College Freshman

Majors: I have not had an internship, but plan to have one next summer as a way to make connections and gain experience.

Local Area: Ann Arbor has been voted one of the best college towns in the whole US. The city is great. There is a myriad of places to eat, shop, or just hangout. You can always find the right place, no matter what you are looking for. It is a tad bit expensive for a lot of things, but not ridiculously. Overall, its an amazing place.

Administration: I haven't really had any first hand experience with them so far, but from what I have heard about them and by what I have seen, I can't really find anything bad.

Overall Experience: I had a solid mix of large lecture like classes and smaller ones for my first semester, and all in all, I can honestly say I had a good experience with all of it. The education is top notch here; you can't beat it. We are the number one public university in the country for a reason. The professors try their hardest to help the students through the challenging material (at least in my experiences. As for the classes available, if you want to take something, they have it. We literally have everything here.

Campus Housing: I got lucky; I'm in one of the newly renovated residential halls on central campus. That means that I have a clean, new place to live. I have air, heat, and a plethora of other wonderful living stuffs. But those who are still residing in the older places don't have it as lucky. Their bathrooms are incredibly gross, and the temperature regulation is nonexistent. Safe to say, Umich has some work to do.

Athletics: We are the most winningest team in college football history, and we don't let people forget it. Although we weren't that good this year in pretty much anything, we still cheered, partied, and involved like we were. It's amazing to be apart of the Big House on Saturdays. It's something that I'll remember for the rest of my life.

Scholarships: I got some money, but it was a lot less then what they said I would get. I'm still working to figure out a way that'll help me out some more.

Party Scene: It's great here! You can always find something to do, somewhere to go. It doesn't matter what night it is, if you want to just relax, hangout with some friends and drink a few cold ones, then you can find somewhere fun to go within a mile's walk.

Majors: I am intending on majoring in Spanish, Environmental Sciences, and International Studies. The only way I would be able to do so is if the departments were very willing to work together, and a lot of the classes were to connect. Thankfully they do, which is really great. The professors are wonderful, the curriculum is interesting so even though there is a lot of work it seems to not be too tedious since I enjoy what I am learning about.

Off-Campus Housing: I'm not really sure about much of this information, as I live in a dorm, and if I weren't living in a dorm I would be living at home, so I haven't had a need to find off-campus housing.

Off-Campus Dining: Sometimes it's a little bit hard to find a way to get to the restaurants you want to - if it's dark and more than a ten minute walk away. I find that at that point I just stay in and get food delivered - but there are so many inexpensive restaurants that offer delivery options to students it's practically a win-win situation.

Scholarships: Although I understand that the scholarships offered at the University of Michigan are strictly need based, I wish that there were more scholarships that focused on giving back to the community, or your grades for example. I am not eligible for any of the scholarships, but that doesn't mean I would not work very hard to get a scholarship if I was eligible for one. I wish that there were scholarships that everyone could apply to, and have the potential of earning them. Even though I'm not eligible doesn't mean that I want my parents to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on my college education. It's ridiculous.

Local Area: I have lived here all my life and Ann Arbor is unlike any other place in the world. There is always something to do, such as Restaurant Week or there are new exhibits at the Art Museum to be seen. I think in terms of everything that is mentioned in the description of this question that Ann Arbor excels. There are lots of sports and gyms, many students work at the local businesses, there is a mall ten minutes away - it's wonderful!

Health & Safety: The University sends out emails when there are crimes committed on campus, and I have also gotten some emails lately about a new necklace to protect people... or something like that. I feel pretty safe, although I never go out alone at night.

Party Scene: I actually don't go to parties, as I believe that as a freshman I should follow the rules, and I think that the way people drink on campus is really demeaning.

Administration: To be completely honest, I am not the kind of person who violates campus policies. I live at an all female dorm, and I think this helps me to develop good study habits and relationships. I have made a lot of friends, but the girls in my dorm are also very dedicated when it comes to good schooling. The rules here don't seem strict to me at all, but I know that other people would disagree, which is why I wrote that "It's great."

Athletics: In terms of Michigan Fan support, Michigan students have one of the best fan bases in the World I would say. It's really quite incredible to be in the Michigan stadium on game day. I loved having the opportunity to work at the games and be there before and after students arrived to the game... it is definitely a special atmosphere. The athletics really engage students.
