Off-Campus Dining: Tons of food options catered to anything and everything that students will spend their money on.

Diversity: Theres tons of diversity at UF, but personally I don't tend to affiliate with a diverse group of people.

4 College Freshman

Local Area: UF is great for college students and them only. Theres tons to do if you are in your late teens, early twenties and not mush room for anything or anyone else. Gainesville itself is a pretty crappy city, and I cant wait to get the hell out the second I graduate.

Greek Life: Greek life does so much for UF whether outsiders do or don't realize it. Greeks have the highest GPA's, are the most involved, and make the most connections. Whatever fraternity/sorority you choose, you are better off than not going greek. Its the best way to make connections and set up for a life after college.

Health & Safety: I only feel unsafe when alone at night.

Majors: I'm an accounting major, the classes are very hard and competitive, but if i make it through, I'm practically guaranteed a job. Everyone seems to be helpful and I'm enjoying being an accounting major! UF fisher school of accounting is top-ten in the nation.

Majors: You don't have to apply to be in the fisher school. They weed you out though. Its too hard for many students.

Transportation: Cars are nice to go home and to go shopping off campus. I usually park in a commuter lot far away. Motor scooters are a fast-growing method of transportation. Parking for them is much more convenient and they eliminate walking far distances.

Party Scene: If you're in a sorority, life is great

Off-Campus Housing: Overpriced, but you can find cheaper if you are willing to go further from campus. If you are looking to live near sorority row, you must be willing to pay more. Trimark properties has a near-monopoly over the entire area.

Athletics: UF athletics are one of the best int he country. Everyone supports one another, and fans go crazy at sporting events. There is no lack of school spirit and the facilities are all kept very nice.

Scholarships: School is expensive but UF's financial aid works pretty smoothly. Finish your FAFSA in January and you qualify for more financial aid. Apply to many scholarships. UF does direct deposit which means after your necessary payments are made any remaining financial aid is deposited directly into your bank account. It's very convenient.

Health & Safety: There seem to be many robberies around the campus but the student boy is alerted to them through email and text messages. The SNAP service is highly unreliable. They will not accept your ride for an average of 10-15 minutes and it takes 20 minutes for them to arrive. As a woman you always feel unsafe walking alone at night but some places on campus are not well lit or have flickering lights so it is not safe.

Academics: UF is a fantastic school for all majors. Engineering specifically is a difficult program consisting of general classes like Chem and Calc first. Course load is rigorous for all majors. Internship and job opportunities are consistently presented. UF alumni are everywhere over the country so there are many connections that can be made.

Administration: For the most part the policies are good. They are there for a reason and they aren't difficult to follow. The biggest issue is leniency in attendance for lecture classes. Most lecture class average about 250 students so there is not a "mandatory" attendance although it is encouraged.

Local Area: For the most part UF is great. A little boring on the weekends if you don't plan to party. There is usually plenty to do during the week. Everyone wants to be a part of the Gator Nation. Sporting events are fun and very spirited. Most of the city is centered around UF so many of the locals have no choice but to be friendly toward them.

Drug Safety: I don't know much about drugs at UF, though I'm sure if you wanted some you could find them. This is similar to alcohol. UF has over 50,000 students and parties happen every night. If someone wants to drink despite being underage there is plenty of chances to do so. You aren't allowed to have alcohol in the dorm if you are under 21, though there is no random checking system that would alert your RA to the alcohol unless he/she were explicitly told about it.

Majors: The Engineering program at UF is one of the best in the nation. I am unsure whether I plan to stay in it simply because it is not the right fit for me. However, they are very helpful and try to keep students informed and prepared for future careers.

Majors: UF is a difficult school to be accepted to in the first place. Once you do get accepted, and if you choose Engineering as your major, you are automatically accepted into the School of Engineering. Make sure you have a good GPA and are well rounded in extracurriculars.

Diversity: From what I've seen there is a wide range of diversity. My biggest problem is that there are people who will come onto campus and preach about sins and the wrongness of homosexuality. It is very uncomfortable and I wish I didn't have to see these types of people. There are many church groups.

Weather: Typical Florida weather. Beautiful one day and dreadful the next. Often rainy. Surprisingly cold in the winter.

Campus Housing: It all depends on the dorm you decide to live in. Some are old and have no air conditioning so they can get very hot at times. Other dorms are known as the "traditional freshman dorm" like Broward and Jennings and I know many people who regret living there. I live in Yulee and it is enjoyable for the most part. I have never had a problem with the floor and surrounding areas.

Technology: The printing labs usually always have a computer free, unless it's exam week. Internet can sometimes be unreliable though so be careful.

Off-Campus Housing: I love living off-campus! It takes me 5 minutes to get to the library, and 3 minutes to get to Midtown. The place isn't very nice, and they definitely take advantage of the location when charging rent. But to me, it's worth it. There are many options for living off-campus. I paid about the same price my freshman year to live in an apartment that was about 2 miles from campus, with utilities, furniture, and TV included. It was nicer than my current apartment. But, I hated being so far away and dealing with the hassle of transportation.

Transportation: Riding the bus is free with your student ID, and without it I believe it's only $1.50. I could be wrong, though. Zip cars ask for a tip, and I've never taken a taxi but I'm sure they're average. My one dislike was that when I lived off-campus, the bus would take 20 minutes to travel about 2 miles.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
