Transportation: Coach busses run from Champaign to the Chicago suburbs daily and multiple times on the weekends so students can travel home and back whenever they would like for a decent price and convenience. There is also a train station right off campus that students can take to the city or anywhere else that it may run. Busses on campus are great but get very busy in the winter.

Local Area: It's great when you're in college because it is a college town! It is also in the middle of no where, which is great now because you never want to or need to leave campus but I can't see myself living here when I am older.

Weather: We are in Illinois so it's not the best in the winter but if you prepare yourself for the cold weather (good boots and warm coats), walking to class is not that awful. Even though the campus is big, most classes are still relatively close and busses run very often to make the lives of students easier. The cold doesn't stop anyone from going to class or going out on the weekends!

Diversity: The University of Illinois is the MOST DIVERSE school in the BIG10 and it is definitely apparent on campus. Meeting different people from different places is one of the most exciting things because it happens so often and everyone is very accepting of it!

4 College Freshman

Administration: Students at the University of Illinois are very independent and treated as adults but if someone does violate the rules, they will certainly face the consequences.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I have not received much financial aid, but there are definitely options and resources out there for those who need it.

4 College Freshman

Technology: There are many places that students are able to access and use public computers but personally I find it much more convenient to have your own laptop because we are always on the run and most professors allow laptops in class for note taking. A printer is not necessary but I enjoy having my own because it is easy and reliable. The wireless access is usually very quick so no complaints there.

Off-Campus Dining: There are many places to eat off campus but most students go out to eat on Green Street which is on campus and has a variety of options!

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Our teams may not be the best, but our spirit is! The entire campus is covered in orange and blue on game days and everyone is out to support the ILLINI.

Campus Housing: I love campus housing!! The 6-pack is the best place to live because it is right next to the gym, close to classes and we have a huge dining hall with a great variety of food. It is also the most social area to live because majority of freshmen live here so it is a great way to meet people!

Majors: I am proud of my progress and I would do it over again if I could.

5 College Freshman

Greek Life: There are a ton of fraternities and sororities. The process of getting into one is hectic but I hear that it is definitely work it in the long run. Greek life always has events and is extremely big on campus.

5 College Freshman

Majors: Admissions for my programs was extremely competitive. I faced the challenges of trying to actually get into a program but for the most part, it was not all that bad. The most important criteria for admission was the show the overall roundedness of your work. They like to see someone who excels inside and outside of the classroom.

Majors: In my program there are a ton of helpful people available all the time. I enjoy the program. It is highly competitive and everyone suggests you to get a job shadow or internship. There are a ton of people that help with getting an internship.

3 College Freshman

Weather: Weather is not bad at all. Not too much snow. Oftentimes extremely sunny. It rains a lot, but the weather does not affect plans.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

One might expect some tentative and even negative opinions about any school, but this is truly not the case here at U of I. Students are proud of U of I’s history, proud of is academic accomplishments, proud of the social opportunities it offers, and, most of all, they are proud to be alumni. For so many students to view their choice to come here as an unequivocally good one is a fantastic testament to the University’s strength.

Of course students here have plenty to complain about—the weather, the parking, the Greek social scene, the rural location. But all things considered, the positive points of the U of I experience tipped the scale—the University’s academic excellency, the safety, the social atmosphere, the athletic tradition, the city’s excellent transportation system. Some students admitted that they had a hard time adjusting, that they occasionally wished they had made another decision—but in the end, they were all happy to be here. The most encouraging fact was that so many people mentioned that they were leaving as better people, more knowledgeable, eclectic, and better equipped to navigate through life. University of Illinois students do not just leave with a piece of paper in their hands, they leave with a wealth of experience that is not easily rivaled—and, for in-staters, without enormous debt burdens to face when they graduate.
