Academics: Intro classes are large lecture halls, so professors won't know you unless you go to office hours. Registration is a pain because it goes by credit hours and restricts you until your appointed time. The demanded and good classes always fill up quick!

Guys & Girls: Many are affiliated with Greek life. Honestly, people wear whatever they want in college. Some common looks are athletic wear, Greek shirts, leggings, running shorts, Sperry's, Jack's and of course anything orange and blue.

Scholarships: The benefit of attending college instate is Florida Prepaid and Bright Futures which helps with financing the price of college. The lines waiting for the Bursar and Financial Aid office become packed, so get there early if you need to clarify with anything!

Administration: College is about freedom and independency. The choice to go to class or do the right thing falls upon the student. Most rules and regulations are reasonable. Parking and speeding regulations are highly enforced.

Overall Experience: Honestly, first year transitioning to college was a little difficult at first. After school really settled in and the work load among other obligations and extracurriculars, I learned that college is very different from high school. However, college has been a great way to grow, meet new people, and experience and learn things. Second semester definitely was more enjoyable.

Off-Campus Housing: Many choices available when it comes to living off campus. Some are walking distance to campus, while others are farther away. Regardless, most students choose to live in apartments after their first year for more space and pricing among other reasons.

Campus Quality: Being part of the Gator Nation, a great sense of community and spirit exists and binds students and faculty together for a lifetime.

Campus Quality: Many activities and opportunities to get involved in. Campus is a little unmaintained, but new developments and buildings are being constructed. Many spacious libraries on campus including Library West, which is open 24 hours. The two gyms on campus offer tons of recreational activities to work out.

Campus Food: Not a great amount variety although there is variety nonetheless. It is rather convenient although I believe the hours of operation should be extended.

Diversity: With almost 50,000 students, UF has to be one of the most diverse universities in the country. We seem to have every race. We have tons of political and LGBT organizations. As a public university, we have a lot of kids who don't come from much economically, but because the education is so good, we still have a lot of "rich kids" too. You can always find a group to fit into at UF

Health & Safety: Probably about the same on every campus. There are security escorts, if needed, and security phones all over campus if you feel threatened at any point. I have not had a problem, even when I sometimes walk the campus late at night, but I am a guy.

Local Area: I like it because it is a real college town. Almost everything in Gainesville revolves around UF life. Whether you are on campus or in town, students are treated well. Locals recognize that students bring in a big economic boom and they are usually pretty decent toward us.

Administration: Very strict in some things (parking) and very good about security matters, like walking the campus late at night. Pretty laid back about partying, but maybe that's because I haven't been to many heavy duty, drug or underage alcohol parties.

Guys & Girls: The girls here are awesome, both pretty and smart. You have every kind of look going on here: beauty queen, goth, jock, average, etc. Maybe it's because we live in Florida, but students don't really let themselves go here much (not a lot of overweight students, etc.)

Athletics: Football and basketball are our biggest sports, but we have almost everything here. If you are not an athlete (like me) and just want to work out, there are some great facilities for doing that. School spirit here is phenomenal, both for the athletics and other parts of campus.

Campus Housing: Best dorm is probably Hume Hall, but I like living in East Hall. It's the Engineering dorm, so I live with other students who are in my classes. Location of East is really convenient too, for Engineering majors. We have RA's who organize social activities. Dorm life is very convenient. Everything you need is within walking distance. Housing process is online and easy to complete

Overall Experience: It's the best place for me. Challenging engineering program. Weather is colder than I am used to, but not too cold. Met a lot of great students, mostly from the state of Florida. Never saw a school with such great school spirit. Best experience with the summer program I took before starting my freshman year. It's where I met most of my closest college friends, and it made me feel very comfortable before fall semester even started. I would definitely choose UF again if I had to do it over again.

Campus Food: Lots of dining halls and options on campus. I like to use my flex bucks so that I don't always have to eat in the dining hall.

Academics: UF Engineering has a great reputation. The Engineering classes are not easy. Great facilities, but I am only a freshman.

Academics: UF offers a ton of majors. I have not met a lot of professors yet, mostly TA's. Registration is online, like it is at almost all universities. You can't get into higher level classes without carefully reviewing both pre-requisites and that the right course will be offered in the semester you need it, but there are a lot of sections offered for the lower level courses. Workload is manageable, but you have to be disciplined and organized. There is always a temptation somewhere on campus.

Campus Food: I had a meal plan my first two years, but now am living in an apartment. I love the convenience of the on campus restaurants.

Greek Life: Don't have much contacts with Greek life. I have a few friends in sororities, they like it.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
