The restaurants off campus are amazing, and most of them deliver to campus. You can get good food at plenty of places in Amherst, and there are also many good restaurants in neighboring Northampton that are well worth the pilgrimage. Working at one of the off-campus restaurants in Amherst has a lot of fringe benefits—namely, free food! A lot of the restaurants will even give deep discounts to employees of other local spots, so essentially, when you work at one restaurant, you can also eat for cheap at other restaurants in town.
Another great part about the Amherst restaurants is that they are a fun place to hang out. They are always playing good music, and most have beautiful murals painted all over the walls. On the weekends, they stay open late to cater to the many people walking around town. Overall, the dining in Amherst is so good that most UMass freshmen learn which restaurants are the best before they even know where the dining commons are located on campus. There is absolutely enough variety in town to not get bored.
