Scholarships: I applied through the state. It was fairly straight-forward. Because I have kept my state scholarship, I just get notified how much I have been awarded each semester.

Majors: The Avian Biology program that I am in is great. I would certainly recommend it and do it all over again if I had to (but I hope I don't have to!) I love the professors, and many of the classes are hands-on, do-it-yourself, touch-it to learn kinds of classes. I feel like I can talk to my professors, ask them questions, tell them my concerns. I think the curriculum is very good as well as it covers a lot of material and goes in-depth.

Majors: My internship was in a ward at the vet school. The internship was for a month, and was not paid. I had to do a lot of driving to deliver some animals to other hospitals but was not compensated because this ward was not funded a lot of money and could not afford to pay the interns. I was required to give treatments and feedings to wild animals that had come into the hospital. A senior vet student was always there to help out. I was on call from 6 am to 10 pm every day of the week, and one weekend. I enjoyed learning, despite not getting paid, because I got to ask a lot of questions and do a lot of hands-on activities like tube-feeding a hawk, giving injections, and bottle-feeding a fawn.

Campus Food: Lots of places to grab food. There are some little places even in the academic buildings. The food made by the university is not that good, but it is neither terrible. I am not on a meal plan, but when I stop in the cafes in the student center, they usually have a good selection.

Off-Campus Housing: Lots of options, lots of prices, lots of locations. Go as close to or as far from campus as you want. I live right near a bus stop. Public transportation runs close to many other places. Most properties seem to be kept up very well. Options for roommates or living alone. Options for pets.

Overall Experience: UGA is unique because Athens is a college town. Downtown Athens is very nice to visit also for good food, drinks, and music. I have had very nice, very caring professors, and also very apathetic professors. The academics are mixed: some classes that should be more in depth are easy, and other classes that should have more involved, more understanding professors neglect the students and leave them to fail. Many of the facilities are very nice at the school; however, some of the buildings are neglected that could use more attention (for educational purposes).

Guys & Girls: It is a very mixed group. Some students are preppy, party-loving, and care about their grades. Other students are very academically-minded only. Still others are into athletics or the music scene that is so prevalent in downtown Athens. The most common attire is the "college fraternity look" which entails, for girls, an oversized T-shirt with the name of the event of a sorority or fraternity, and shorts and tennis shoes, and for boys, a normal sized T-shirt with the name of the event of a sorority or fraternity, khaki or colored shorts and boat shoes. Girls typically wear a messy ponytail and no make-up during the week, and on the weekends, dress in very short, very tight dresses for parties. Most college kids anticipate all week long partying and getting drunk on the weekends, and many times, the weekend starts on Thursday night.

Administration: The University of Georgia is very strict with their Honor Code: every student must sign the tests pledging that no cheating has or will occur. Professors are very serious about no cheating and make it clear that students that are caught cheating will face the consequences. I think it is excellent that the academic honesty policy is pushed so much because a lot of academic dishonesty occurs in college. It is unfortunate that students will still find ways to cheat without being caught because of so many resources on the internet, students keeping old tests, etc.

I have spoken with a friend younger than me and this friend was telling me about how they would drink with their RA in the dorm their freshman year, which was the previous year. This is not the first incident I've heard of. Underage students also get into the bars too easily. The bars are so close to campus that there should be more of a police presence there. Underage students get alcohol too easily on this campus.

Local Area: I grew up in Athens and I DO NOT want to leave, it is home to me though so it is hard for me to be objective

Campus Quality: I think UGA has a lot of money and we pay a lot to be there and it shows. We have excellent facilities, an awesome gym, and student center, and we have a beatuiful campus...except for the smoking. yuck.

Overall Experience: I just love it. It is THE university of Georgia for a reason. I am sad that they dont have a nursing major so I will have to transfer at the end of next year but I really wish I didnt have to

2 College Sophomore

Administration: There are so many bars right near our school they just cant keep up with everyone. I think they do a good job keeping it out of dorms but thats about it

Health & Safety: I am shy and easily get nervous but I always feel safe on campus. The only time it gets a little overbearing is during football games just because its soooo crowded.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: I just applied early as an undergrad so I didnt even have to write an essay. It was the only school I applied to so it was all easy breezy for me

4 College Sophomore

Majors: UGA is such a busy place; its hard to not be involved in SOMETHING. they really ebcourage you to branch out and try new things and grow

Off-Campus Housing: Living off campus is easy and its a college town so its super accessible and just awesome. Parking is a breeze once you have a pass. I love it

Campus Housing: I was in Russell Hall my freshman year and it was pretty bad. Very run down and very poor plumbing in the showers!!

Off-Campus Dining: Everything is convenient to campus and there is great variety. The Grit and The Globe are two of my favorites. I just wish student discounts were offered in all places to eat!

Greek Life: I am not in a sorority so I can't give a good description other than what I see from the outside. The Greek life appears to be good for the campus and the community.

4 Recent Alumnus

Majors: I am majoring in Biology and Ecology and absolutely love it! I am a bit concerned with the state of our economy with finding a job when I graduate in December. I ultimately would LOVE to own my own farm sanctuary and form a non-profit organization supporting animal rights.

One of the most amazing things about students at UGA is that I have never heard one person say they don't like being here. UGA and Athens have so much to offer in so many different categories, that there really is something for everyone. The positive energy of 30,000 people who are happy to be here is captivating, and something you will instantly want to be a part of. It will not take long before you regard Athens as your second home, and after about a week, most students forget how big a school it is.

It's exciting to be in Athens because there is always something going on, whether it is entertainment, a demonstration, job fairs, or just a chance to hang out with people you just met who are now your best friends. Students are encouraged to explore their talents and make the most of their four years here, and most students are able to achieve their ultimate "college experience." Sometimes, it seems like we are all characters in some cheesy teen movie because college life in Athens is so classic, but academically, socially, and personally, this school seems to have changed most of us for the better.
