4 College Sophomore

Party Scene: The downtown scene is great if you're 21+

5 College Sophomore

Party Scene: Nothing says 'party' quite like watching Netflix alone and eating ice cream.

5 College Freshman

Party Scene: Once you make some friends (trust me you will find people) there are parties all over. Also yik yak sometimes helps. LFK.

4 College Student

Party Scene: There's always something to do in Lawrence and there's plenty of options if the bar isn't your scene!

4 College Junior

Party Scene: The party scene at my school is great. There are a lot of different places where parties happen frequently. If you want to go out during the week, dollar night at the hawk is the place to be. Everything is a dollar and it is always packed. If you want to go out on the weekend, any of the bars are usually crowded and fun, there are also a lot of fraternity parties on the weekends, though that is not my favorite scene. House parties are also very fun if you know some of the people there.

Nightlife is a big part of the college experience, and KU offers many options for students. Bars are abundant in Lawrence, and students enjoy heading out during the week or on the weekend to take advantage of some downtime. Students usually head to Massachusetts Street because many of the popular bars are within walking distance of one another. The under-21 crowd can experience house parties that are easy to find within the neighborhoods around campus.

The mentality for parties depends on your age or Greek affiliation. As a freshman living in the dorms, the best choice would be the house party scene, and there are usually parties at houses in close proximity to the dorms. House parties are normally not too complicated—students usually pay for a cup and drink beer from a keg. After students turn 21, they usually hit up the bars, which is a huge part of the social scene at KU. Some hotspots are the Hawk, Brother’s, Quinton’s, the Jazzhaus, and Abe and Jake’s. These are all on or around Mass Street, which is home to most of the nightlife in Lawrence. Whatever you’re looking for, the choices are pretty endless in Lawrence.
