Off-Campus Housing: Overall the living places themselves are really nice, such as the Provence. There is a pool, sand volley ball court and a movie theatre, which are all really nice and a great way to meet new people. the apartments themselves are spacious and the all of the appliances are up to date and the location to campus is really close, within walking distance. Even though the apartment are nice, they are also expensive and most find it hard to find ways to make payments. It would be more helpful if upper classmen still had the option the live on campus, but there are still other options, although not the cheapest.

Off-Campus Dining: I really like the options that are available, such as Burger Boy and Dairy Kastle. The food is great and is just a short drive or bikeride away from campus, which is great.

Administration: I'd say that the school knows what is important to be strict about, such as drinking and drug use. They dont allow excuses for anyone, which I appreciate and this makes me feel safe and secure while on campus. Other things, such as visitationan being loud, they are more lenient on and seem to understand that we are young adults who want to have fun and sometimes that involves being a little rowdy.

Party Scene: I feel like the parties here are pretty average, it all depends on where you go to see a different type of party. Frat parties are always fun, the brothers go out of their way to make their guests enjoy themselves, they have great music, games and themes (some nights). depending on the event, the brothers will have charity events to help raise awarness for a certain issue or group, such as the "Polar Plunge" for ALS. It is a great way to get involved, meet other people and to have fun!

Scholarships: I honestly do not have any scholarships to my school, I always seemed to be missing something from my application that the judges were looking for. However, the school does have great opportunities available to earn scholarships for school, study abroad programs and so much more.

Campus Food: There are a lot of dining options on campus and off campus. In the SAC there is Wendy's, Jazzman's and the best of all, Chick-fil-a. The dining halls are upstairs and down and I appreciate how large they are, I dont feel cramped and the service is great. There is of course The Ville Grill and the CBC, both are nice places to go, if you want a varitey of choises to eat. I just wish there were more places to use swipes. I always run out of flex points and have way too many swipes left that I will never need.

Campus Housing: I live in a traditional dorm here at UofL and honestly, I think it was a great experience living in my dorm and on campus. It was the first time I went away for school, so it was new and a little scary. The rooms were smaller and there was a community bathroom that all of the girls on the floor shared. Unfortunatly, the bathrooms were always dirty, but that never bothered me too much. However, I did have a great RA, who made sure that all of the girls on the floor knew each other, so we all felt more at home. I love that I am so close to everything on campus. Everything is within walking/biking distance and I love how open and diverse campus is. People are always nice and willing to help and it was easy for me to meet a lot of different people and to make new friends. My favorite part about campus is, of course, all of the different places to eat! I also love our new student rec center, where I can hang out with my friends and the new gym, so I can work out and be more involved on campus.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I personally haven't dealt with off-campus housing but I've heard people around me talk about the experience.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are plenty of places around campus to fulfill your appetite when the ville grill gets old.

4 College Freshman

Administration: On most aspects administration is pretty lenient. There are rules and we all know the rules and consequences but those rules aren't outrageous requests.

Scholarships: I wasn't told all the information I should have been aware of at the beginning of the semester and it caused trouble later in the semester.

Campus Food: Even the places that don't take flex or swipe are cheap!

Campus Housing: Everyone is friendly and my room is great!

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: I really enjoy the off-campus dining. It could be because I get tired of the same food on campus all of the time. I find Taco Bell cheap and it has many different options. There is a wide variety.

4 College Freshman

Administration: I think the strictness at school is right where it should be. They aren't too strict but they let it be known of what is definitely not okay and I think that's great.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: The financial process goes smoothly somewhat. It kind of took a while and was a bit too much to deal with but maybe that was simply because it was my first time.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: I think that the food and dining services are okay. They have a wide variety somewhat. I feel like some of the places close earlier than they should sometimes.

5 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I am rating living on campus the best simply because it is. It gives you the independence you should have as an adult to live without your parents. You have to start taking responsibility which is a part of growing up. At this age, you should be doing your own laundry. Living on campus has made me appreciate the little things my mother does for me back home that I never really gave much attention to. The social atmosphere is great as well because you are living with these people who will most likely be in one of your classes so it is helping you make friends. It also makes you study more and you are more caught up on your homework because you live at school. It will honestly help your grades.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I think it's pretty bad that current freshman are mandated to get off campus housing next fall which is more expensive.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: It is pretty close to campus and we can use our cardinal cards.

3 College Freshman

Administration: Students have to supply Doctor's slip if classes are missed due to illness.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

The University of Louisville isn't perfect, but to those who love it, the flaws only add to the experience. Not everyone likes going to such a large university—it can be very intimidating, especially if you come from a smaller high school. However, the crowds offer an opportunity to improve your social skills and make as many new friends as you want. And even with a huge student body, most people find a tight group of friends that they stick with throughout their time at U of L. Most students make friends with other residents in their dorm hall or by joining clubs or Greek organizations.

The professors and other University staff are so friendly and offer lots of personal attention. You wouldn't normally expect this at such a big school, but that's one thing that makes U of L special. Another thing the University provides is an almost endless list of opportunities for students. They may have to go looking in the right places, but there are so many things for U of L student to try out and experience. There are plenty of study abroad opportunities, as well as a career center that can help students get internships and jobs after they graduate. However, even with all of these opportunities and resources, some students say they don't feel that U of L offers enough for them. However, some people just fit better at a smaller school. A single college will never fit everyone's needs, so there will always be some left unsatisfied. If you take advantage of the resources, you'll have a much better chance of enjoying your experience. U of L has a lot to offer—you just have to jump in and grab it.
