Greek Life: University of Miami is located in, Miami. Enough said. The Greek life cannot compete with Miami day and night life although it does contribute with events and activities throughout the year however, nothing too special or "worth it" in my own opinion.

Weather: The weather is ideal, raining mostly during the summer when classes aren't in, and breezy/cloudy and sunny during the rest of the year. Classes are only 10 minutes away on campus by walking, no more, and there is plenty of cover to walk under in the event of rain however, rain isn't no common occurrence. The campus is lively and students are always walking around outside and gather under the palm trees in the atrium.

Transportation: The metro and a bus take you to Miami airport, and the metro and the Tri-rail takes you to Ft. Lauderdale airport. Check for the cheapest flights. Campus has a great, free shuttle to get around. Honestly, except for the airport, you can walk to groceries, stores, restaurants, bars, etc. no problem. The school even provides free shuttles to Coconut Grove, the major bar spot, Thursday-Saturday nights. The weekend has free shuttles to the grocery store and Sunset Mall nearby. Miami really does a great job of taking care of its own students so a car isn't needed. There is also a free shuttle to the Medical school campus and Rosenstiel School of Marine Science, just check the times. A lot of clubs set up beach days, etc. with transportation, and friends with cars are great, too, just throw in some gas money.
Miami only had one metro line, which could definitely use a few additions. It is reliable, though, to the time table. To be fair, there are a lot of bus lines which will take you anywhere you want to go. I had friends with cars freshman year and a car starting sophomore year, so didn't have any transportation issues. Learn alternate routes to avoid US 1 traffic. Miami is a great city with lots to offer, so enjoy!

Off-Campus Dining: All of the Options of a Major City! The Miami campus has enough food options to be content on campus. For more variety, head off campus. Being near a city, there are innumerable great dining options everywhere. Obviously delicious Cuban food, and all sorts of international and American varieties. The nearby restaurant tend to offer Miami student discounts, so keep a lookout. Some places can be a little further and need a car or metro, since we are in a city, but a lot are walking distance, too! Ask around for the best places. You can easily enjoy top dining, and pay the price, but there are a lot of affordable options, too.

Overall Experience: Pretty Good – I've an upcoming freshemen. It's not a traditional campus, but it's for me. Play hard and work hard. Make friends, explore the world, and at the same time keep up the academics.

Party Scene: Academics is a first priority, especially when you are focused on your future. When you mCoconut Groove is the place to be, when you are of age. There is campus transportation to and from Coconut groove thoughout the night providing safe transportation for students. There is also downtown Miami, South Beach, Hardrock Hotel &Casino, and also downtown Ft. Lauderdale which all provide and exceptional nightlife. As far as underage, ladies get an exemption at some spots when being under 21 whereas guy do not. There are off campus house parties as well, if you find out the details.

Overall Experience: The University of Miami is an accredited university that is ranked among one the best university to attend. They are also a leading schoo in Law studies, medical studies, and many other majors. I have a learned a great deal and would recommend it to anyone. If you are looking for a diverse campus which offers culture, academics, sports, social life, and overall acceptance and advancement, attend the University of Miami.

Off-Campus Dining: Food and dining are just small parts that make up Miami. Restaurants are all over Miami and they offer cuisine from all over the world. Just outside of campus there are pizza shops, restaurants that offer cuisine from around the world, and supermarkets. Also, there are well known spots such as chipotle, Starbucks, and Dominoes. Within minutes are malls with restaurants, which can be reach by car or campus transportation (the school has a bus service that takes students to popular locations off campus). The prices are affordable

Academics: UM is number 38 in the nation for a reason, it's rigorous! We work hard here, even though some may still refer to us as "Suntan U". Professors push you but it's nice to see they care for your success. Advising is actually helpful here. Classes do fill up rather fast but you still get what you need to graduate in the typical 4 years without any problems.

Technology: Easily Accessible – There is WiFi throughout campus which is awesome and there are also plenty of computers throughout campus. The nicest part is printing is free! You get a certain number of prints per semester and it is extremely unlikely you will run out. You can print from anywhere on campus, go to a printer, swipe your student ID and your document you sent to a printer is ready! You can even do this from your own computer not just a UM network computer, if you install the software!

Scholarships: Barely Have to Ask! Although I'm sure there are mixed reviews on this, UM is great with scholarships. Most people I have talked to have openly said they have received a scholarship, and not just loans. I received a scholarship without even having to apply (This may be because I came in as a transfer though, I'm not 100% positive!). The school wants you to succeed and understands it is expensive but they are willing to help you in any way possible from what I have experienced.

