Overall Experience: Immediately out of high school, I was accepted to a prestigious nursing program at a private university in Upstate New York, and I never thought another school could possibly compare. To be fair, the University of Maryland University College is nothing like this previous university I had attended, and in an infinite number of ways, I am thankful for this. Upon becoming part of the UMUC Europe sector, I learned that the "suffix", "University College", of UMUC, demonstrates the unique aspect that unites the students and faculty all over the world, let alone the UMUC Europe branch or "parent school" in Adelphi, Maryland: "University College" announces that UMUC supports the intellectual needs of working class professionals, by offering courses outside the "parent school's" walls in accessible areas all over the globe. I believe that UMUC is a symbol of military promise, with a predilection towards military-associated families: in the post World War II era, the surge of returning veterans with a penchant for intellectual stimulation were educated by UMUC, with the hopes that the post-war era would give rise to a new outpouring of academic excellence in the country. Just a couple of years later, in 1949, the United States Department of Defense requested that UMUC sent a team overseas to teach college-level academics to active-duty servicemembers, and thus, to this day, professors go where ever they are needed, even deep within war zones. Keeping this in mind, I also learned that UMUC "set the standard" in the 1990s for continuing one's education online, and became the first institution in the United States to offer degree programs online. Coupled with the quickly growing trend of online intrigue and dependency, UMUC has grown to become a global leader and international beacon of hope in terms of adult and military continuing education programs. These incredibly unique aspects have greatly impacted me by allowing me to seek quality, affordable higher education overseas.

Overall Experience: I like that the advisors reach out to you to help you register and make sure your semester/session has started off okay. The schedules are set up for working people. All the classes for my major were online, and the hybrid class I took met one night per week. The pro for working people but con for your social life is that homework is usually due over the weekend on Friday and Sunday at midnight. Compared to some other online degree programs, I like that this one is attached to such a respectable brick and mortar university. The best thing about UMUC is that the instructors/professors and many of your fellow students are working in the field you're learning about, so they're a good source of real-world examples and networking opportunities to get advice and help with getting jobs.

Overall Experience: A lot of the professors seem to not care, and it takes a long time to get responses from school administration.

Off-Campus Dining: I love eating off campus.

Administration: Its about average I guess.

Scholarships: After my FAFSA was complete, UMUC did the rest.

Off-Campus Housing: Living in the capital city is expensive.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: It's Germany, so nothing is really open that late. You can find pretty much anything you want to eat though.

Scholarships: As with any process in dealing with the VA, it is lengthy and cumbersome. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful as much as they can be.

Scholarships: I received a call asking why I was not signed up yet for classes because I did get financial aid spring semester. When I asked how it worked, I was told it would all transfer itself after a couple weeks into the semester. After checking periodically with no financial aid being available on my student center I called and went in numerous times to try and get it figured out. The way financial aid works with this school was not explained clear enough so thinking I would have enough financial aid to pay the entire semester, I ended up paying a few hundred dollars, which I was then scolded from the advisor saying "You can't expect to go to school for free, that's not how this works."

Campus Housing: It is affordableThe school year is three semesters long. It was a wide range of programs

Health & Safety: On a U.S. military base overseas the security is very good. Only certain people can even get on base.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: Military members are not only involved in being in good physical condition, they have to, so base offers a variety of team sports.

3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: There are a plethora of partying options for a college student around the college building on base. The economy is designed around a single sailors lifestyle, so you can bet there are plenty of places to party around this college even if it is primarily an online school.

5 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: I live in Japan! The local cuisine just a short walk from the class building and the variety and sheer volume of options is unparalleled.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: I have a lot of questions! The administration is always very helpful and thorough. The only thing I don't appreciate is the office closes at 1pm during the week!

4 College Sophomore

Administration: While all interaction has been on-line it seems the schools policies are fair and equally enforced.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Currently I have applied but not received any scholarships but have had no issues with securing educational loans at the present time.

3 College Junior

Athletics: For as many fitness and health conscious students attending, the gym is a little mediocre in size and availability is very low for equipment most of the time.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: The city has tons of options with a lot of diversity. If you are health conscious or a fitness nut, this is the right town for you. There are tons of vegan, veggie, and specialty options around the town that are defiantly worth the extra cash. The area is a litter pricier in general, so with that groceries and restaurants are also higher in cost.

Administration: The administration isn't much help- if you can ever find one. If you have problems finding one however, all you need to do is park in the wrong spot, or have the wrong type of sticker for parking issued for your own dorm, or have an outstanding fine, and POOF, they will appear before you or your vehicle like a genie, but not one to grant your three most desired wishes. And watch your toes, they love their golf carts!

3 College Junior

Campus Food: There are quite a few options, however they aren't all the healthiest. But when you are in-between classes, sometimes grab and go type meals will work.
