2 College Senior

Campus Food: I had a meal plan for my athletic scholarship and I rarely used it due to the bad quality of food that they serve in the dinning halls. I even had training table, which was in the back end of the dinning hall for athletes and I still feel like the food quality could be better.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: It's okay for first year students in order tot ease themselves getting adjusted on campus otherwise I would not recommend it.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: The dining hall gets really old towards the end of the year. I would suggest not getting the unlimited plan, after a month or so you don't use it as much. Otherwise, you do have a decent amount of options that are included in you rmeal plan if you plan the use of your flex bucks right.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: There are numerous restaurants on campus such as Chick Fil A, Papa John's, Subway, as well as many others. Many of them are inexpensive and quick in theory but when lines are long the on campus places take a long time in order to get food. There is a good variety but it would be better if the variety included more healthy options because much of the on campus food is pizza, Mexican food, and other unhealthy options.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: Food and dining on campus is pretty typical for a large university. A lot of fast-food and convenience. Dining halls are decent but loaded with sodium, so if you like that then you're good. Meal plans are a waste of money - it's a lot easier and less expensive to go without one.

There are two kinds of on-campus food: the kind that uses up a meal block (Gator Corner and Fresh Food Company/Broward Dining) and the kind that uses up declining balance (everything else). The meal-block variety is pretty cheap, very filling, and easy to get to, and it’ll prevent you from lying to your mom when you tell her you’ve been eating your veggies. They do try to have a good variety, with hot meals, pizza, pasta, salads, cereal, desserts, sandwich fixin’s, and other stuff available at every meal. However, after a couple of semesters, you’ll probably get tired of it, and it’s not really anything to write home about to start with.

The best meal plan option is the declining balance route. You can put as much money as you want on the card, and you can have the option for an automatic reload when your balance gets down to $50. This money never expires, unlike the regular meal plan's "Flex Bucks" option. Flex Bucks give you the option to eat anywhere at the on-campus fast food places (Moe's, Burger King, etc.). At the end of the semester, if your Flex Bucks are not all used up, they go to waste. If you want more food for your money, the declining balance is the way to go. Plus, you will get tired of the dining hall food very quickly.

Special Options
On weekday afternoons at the Plaza of the Americas, members of Gainesville's large Hare Krishna population serve up a vegan and vegetarian feast, which is very popular. Technically, it's free, but they ask for a $4 donation.
Did You Know?
If you have the "Declining Balance" meal plan, the money you do not spend at restaurants rolls over to the next semester instead of Flex Bucks that come with the standard-fixed cost meal plan. Flex Bucks do not roll over, so if you are stuck with $45 on the last day of the semester, buy your friends some food!
