Campus Quality

4 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: Facilities are clean and spacious, although they often seem generic and impersonal. The modernity of facilities varies - it is quite obvious which buildings are newly or have been recently redone. The preforming arts facilities are up-to-date, as are the research labs and dining areas. The dorms, library, and classrooms are a bit dating. UMaine takes environmentalism very seriously, so the campus is very "green."

Campus Quality: The social scene and facilities at my school are great. Campus life is mostly involved and friendly. There are weekly events that are put on my different student groups that many participate in. The library is a popular place because it is so large and open late at night. The mall is a popular place for students to meet and host activities.

Campus Quality: Student life on campus is great. The gym is always full of students and is a great facility to take advantage of. The library is a popular place on campus because it is so large and open late at night making it easy for friends and groups to get together to work on projects and homework. There are many events throughout the year that attract many students and are always a big success. The mall is a great place for students to hangout and have fun. Many students spend their free time there to enjoy the weather and meet new people. A popular activity is to try out the slack line on the mall.

A majority of the facilities on campus are not only aesthetically appealing, they are continuously being modernized and updated when necessary. Memorial Union is one of the busiest buildings on campus. From restaurants to restrooms, it is well-maintained and very clean. New additions to the Union are constantly being added. The Union has everything a student needs from the computer cluster to the post office. The fitness center and gymnasium provides students with many modernized amenities. The Field House has good equipment, a staffed swimming pool with several open-swim hours throughout the day, and great facilities for athletic games. Latti Fitness Center has unlimited use for students who pay a fee for membership each semester.

The classrooms have the proper equipment required for instruction and are kept up-to-date with modern technology. Raymond H. Fogler Library is the state’s largest research library. The library has plenty of facilities available for quiet studying on the top levels of the building. The social butterflies are best suited for the first floor of the library, particularly the Reserve Reading Room, where conversations perpetually distract all bookworms who eventually filter out of the room and seek refuge on the second and third floors. The noisy first floor of the library also houses the Oakes Room Café, where students frequently retreat for much needed caffeine boosts.

Favorite Things To Do
The game room in Memorial Union is a popular student attraction, or distraction depending on how you look at it. Having dinner from one of the many restaurants in the Memorial Union dining room is always a student favorite, and the Campus Activities Board holds events six nights a week (Monday to Saturday). The annual Bumstock concert in the spring is the most-attended event on campus. Also, there are always trips to the Maine Bound Adventure Center, University of Maine Museum of Art, and Maine Center for the Arts concerts and performances.
