Campus Quality: Best Place to Work Out – The facilities are the University of Illinois are amazing and modern. The ARC and CRCE are always clean are filled with the latest work out equipment. The student union is a great place to study (my personal favorite) with food and a great coffee shop.

Local Area: Small Town With a Lot to Do – Champaign-Urbana is much smaller than the previous cities I have lived in, but it has everything and more. The college town is accessible, with a lot of restaurants, places to study, live sports and concert. Additionally, Campaign and Urbana's city centers are quiet and full of small town excitement one can walk through and enjoy.

Administration: Not Too Strict – There are some cops around and they crack down hard on special events such as Unofficial or if you have your music on too loud at an apartment. As far as school policies go, Resident Advisors can get you into trouble at dorms if they find you drinking or smoking, and follow up with consequences

Guys & Girls: Typical Big Ten – There are so many students that attend U of I so you'll easily find a group of people like you. Greek life and drinking is pretty big here, but you can still have fun without drinking or being a part of Greek life. Students here love football games and there is a lot of Illini Pride

Technology: Pretty Good – There are computer labs and printers at every dorm. How the printers are set up are also convenient because you can just have the fee sent to your student account. Printing costs about 5 or 10 cents per page depending on the location. WiFi is available in buildings where classes take place, so most people carry laptops around. Network reliability and speed are also very good

Parking: There is enough available parking on campus but you have to pay to park on the street. However, there is not much need for a car on campus since everything is within walking distance and the University provides bus transportation around campus.

Athletics: Sports Are Great – Sports are somewhat of a big deal at U of I. Almost all students are involved in one way or another and the fan support and school spirit is great. The workout and training facilities are amazing and top-notch.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: Pretty Diverse – U of I is pretty diverse in the sense that there are a lot of students from all over the world. Everyone is excepted and included. The majority I see on campus are White and Asian students, however.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Strong School Spirit – U of I is very proud of their sports teams and take great pride in everything they do. Sport games are very important and very exciting to watch.

Guys & Girls: Diverse. So many different people, so many different interests. Its very easy to find a great group of people here.

Campus Housing: Not What You Heard – You come in with a extremeley bad idea of what the dorms are like, they arent rated the best out there. They are surprisingly good though. The dorms are small but very manageable. The bathrooms arent really an issue until the showers start flooding. Its cleaned on a daily basis. I would definatley suggest living here. The six pack is the perfect social atmosphere

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Green Street Eating – Very good choice on Green Street. Its Right off he quad so its still on campus but its really. There are alot of choices and its always open late night. Great place to go when you are tired of all the dorm food

Local Area: A Lot to Do! Shopping is pretty limited on campus, but you can take the bus to get there, it's about a 25 minute ride there. We're a huge school, so there's always something going on in some corner of the university, you just have to find what it is! Lots of friendly people. UIUC is a big party school, so on weekends, there's always a few parties to go to.

1 College Freshman

Parking: Rediculous! No Point in Having a Car – Only parking for a few hours is available, the only way to park is to pay for a permit and park far away. there is really no point in having a car on campus

2 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Fraternities Have a Huge Influence on Campus – Fraternities have access to all the drugs and alcohol, and all the students going there end up participating in all those activities

4 College Freshman

Technology: Computer labs are available all over the place, wireless is not available for dorms, but is available around campus.

Guys & Girls: The gigs and guys at U of I are wonderful!! So thoughtful and nice to each other!!

Off-Campus Dining: Personally, I think that off campus food is better than dining hall food, but if I had a choice, then I would probably stick with the dining hall food. Although it doesn't seem like it, you are getting your money's worth for the food that they offer in the dining halls. By going out to eat, that is going to add up in cost and if you do the math, that's going to end up costing more than what you pay for dining hall food. Plus, dining hall food is much more convenient for the students. However, if a student were to go off campus for food, there are deals out there that can reduce the price of cost for the food. Sometimes the school gives out coupons or gift cards within a contest or just a free book of coupons at the beginning of the year! If a student joined a RSO, then the RSO can give the student a discount card that can be used in certain restaurants.

Campus Quality: I must say that the facilities are top-notch! Everything has updated technology and is accessible to all the students. The workers at these facilities are friendly and would help anybody and everybody out with their needs.

Local Area: U of I Atmosphere – Although the campus is in the middle of two different towns that are both located in the middle of, what some people would say, nowhere, the atmosphere is great! The public transportation is free to U of I students and only a dollar in cost of non U of I students. If you did not need to take the bus, you can simply walk around and you'll find amazing places! It's like an adventure on this quaint, cute campus. The people are really friendly and the safety is really good! Everything can be found on Green Street, and if not, one can take the bus off campus to explore what the towns have to offer.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: Plenty of Buses – There are many of buses and all the routes are simple to understand. The only downside to the transportation system is the overcrowding during the colder months.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Large Variety – I'd say U of I does great with diversity. The largest minority by far at U of I is asians. There are many foreign exchange students which makes the diversity greater as well.

Athletics: Illini Pride – You wouldnt be able to find a better athletics department any where else. UIUC offers an emmense variety of sports from football to women's rugby to badminton. If you're not athletic, UIUC offers one of the biggest pride clubs you can find. They cheer on almost every sport, famous for Block I and Orange Crush. Being in a student cheering section is unlike any other feeling I have experienced, the atmosphere is just so energetic!

One might expect some tentative and even negative opinions about any school, but this is truly not the case here at U of I. Students are proud of U of I’s history, proud of is academic accomplishments, proud of the social opportunities it offers, and, most of all, they are proud to be alumni. For so many students to view their choice to come here as an unequivocally good one is a fantastic testament to the University’s strength.

Of course students here have plenty to complain about—the weather, the parking, the Greek social scene, the rural location. But all things considered, the positive points of the U of I experience tipped the scale—the University’s academic excellency, the safety, the social atmosphere, the athletic tradition, the city’s excellent transportation system. Some students admitted that they had a hard time adjusting, that they occasionally wished they had made another decision—but in the end, they were all happy to be here. The most encouraging fact was that so many people mentioned that they were leaving as better people, more knowledgeable, eclectic, and better equipped to navigate through life. University of Illinois students do not just leave with a piece of paper in their hands, they leave with a wealth of experience that is not easily rivaled—and, for in-staters, without enormous debt burdens to face when they graduate.
