Campus Food: The biggest problem with UMBC is its lack of support for students who live there on the weekends. The social scene is not very thriving at the school, and a vicious cycle is perpetuated because the students don't want to stay on campus at all. Most people leave on the weekends because there is barely any options and the school stays closed because no students stay.

There are some hidden gems on campus however. The coffee shop in the Admin building has great sandwiches and hot food before 2pm every week day.

Campus Food: Dining hall food isn't the best food, but it is better than some places I've visited. Also, the food places in the Commons Building is pretty good, though the options are fairly limited if you want to stay within the meal plan, so it gets old fairly quickly. All in all, it's pretty good, though it could use a bit of improvement.

Campus Food: Various options but too expensive

Campus Food: Overall my food experience with the campus food has been great.

Campus Food: The food options are fine. I do not have a meal plan. It is a college campus.

Students will never starve at UMBC. The dining hall, True Grit's, offers grilled selections, Italian food, kosher meals, made-to-order selections, salad bars, soups, and a wide selection of entrées. The Commons has a large selection of restaurants serving a range of food, including barbecue, burgers, Chinese, gelato, hot sandwiches, Mexican, Southwestern, salads, and subs/sandwiches. The campus also has a Starbucks and a Chick-fil-A, as well as Outtakes (commonly known by its former name, "The Spot"), an on-campus convenience store open for 23.5 hours a day. Unfortunately, students who keep halal or kosher tend to have fewer meal options.

When it comes to eating at UMBC, timing is everything. Most restaurants close by 8 p.m., leaving limited options late at night, but you can always grab food from Outtakes or choose pizza, a sub, or sandwich from True Grit's during its late-night hours. Overall, there is a diverse assortment of foods to please a wide range of students, but just make sure to eat your meals at the offered times, or you will miss out. And if you have dietary restrictions, look carefully at labels and nutritional information.
