Drug Safety

5 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: I don't even see any real drugs on campus. It's barely heard of for people to get in trouble due to that sort of thing. Alcohol visibility, it isn't visible, most people don't drink. It's great because when it is around there isn't any pressure to do it because most people don't do it anyway. If anything there's pressure not to do drugs or mess with alcohol.

Drug Safety: I don't really see any drugs on campus

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I'm sure there's some substance abuse. Every school has it. But I have never seen it.

5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Drug safety is a big component to this university. It is a place where no slackness is tolerated and everyone is made sure to follow these rules. Recently they reinforced a tobacco-free campus and when nobody listened to this, the administration started to give tickets and fines to anyone who disobeyed.

Drug Safety: I only occasionally notice the smell of weed around certain areas. If you really want to avoid drugs, just avoid Potomac.

UMBC bans the use or distribution of illegal drugs and controlled substances on the campus and immediate vicinity. The University is committed to a safe and healthy environment, so any individuals who violate the law are subject to not only University disciplinary processes, but possible jail time or criminal prosecution.

Overall, UMBC is hardly synonymous with partying, and peer pressure is close to nonexistent. Upperclassmen will drink in smaller venues, such as apartments, but not in the dorms. Drugs are not a major issue for the campus community. Drug use can be found, as at most universities, but students who are caught with drugs, even if they are in good academic standing, will not be saved from harsh punishment. Most issues, including any drug-related offenses, are usually worked out between the violator and the Staff of the Office of Student Judicial Programs or the Student Hearing Board.