Majors: Professors Genuinely Care – I transferred to UM my junior year and have had the opportunity to see professors at two schools now. I thought the professors at my previous school were great, but they do not even compare to UM. Professors truly want their students to succeed, especially my psychology professors I have known. They are all very accomplished and can help you make networking contacts too! They know what they are talking about and are always there to help you.

Transportation: So Many Options! UM has awesome shuttles that take you around campus rather promptly but they also have shuttles that take you to bars on the weekend which cuts back costs drastically! The metro is also right across the street if you want to go to South Beach for only 5 dollars round trip! The school also provides airport shuttles for 10 dollars for Thanksgiving and Winter breaks! So convenient! The police will also pick you up and escort you if at any time you do not feel safe!

Administration: Equal Punishment for the Crime – UM is strict with drugs, as they should be. There are also penalties for underage drinking but it is somewhat easy to do anyway as long as you are behaved and quiet enough and not seen by officials. DO NOT even try to cheat. UM takes the honor code very seriously.

Campus Quality: Never a Dull Moment – What's great about UM is there is never a time to be bored, unless you want to relax! The school provides shuttles to the local bar scene throughout the weekend so not only do you never have to worry about designated drivers but you also save money on cabs! UM also sets up so many activities all week long that the campus is always lively and active. I transferred here and it is a world of difference from my last school. UM actually provides you with so many ways to enjoy yourself here. It's truly an amazing school both socially and academically.

Greek Life: Clearly Here, but Not Overwhelming – Greek Life here is known and being a part of it is fun! But if you aren't that doesn't matter either. I'm personally not part of it but I still attend parties, social mixers, and formals! The greeks are always welcoming of friends!

Campus Housing: Light at the End of the Tunnel – Although freshman dorms at The U can be rough some times (loud, messy and often smelling of cheap vodka) it gets better year by year. Mahoney/Pearson, typical sophomore dorms, are much better than freshman and you have your own bathroom! The best are on campus apartments at the UV. It's a perfect place to meet new friends, too because everyone is always outside and socializing!

4 College Junior

Guys & Girls: It's Always Hot in Miami – The students at The U are gorgeous, and strive to be. Typical class wear is what most other schools would wear for a dinner date. Speaking of dates, there are plenty here. Although a lot of guys like to live the frat life, we have lots of relationships too! It's perfect for everyone!

Off-Campus Housing: It's a Lottery – If you can find affordable off campus housing, the by all means go for it. On campus housing is a lottery and is not guaranteed for upperclassmen, not to mention very pricey.

Weather: Hot or Rainy – If you love warm weather, then Miami is the place for you. Shorts and sandals will always be in season, and South Florida is just beautiful year round. During hurricane season, it will rain alot, but other than that the weather is ideal.

Health & Safety: Extremely Safe – Emergency calls in every area, a police department solely for the University.

Transportation: Horrible Parking, Good Shuttles, Expensive Cabs – There are free shuttles that take you to places such as Coconut Grove (bars and restaurants), Sunset Place (shopping), and grocery stores, as well as around campus. Cabs are expensive, but you can always split with people. The public transit is horrible, but there is a train stop on campus. Parking is expensive and terrible on campus.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: Good Variety, Few Discounts – There are a lot of good options to eat at around campus, including chain restaurants and several smaller restaurants. Some options take an expensive cab ride to get to. The options that are within walking distance get a bit old. Tons of cupcake shops and frozen yogurt places.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: there are campus buses to take you everywhere on thurs-sunday but not during the week.

Parking: I dont really park on campus but I know there is alot of parking at the dorms as long as you get there early enough and have a permit.

Despite daily griping about tuition costs, parking, thunderstorms, and hard classes, most students really seem to enjoy UM. Excellent attributes like the nightlife, weather, and culture seem to cancel out some of the bad things about being in Miami. For some students, these bad things include the unapproachable "hot" girls and guys on campus, while others find life in the dorms to be a challenge. The complaints about college are basically what you'd expect to hear anywhere. It appears that the bad things at UM really aren't that bad, but the good things are very good. Miami is one of the coolest cities in the world for a college student, and that goes deeper than just the superficial bar and club scene.

Students who are unhappy generally figure it out within a semester and transfer out of UM, usually to somewhere closer to home. College is tough, especially the first couple weeks if you come without knowing anyone. Making a whole new group of friends for the first time since kindergarten is one of the hardest and most stressful things you may ever have to do. But the end result of this process is friendships that you'll likely maintain for the rest of your life. Whether it's your roommate, classmates, fraternity brother, or sorority sister, college is a time when you should make friends and have fun. Despite the initial challenges of coming to college, there are few cities in the world that are as fun as Miami.
