4 College Sophomore

Administration: Great when it comes to informing students on campus alerts

5 College Senior

Administration: The UF administration knows when to be strict and when to be lenient, which has proved successful.

4 College Freshman

Administration: This school does a lot to ensure the safety of its students. I loved the late walk program where guards were available to walk students home late at night from areas like the library.

Police reaction to law breaking depends on your record and what you’ve been caught doing. Underage drinking can get you anything from having your beer dumped out to being arrested, and if you’re a repeat offender who’s considered financially dependent, your parents will get a nice little letter from the Division of Student Affairs. Public drunkenness is not much appreciated, especially if you’re dumb enough to waltz across the UPD parking lot puking. Open containers (which are extremely common during football tailgating season) are most frequently just dumped out, although if you argue, you’ll probably get a citation. Drunk driving is likely to get you suspended from school, and drug possession usually means an arrest. One thing to keep in mind is that it’s not unusual for cops to bust down your dorm room door; more than a few RAs have been tipped off about illegal activities by the steady stream of noisy people with party cups wandering in and out of a room.

Also, it is pretty easy to drink underage at UF, and cops are somewhat lenient about that law. But beware: if you do get pulled over at night, be prepared to do a field sobriety test. Cops love to give these out for no reason other than just to be on the safe side. In addition, the University is supposed to be tobacco-free, but the cops never do anything about people smoking on campus.
