Facts & Statistics

Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Be prepared to walk—a lot. Also, bring rain boots.
  • Buying anything but the most basic meal plan is a waste unless you take advantage of grab 'n' go and stock up your fridge.
  • Don't skip orientation.
  • Fake IDs do not work well here.
  • Going on exchange for a semester is comparable in cost to attending UMass for that same amount of time.
  • If you are unable to register for a course online or via telephone, approach the professor and ask to be admitted.
  • Just because you need a course doesn't mean you'll get into it.
  • One bad grade can really bring down your GPA.
  • Time management skills are helpful.
Interviews & Information Sessions
Prospective students can visit the University Admissions Center and speak with a student admissions representative about various aspects of college life. Contact the Admissions Office at (413) 545-0222 to schedule an informal, non-evaluative interview. Admissions information sessions are typically held in the Lincoln Campus Center at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. every day except Sundays, holidays, and campus breaks. Reservations can be made through the UMass admissions website.
Campus Tours
Student-led walking tours provide an overview of the academic programs and campus life. Tours last about 75 minutes and leave from the Campus Center Information Desk at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. every day except campus breaks, legal holidays, and weekends in June and July. Please note that access to academic buildings is limited during summer months since school is not in session. For more information, call Campus Tours at (413) 545-4237.
