Off-Campus Dining: There's not much point in leaving campus to eat and it can be a little costly, but the off-campus food is delicious.

Off-Campus Dining: There are some fine restaurants at Amherst center, but need to go to Northampton for more meal options.

Off-Campus Dining: sometimes it can get too expensive like crazy noodles

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Most restaurants are in the center of Amherst and so they are easy to walk to. The price is reasonable and there are a few spots with delicious food. Chain restaurants are also available.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: I haven't had much off campus dining. Antonio's has some of the best pizza in western Mass.

The restaurants off campus are amazing, and most of them deliver to campus. You can get good food at plenty of places in Amherst, and there are also many good restaurants in neighboring Northampton that are well worth the pilgrimage. Working at one of the off-campus restaurants in Amherst has a lot of fringe benefits—namely, free food! A lot of the restaurants will even give deep discounts to employees of other local spots, so essentially, when you work at one restaurant, you can also eat for cheap at other restaurants in town. Another great part about the Amherst restaurants is that they are a fun place to hang out. They are always playing good music, and most have beautiful murals painted all over the walls. On the weekends, they stay open late to cater to the many people walking around town. Overall, the dining in Amherst is so good that most UMass freshmen learn which restaurants are the best before they even know where the dining commons are located on campus. There is absolutely enough variety in town to not get bored.

Did You Know?
  • As a meal plan option, students can purchase an Off Campus Meal Plans (OCMP), which most of these listed restaurants will accept. It is not associated with UMass, and it really only makes sense to get OCMP if you own a vehicle or if you don't mind taking the bus all the time. Check out for more information.
  • Delivery Express will deliver food from any of Amherst's restaurants to you. Lazy people can call (413) 549-0077.
