Off-Campus Housing: There's a lot of options for students to chose from.

Health & Safety: At the beginning of last semester, there were several occasions in which a female became a victim of attempted rape; this went on for a couple of weeks and the man who was said to have been the attempted raper was never found and put away. It put a lot of the students at unease, we were afraid to walk around campus alone, especially at nighttime. Because of these incidents, the police department began new programs in order to help us feel safer getting around campus.

Administration: There really aren't many school policies that can affect a student's academic or social life, unless they caught doing something they're not supposed to be doing, then there will be repercussions that could affect these things.

Greek Life: I think the University of Florida student body puts too much emphasis on Greek life, entirely. Yes, the people in these sororities/fraternities are the ones who throw most of the parties, but that doesn't mean it's all that easy to get into these parties (if you're non-Greek or don't know anyone at the parties). I know that not all of the students who make up the Greek life population are snobby and cliquey and fake, but those things are what they're all assumed to be until one takes the time to find out otherwise.

Party Scene: There's always something going on, even if it's not the weekend. The majority of parties take place either in a fraternity or sorority house, or somebody's apartment or dorm. I think the party scene has a mostly positive effect on the student experience, it's a good way to meet people and escape reality for a little while. Just so long as everyone is taking appropriate precautions, there's no reason that partying should be a negative experience.

Academics: All of the professors I've had thus far in my two semesters of attending this school have been fantastic and care about their students. The curriculum really isn't too terrible, especially since I'm an education major. Registration process is so beautiful and easy... love it. Workload also isn't bad at all, I have a lot of free time this semester. Love studying in Marston Library and Library West, two of my favorite locations.

Campus Housing: So convenient living on campus, especially since I live in East Hall and one of the dining halls is right next to me. Really can't complain about the distance between here and my classes, either, the walk is always nice. I love the social atmosphere of the dining halls, half met a lot of my friends there. Overall cost for everything (housing, meal plan, books, tuition, etc) is a bit pricey, but what can you do? Housing process could be a bit more foolproof.

Local Area: There are definitely a good amount of activities and cultural events going on pretty much daily, the shopping is fantastic (love midtown and Oaks mall), love going to the gym, and the people around here are fairly friendly.

Off-Campus Dining: I don't live off campus currently, but the few times that I have been off campus, there are a good variety of restaurants to eat at. I can't complain.

Athletics: Athletics are probably the funnest part about UF. Football ames, baseball games, basketball games, etc. They all bring the students and even parents together as one, and it is such a fun experience. Our school spirit is ridiculously high, we literally bleed orange and blue.

Party Scene: The only parties I have attended have been fraternity parties because my boyfriend is in pike. As a frat, their main goal is to throw great parties to attract more girls into their 'house.' From what I have witnessed, these parties actually have a positive affect on the students experience because it is a way for them to wind down after a stressful week of school.

Greek Life: To be honest, I am a non-greek and my boyfriend is in a frat. Greek life pretty much controls the social atmosphere on campus, if you are not in a frat/sorority then you pretty much get left out on a lot of things. I personally do not life Greek life and I see Greek life as very a joke. All the sorority girls on campus are robots, and all the fraternity guys are pretentious. All non-greek pretty much sees greek life as paying for your friends.

Administration: UF administration is pretty strict but what else do you expect at such a great school? If they were not strict with social or academic lives then our school would not be where it is today. We go to school to achieve the very best in life and UF administration makes sure we stay on track.

Off-Campus Dining: One of the things I love about Gainesville, is the off campus dining. They have a variety of restaurants and they are so delicious! Food is top of the line and there is always variety.

Scholarships: My financial aid process went pretty smoothly and I had no hassles. The school I attended before UF was always giving me headaches with my financial aid. UF made it clear which documents I needed in order to get my financial aid in line before the deadline.

Health & Safety: I currently live off campus and I personally feel safer on campus than I do around my own neighborhood even though it is an 8 minute difference. I constantly see campus patrols and police officers circling the campus and they have "safety poles" spread through out campus which pretty much with a push of a button calls the cops. Even though there are several crimes on campus, it is normal.

Local Area: I enjoy living in a college town but if I didn't go to school here, I wouldn't live here.

Athletics: I was always a Gator fan and going to the school of my dreams made me and even bigger fan. It's hard to put in to words how big the Gators are on campus here. You will see the logo on every street, in every store, and on most outfits in gainesville! GO GATORS

Academics: Finance is a relatively challenging major at my school. I think I am becoming extremely prepared for a future career in Finance because of my plight at my university. I think the college of business is extensively supportive of their students. There are comstantly career fairs and info sessions focused on furthering your career and positioning yourself in better places for opportunities. The Dean of our college often reminds us that no one wants a degree that is vanilla! You want your experiences at the university to be valuable and be more than just a piece of paper. Having those words of encouragement motivate me to push through my workload and continue to be involved on campus.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
