Greek Life: Good if you plan on being greek. Our Fraternity system is extensive but the problems associated with greek life our very real here. The stereotypes are true here and there is a bit of animosity between non-greeks and greeks. There aren't major confrontations but there is a moderate amount of discrimination between certain tiers and the whole application process can be rough depending on the house.

Athletics: Our football team is nationally recognized and the new coach is really bringing the team back to the glory of the Tebow years. Campus life during football season is very lively with a lot of publicity and fun. Our gymnastics and basketball teams are top tier also, with both regularly winning championships. Intramural activities are abundant due to the variety of clubs and organizations that participate. The gyms and other rec facilities are well maintained and fully equipped with quality equipment.

Athletics: The athletics are highly supported at the University of Florida. There are many chances for people to play club sports or varsity sports if a person is skilled enough.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The school offers plenty of chances for research, jobs, and diverse activities. The all around experience of UF generally great, and the name UF on you degree gives a person an edge up in the work field.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: I have never seen anyone discriminated against because of race, religion, economic background, political beliefs or sexual orientation.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Every freshman is required to take an online drug, alcohol, sex and abuse safety course during their first semester. The school takes it all very seriously.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I love being at UF.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Everybody is super happy with the education at UF and they know that when they graduate they are going to have an impressive degree.

Campus Housing: I have loved living on campus. My roommate is great! I would advise people to look on the Facebook page to help find a roommate.

Greek Life: I'm not in greek life and to me it seems just like a complete waste of money. You do not have to be in greek life to go to parties or attend events.

Athletics: There is so much Gator spirit, especially on home football games. We have some of the best sports programs in the nation. Our gymnastics team has won the NCAA Championship the past 3 years in a row. Our softball team has won the NCAA World Series the past 2 years. Our baseball team won the conference tournament last year. And these are just to name a few. Our other sports are very well known for their achievements.

Overall Experience: My first semester has been great!

Health & Safety: Campus crime like robberies seems to be a big deal. We get a lot of alerts about it, but the suspects are rarely caught.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I feel like most of the professors are great! Some of them just seem too busy to care about students though and I don't necessarily like that.

Overall Experience: I don't know much about it yet, but it seems great.

Campus Housing: My housing experience has actually been excellent. I have found so many great friends in my hall. I also live in a triple and I thought it would be so crowded but it has not been as bad as I thought.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: I don't really have much of an opinion on Greek life.I do know that it is very expensive to get in.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: The gator football program is obviously amazing. I love going to all of the games. I also feel like there are so many sports to get involved in.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I have enjoyed my first semester at Florida so much. It has been so amazing meeting all of my best friends and really getting the college experience. I love all of my classes and all of the information I am learning. It really is great to be a Florida Gator!

Health & Safety: We have our own campus police department although they are somewhat infamous for not catching criminals. There is going to be some crime but there are systems in place to help make the students feel safe.

Overall Experience: As someone who has changed their major an OBSCENE amount of times, I can attest to the huge amount of variety at this school in terms of classes. I loved every professor I've had - so passionate and engaging. There are online classes You're going to have lecture hall classes but they aren't too bad, and they come with discussion sessions that really help. With a school as big as this one, you're going to find huge variety so research classes and teachers before registration.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: We're a huge school, and thus we have a massive alumni network. There are career fairs all the time where you can meet with recruiters and sometimes get hired right on the spot (happened to a friend). All of my friends who graduated were able to find jobs (yes even a geology major and a drama major).

Campus Housing: I lived in Hume Hall, which was a dorm with two beds, a sink and a closet to share, and a bathroom that is shared with the neighboring room (no communal bathrooms yesss). They have a crew that comes in and cleans once a week so the facilities are really clean. I really liked Hume. Some dorms to be noted:

Graham, Simpson, Trussler are all near tennis courts, a large field + concert area a mini grocery/convenience store, and a swimming pool.

Lakeside is far from campus but it's a nice area. You get your own room in an apartment with three other roommates and two bathrooms. There is also a kitchen and a living room area.

Beaty is a 14 foot tall apartment style building. Fire alarms = going down 11 flights of stairs. They're pretty cozy though and close to Chick-Fil-A.

Keys and Springs are similar to Lakeside but a bit larger, except usually reserved for upper class men.

Murphree area halls are older and closer to the nightlife but old and some without air conditioning.

Cypress and Infinity are new dorms. I don't know much about them except they look really nice.

The others are your run of the mill basic dorm + communal bathroom.

Greek Life: I'm not involved and no one has made a big deal about that. But if you're a guy and want to go to parties, your best bet is joining a frat.

We probably have one of the most energetic and passionate fan bases of all of college football. The other sports, however, sometimes get overlooked.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
