just a number" and that registration is more difficult than you expected. However, if you're willing to take all that- and especially if you like sports, partying, and having a variety of club/organization options- your experience here will likely still be good. But again, don't come expecting a private school education (even though as an OOS student you'll feel like you're paying for one).

Overall Experience: Honestly, depends on your college. Engineering and Ross have awesome career prospects and better career resources. In LSA you still have resources but nobody's holding your hand or just shoving opportunities in your face.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: There are bluelights on campus and I usually try to stay near them when walking during night. The moment you step off campus at night it becomes pretty sketchy.

Overall Experience: I really dislike large lectures because it can be difficult to concentrate and I am easily distracted. The way math is taught is pretty bad and I would avoid calculus here if possible. This may just be because of the GSI that I had but it isn't an uncommon experience. The general attitude of students can be a little annoying since everyone believes themselves to be incredibly smart. I will concede that there are many intelligent hardworking students, but there are also many that should not be so arrogant. I've been pleased with the variety of courses offered but since I'm in engineering it's a little difficult to take some of the more interesting classes.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Being in one of the best engineering programs in the country has it's benefits.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I'm in Alice Lloyd and since it was renovated a few years ago it's really nice. I like that it's near Mojo and the CCRB. It can be a little far to walk to classes but it isn't an issue because of the buses.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: The pre-professional frats are good to join, but honestly I don't hear about what Greek life does for the community. Basically I only hear about the parties they throw.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: Sometimes the atmosphere surrounding football games is intimidating. Most people don't even really care about sports they just want an excuse to get drunk in the morning before the game.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: The classes are fine, but some students are too arrogant about attending Umich. It isn't that amazing as a school and if I had been accepted to my top choice I would not have attended here.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I perceive the university to have a relatively low crime rate, and the campus security services are easily accessible, but most of the crimes that are posted on notices around campus happen near my dorm, so I feel a little uneasy when making my way back to Fletcher hall by myself after parties.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: The quality of my education at U of M is outstanding. There are many days when I leave class smiling because the courses I'm taking are particularly stimulating or the professors are excellent and lead interesting classes. As someone who would like to become a teacher, I am especially impressed by the quality of the faculty and how hard they work to create the perfect syllabus for the course they teach.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: It's fairly difficult to find a work-study position as a freshman student, but the university makes it very easy to find work-study positions in general and other job offerings--if a student wishes to find a job or internship, it is a fairly quick process. A degree from U of M is very valuable, as it is a prestigious public university and it is known for its academic rigor.
