4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The overall campus atmosphere is fantastic. The population is large enough to be diverse and comfortable, but small enough to be home-y.

Health & Safety: The only time we hear something bad that is related to a student, it happened off campus and at an event unaffiliated with the school.

Overall Experience: Many local jobs in the area are flexible with hours for college students and most of the big companies have a partnership with the school to have interns during the Fall, Spring, or Summer semester.

4 College Senior

Campus Housing: During my time living in a dorm, I never had any issues with my roommate or dorm advisor.

3 College Senior

Greek Life: The culture of Greek Life is fine. It can sometimes be difficult because the members of the chapter will generally pick their friends over someone that is more qualified, or worthy.

Athletics: Louisville has one of the greatest athletic programs in the country. We have top of the line facilities with outstanding teams.

Overall Experience: Being in the city of Louisville, there is always something going on. It's great to have multiple events in the city to keep from feeling so stressed.

Overall Experience: I did my research before selecting this University

Health & Safety: Deans keeps students up on crime events taking place.

5 College Senior

Greek Life: I am a Sigma Chi.

Athletics: Everyone gets involved in all sports.

4 College Junior

Party Scene: There are plenty of parties. There's probably a different party every single night.

3 College Junior

Party Scene: There are many parties. For some students that's not a good thing. Alcohol abuse, sexual harassment, etc.

3 College Junior

Academics: In most programs, students seem satisfied. When a student has a good professor, they're a really good professor. The registration process can be really tedious. For one semester, I didn't even have an advisor.

Diversity: Our campus seems to brag about how diverse it is. But, minorities aren't treated well. Last year the president had a party with students and staff in brown face. When the Latin American Student Organization and allies tried to protest, they were patronized and the whole attempt was in vain. The fact that there is a Pan-African studies department is a miracle. The Native American Student Organization will probably disband in a year. There were racist incidents in freshman dorms last year. Microaggressions run rampant.

Drug Safety: Most everyone will drink and/or smoke at least once.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: I'm not really sure how I feel about this school. I'm trying to finish up and get my degree. I was excited to attend a university with a queer space. But, the queer spaces seem to play favorites and not respect all identities. The school is predominately white, so I do feel ostracized sometimes, especially because some organizations for students of color are inconsistent. I am discovering that I like my field of study. I just wish I was able to get the classes I need and finally be finished with my core classes.

3 College Junior

Health & Safety: I'm not sure what to say, since many people keep quiet about sexual assault. There are events like Take Back the Night and new students are told about how to keep safe. But, that's the most I've seen.

Campus Housing: In my experience, my social atmosphere was a nightmare. The floor and the cost were the reasons I moved off campus. However, I work for affiliated housing, and the students living in those dorms seem to be very comfortable.

Overall Experience: From my experience, some staff at my school tend to play favorites. Sometimes my problems aren't taken seriously at all.

3 Recent Alumnus

Health & Safety: It's fine, but there have been quite a few shootings by the school, so it's safer to be in groups rather than alone.

3 Recent Alumnus

Overall Experience: It's pretty equal. But I am very worried about work after school.

4 Recent Alumnus

Campus Housing: It's good; but people mostly stay to themselves.

3 Recent Alumnus

Greek Life: Greek life is hard to get into, and most people don't really care for those who are a part of it.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

The University of Louisville isn't perfect, but to those who love it, the flaws only add to the experience. Not everyone likes going to such a large university—it can be very intimidating, especially if you come from a smaller high school. However, the crowds offer an opportunity to improve your social skills and make as many new friends as you want. And even with a huge student body, most people find a tight group of friends that they stick with throughout their time at U of L. Most students make friends with other residents in their dorm hall or by joining clubs or Greek organizations.

The professors and other University staff are so friendly and offer lots of personal attention. You wouldn't normally expect this at such a big school, but that's one thing that makes U of L special. Another thing the University provides is an almost endless list of opportunities for students. They may have to go looking in the right places, but there are so many things for U of L student to try out and experience. There are plenty of study abroad opportunities, as well as a career center that can help students get internships and jobs after they graduate. However, even with all of these opportunities and resources, some students say they don't feel that U of L offers enough for them. However, some people just fit better at a smaller school. A single college will never fit everyone's needs, so there will always be some left unsatisfied. If you take advantage of the resources, you'll have a much better chance of enjoying your experience. U of L has a lot to offer—you just have to jump in and grab it.
