Transportation: Learn the Busses! The busses are free for students and take you anywhere you could possibly need to go. Driving is a hassle around campus and the city

Party Scene: College Town – There's plenty to do if you are looking to go out, get drunk, and party. Lots of clubs and bars, but nothing really exciting to do unless you want to party and are over 21

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Big State School in a Great Small Town – I enjoy Gainesville much more than UF itself.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: What else is there to say?

5 College Freshman

Majors: Major: Finance – so far so good. the business community is phenomenal.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: Pretty Diverse – with 50,000 students, it's hard not to be diverse. i've seen many different races and ethnicities.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: off campus housing is readily available for everyone. there are dozens of complexes surrounding the university with housing options.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Wouldn't Change a Thing – I know I made the right choice. The campus is amazing and the classes are top notch. I feel like a degree from UF will help me further my dreams. I love being a Gator!

5 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Excellent Security – I feel very safe on campus. There is a transportation system you can call at night so you don't walk home alone.

5 College Senior

Overall Experience: My overall experience has been wonderful. I am an out of state student, but love the college town and ffeel at home in gainesville now. Florida has a very strong pre-paid scholarship program which helps pay for college so that the students can focus on their studies. The athletic scene is very strong and the Gator Nation even stronger.

Transportation: There is sufficient free public transporatation as well as optional paid cabs and "gotcha rides." Student government also funds SNAP, Student Nightime Patrol that will pick up any student on campus and drop them somewhere else on campus. This is a safe way home when studying late or partying in midtown. parking is horrible.

5 College Senior

Health & Safety: We are notified within an hour if there is danger on or around campus and the area of danger via text and e-mail simultaneously.

Parking: There is very limited parking on and near campus. And the rules are so strict that unless you pay a lot of money for different decals you'll get a ticket.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Financial aid process was very easy, and Bright Futures/FL Prepaid covered all my tuition.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Get as much finical aide as you can while still in high school. There are a plethora more scholarships offered to high school students than college students. And the high school scholarships are normally easier to get. Also try to find local scholarships because those are the ones that you can get more than once most often. Also at UF most of the colleges have scholarships that they give out. So as soon as you enroll check into your colleges scholarship.

Greek Life: UF is largely centered around greek life. We have a plethora of frat and sorority houses on and directly off campus. Most of the students here are enrolled in greek life. I am not but am considering joining soon. I view it as a great way to make friends, find new things to do, learn about the area, and keep busy. Greeks play a large part in the spirit of our campus, they are always promoting certain events and sports, and they arent quite about it.

Campus Food: UF has a plethora of on campus dining options. There is the hub located right in the middle of campus which has starbucks, chik-fil-a, and quiznos. Then there is subway and jamba juice located right next to the hub. A chilis to go and moes southwest grill are located in the beautiful area by our clinic and one of our gyms. The dining halls are all very conviently located for students living in the dorms. All of the dining areas are normally very clean and adapted to mass amounts of people so the lines are never really terrible.

Off-Campus Dining: Delicious Gainesville – I absolutely adore Midtown Gainesville. It's full of life and wonderful choices for a poor college student; I'm a freshmen, so I haven't explored too much yet, but I love Leonardo's pizza, Firehouse subs, the Swamp, Mochi's, and Karma Kreme. Midtown is pretty close to campus and really close to a large majority of housing areas.

3 College Freshman

Weather: Rainy Days – Rainy days are the worst, but in the summer it's really hot too.

2 College Freshman

Transportation: Hardly Any Parking – There are not enough parking spaces and you need decals to park. The spaces are small and not close to many dorms. The buses are good, but usually get full.

Drug Safety: Drug Use in Gainesville – There's a lot of beer cans on the ground. You hear a lot about people smoking weed.

Scholarships: Wish I Were Rich – This is no fault of my school's I guess, but I ended up with a lot more student loans than I expected and will be paying them for a long time to come. I got the Florida Bright Future's Scholarship, so my tuition was free. And I also got some Pell Grants and federal govt. loans, which I have to pay back. But this still didn't cover all of my housing, food, computer, gas, and other typical expenses. My family could contribute about $0 for me, so I took out extra loans to cover it. I wish I were richer or had applied for more third-party scholarships. Generally, I think our country should be doing more to make college affordable without expecting most graduates to be tens of thousands of dollars in debt.

Overall Experience: Excellent Diverse Experience – UF is a fun and inviting atmosphere where practically every scene, from Greek to Geek, is present and accounted for. Everyone seems to have a good time, either with Gator athletics, the music scene, frat parties or indie parties. And the academics, especially engineering and sciences, are second to none. I'd say the only drawback to the large campus would be large, impersonal intro classes. But I loved the big campus for the diverse group of friends I made, and there was always something to do.

4 College Student

Local Area: There are multiple stores and restaurants you can access by foot or bus.

5 College Junior

Campus Quality: Gator Pride Is Everywhere – Gator pride is everywhere around campus and people are excited about being at the University of Florida. This extends even beyond our sports teams as the Gator Nation comes through in many different ways around campus.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
