4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: I live off campus, and I love it. I could never live in the dorms.

Scholarships: Getting loans is easy, getting scholarships is difficult. Apply for scholarships through the individual colleges, the university itself won't give you anything. It is also very aggravating that they don't take into consideration that the student is not supported by their parents, even if they are still "dependent" because they are under the age of 24.

Administration: I feel like UF's campus strictness is pretty average for a large university. It's pretty impossible to control 50,000 students all the time..

5 College Junior

Majors: I am a Recreation, Parks, and Tourism major and I love it more than words can express. All of my professors have been incredible, and my advisor is one of the most pleasant people I have ever met. I am specializing in Event Management and I really feel like I am being prepared for my career.

Administration: I haven't had any problems with anything, as long as you aren't obnoxiously doing the wrong thing no one cares.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I feel like it is no different than the process my brother and sister went through at their public universities, but financial aid processes in general are worrisome.

Off-Campus Dining: There are a ton of chains, but also some very cool eclectic, mom and pop type places if your willing to ask around and venture a bit further off campus.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
