4 College Freshman

Academics: U of I's anthropology department is really welcoming. There is a wide variety of interesting classes and the professors know the material very well.

4 College Freshman

Academics: Really good. Great engineering and business program. A lot of work but many resources to help along the way.

4 College Freshman

Technology: There's plenty of computers in each dorm's computer labs and the school's libraries.

2 College Freshman

Parking: I didn't bring my car this school year and I don't really plan to in the future.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: Good bar and party scene. It's usually rare to be bored on the weekends.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: It's your average dining hall food. A lot of variety but after a while it all seems to taste the same.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I applied and I'm not getting the amount I need.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Alcohol consumption is clearly visible because of huge Greek life. Drug use not so much other than marijuana.

5 College Freshman

Party Scene: If you love to party and care nothing about academics, then this is the place for you. Most of the students are rich and spoiled. Everyone is just here to party on their parents' money. If you are a serious student, I would avoid this scene completely.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: there's amazing people and organizations throughout campus. the only drawback is the location!

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: even though we are considered a party school, we also know how to work hard. not only are we ranked a top party school in the nation, our engineering program is also recognized and highly ranked nationwide.

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: the main quad is great! there's always people hanging out and taking part in activities regardless of weather conditions.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: there's a wide range of interesting people at Illinois, it's not too hard to find someone you share common interests with

2 College Freshman

Local Area: it's a huge change coming from a large city! at times it gets quite boring being surrounded by corn fields and all.

4 College Freshman

Technology: i didn't have too many problems with the wifi. however, when i did i was always able to find a desktop in the library. there's also a computer lab in every residence hall

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: there's parties almost every weekend and alcohol is not hard to find, even if you are underage.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: other than jimmy johns, which is on campus, there's nothing open later than midnight. however, chopstix is amazing and they deliver!

3 College Freshman

Transportation: if you are taking the MTD, you'll have no problem. however, safe rides can be more of a challenge. they won't take you if you are anywhere near a bus stop or if you are with more than 2 people

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: the Ike and PAR have the best options in terms of variety and health consciousness

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: during the first days on campus, there was a maniac shooting blow darts at people. however, it didn't take long for police to make an arrest and nothing too alarming has occurred since then

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: living on campus can get boring to a person coming from a large city. other than parties/bars and RSO's there isn't much to do, unless you're willing to take an hour long bus ride to the nearest mall/movie theater.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: The people at Office of Financial Aid are very helpful and accesible. Just remember to fill out your FAFSA on time

3 College Freshman

Weather: Typical midwest weather: hot summers, cold winters.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: You can select from a wide range of options for living off-campus, from very cheap to expensive ones, close to campus or far. There is a very good transportation system so you can get to campus.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Although is not a big University in size, the academic quality is great, particularly in my field of study (Engineering). I love outdoors activities, and this school has one of the best athletics complex.

One might expect some tentative and even negative opinions about any school, but this is truly not the case here at U of I. Students are proud of U of I’s history, proud of is academic accomplishments, proud of the social opportunities it offers, and, most of all, they are proud to be alumni. For so many students to view their choice to come here as an unequivocally good one is a fantastic testament to the University’s strength.

Of course students here have plenty to complain about—the weather, the parking, the Greek social scene, the rural location. But all things considered, the positive points of the U of I experience tipped the scale—the University’s academic excellency, the safety, the social atmosphere, the athletic tradition, the city’s excellent transportation system. Some students admitted that they had a hard time adjusting, that they occasionally wished they had made another decision—but in the end, they were all happy to be here. The most encouraging fact was that so many people mentioned that they were leaving as better people, more knowledgeable, eclectic, and better equipped to navigate through life. University of Illinois students do not just leave with a piece of paper in their hands, they leave with a wealth of experience that is not easily rivaled—and, for in-staters, without enormous debt burdens to face when they graduate.
