5 College Freshman

Health & Safety: The U does a lot to make sure students feel safe when they are on campus. We are always informed of any activity and ave police right on campus, not to far away from dorms. They make sure that if we don't feel safe to walk at night, we can call a campus official to either walk or drive us to the dorms.

Overall Experience: I really do love my school. It has it perks and they outweigh the cons. I love the friends I made here and the professors really care that you do well. The social scene is active and pretty awesome. The academics here are rigorous, but worth it becuase you lean a lot.

Overall Experience: The value of a degree from here is very high. It the best school in florida and in the Top 50 in the U.S.

Campus Housing: I love the housing but the rooms are pretty small and the dorms are really old. The dorms are overdo for renovations. I love the community within the dorm. Everyone is pretty nice and cool to hang out with. Housing puts on a lot of events and tries to get students involved which I love. Overall, housing is pretty great.

Greek Life: The greek life on campus is pretty active and they are very involved. They throw good parties and give back to the community so it's the best of both worlds in that aspect.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: The gym here is one of the best I have ever seen and I love going there to workout with my friends.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: It can be very stressful because I'm on the premed track and the classes here are very rigorous but I'm learning a lot and I love the community. It definitely was one of the best choices I have made coming to the University of Miami.

Health & Safety: I mean you would be living in Miami, a large city with a fair amount of crime. There is also a fairly large drug scene because of this but for the most part if you are self aware of the situations you are putting yourself in anyone can handle the dangers of Miami.

Overall Experience: Attending the U has forever changed my life. I came from a small town and was relatively reserved but being in the fast paced and big school vibe on a small campus opened a whole new world to me. I have friends form all over the world coming form many different backgrouds, and have enjoyed college to the level that only people fantasize about.

Overall Experience: I currently have two internships with companies within commerical real estate. One being part-time durning the school year and the other a Full-time one with a large firm in Boston this summer.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: I only lived on campus my freshman year so I do not have strong position. But, for freshman dorms I would conclude it is a pretty standard living situtation.

Greek Life: I am personally a part of one of the 13 IFC fraternities. It provides a great way to me new friends and expand your opportunties within the school. This does not mean it is be all end all, Miami is such a large city that the Greek scene dominates the social aspects. Greek housing is also very limited as there is on like 6 or 7 house for roughly 25 social greek orginzations on campus. For the most part I would think that most members of the non-Greek community are indifferent to Greek life and stay in a somewhat disjoint circle of the Miami student body.

Athletics: Miami is a historically successful in athletics including football, basketball, baseball for men, and swimming, golf, basketball for women. While I have been here I have seen the Miami Men's go to 2 sweet 16s in basketball, Football was ranked as high as 7th nationally and Baseball made a trip to the College World Series and are currently #1 in the nation. These future professional atheletes are also very present on campus and provide a great image of the school. This is an aspect of college that is greatly overlooked having Nationally recognized sports as made me more dedicated to my University and will keep me active once I graduate. Fan support is also very strong (when the teams are good). As for non-varsity sports, Miami has many club sports that are available to all students to try out, but do not gaurantee positions. They travel both the state of Florida and US playing in tournaments and competeing for national championships. IM are also very popular with multiple sports in every season, everyone is given the opportuinty to try something they always wanted.

Despite daily griping about tuition costs, parking, thunderstorms, and hard classes, most students really seem to enjoy UM. Excellent attributes like the nightlife, weather, and culture seem to cancel out some of the bad things about being in Miami. For some students, these bad things include the unapproachable "hot" girls and guys on campus, while others find life in the dorms to be a challenge. The complaints about college are basically what you'd expect to hear anywhere. It appears that the bad things at UM really aren't that bad, but the good things are very good. Miami is one of the coolest cities in the world for a college student, and that goes deeper than just the superficial bar and club scene.

Students who are unhappy generally figure it out within a semester and transfer out of UM, usually to somewhere closer to home. College is tough, especially the first couple weeks if you come without knowing anyone. Making a whole new group of friends for the first time since kindergarten is one of the hardest and most stressful things you may ever have to do. But the end result of this process is friendships that you'll likely maintain for the rest of your life. Whether it's your roommate, classmates, fraternity brother, or sorority sister, college is a time when you should make friends and have fun. Despite the initial challenges of coming to college, there are few cities in the world that are as fun as Miami.
