Diversity: Pretty Diverse Overall – At the university of Florida, tolerance is a major quality it advocates. With much freedom given, there are almost different student organizations (For different races, interests, religions) being advertised during the day at Turlington Plaza and other plazas.

Local Area: Easy Access Areas – The atmosphere in gainesville is comfortable, yet at times dull. However, for a college student, living on Archer road off campus provides students with everything they need, from grocery stores, to walmarts, to fast food restaurants.

Overall Experience: Home Away from Home. At first I had a few rough patches here. But then I just realized I was feeling homesick. The people of Gainesville are one of the nicest people on earth. They do everything in their power to get you connected to your interests, and very quickly I found my place here.

Party Scene: Everything Great – The only reason why I don't enjoy the nightlife as much is because of all the studying I have to do. Other than that, Gainesville has a variety of places where you can enjoy whatever you like doing. Clubs, restaurants, and bars are all located relatively close to campus, and not having a car is the least of your worries because of the regular routes from buses.

Health & Safety: Small Town Charm, Small Town Crime. There is crime anywhere, but I never feel afraid of walking around the University of Florida campus. Police always seem to notify students of recent dangers and crimes as soon as it has occurred.

Local Area: Gainesville Is a Fun but Small City. I love Gainesville. The city is small and I'm now for the first time in my life considered a minority but the people are extremely nice and receptive to college students. I come from Miami which is a large predominantly hispanic city, but the people are rude and uninterested in others. Since Gainesville is a quintessential college town, almost everyone is concerned with bettering the community and helping others. There isn't much diversity within the city when not considering the college community but there are always enough cultural events on campus that are open to all the public. I always feel as if I have something to do on the weekends and the food choices for a vegetarian like myself are endless. During the fall semester, all of Gainesville becomes a unified front supporting the Florida gator football team and it is such an amazing experience. Everyone needs to experience a Gator football game at least once in their life.

Party Scene: Nigthlife Rocks ! Nightlife is for students of all ages. There is plenty for you to do. All clubs are 18 and older, and the music is on point! House parties are awesome as well. They are free, the music is great, and you don't have to worry about going home at two o'clock in the morning. You have so much to choose from when it come to Gainesville nightlife. Everyone should come visit!

Diversity: The student body is very diverse. I was actually cultural shock when I first arrived.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Fairly Safe – There are a great a mount of rapes around campus. However, I have never experienced anything like that or felt scared.

4 College Freshman

Administration: Speed Patrol – The on campus police are very strict on enforcing the speed limit because there are many students riding bikes and scooters, so it is vital that the speed limit is enforced because they cannot afford to have more students getting hit than already do. Which I have seen twice this year.

Academics: OFFICE HOURS – The academics at the University of Florida can be rather challenging. However, if you want to succeed you will. All of the teachers have certain office hours, and by attending them you can get plenty of extra help which is great!

3 College Freshman

Weather: The weather here is so moody, some days its raining, others is not, the weather changes here so often its advisable to always carry an umbrella

Campus Food: Amazing Food! I have had both a meal plan and not one and both aspects of the student life is relatively easy. The campus has a variety of choices to choose from other than the dinning halls and allows you ample amount of opportunities to try each. Personally I believe that the meal plan is too expensive for what you get out of it, but some students who eat a lot more than I enjoy it.

Academics: Criminology & English Major – The University of Florida allows you to have a versatile schedule, allowing you to pursue all area's of interest without detering you from your main objective. The staff is very helpful whenever students have questions and even go out of there was to contact students and make sure that they are doing well in classes and if they need any assistance. The workload is enough to understand every concept without overloading the students. I absolutely love both of my majors and I really enjoy the fact that I can do both.

Campus Quality: 2 football and 2 basketball championships while I was an undergrad. 'nuff said!

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: Dining Halls – They're pretty good. Lots of Variety and the menu changes regularly, but they are overpriced and tend to be greasy/unhealthy.

1 College Freshman

Campus Quality: Grad Students as Teachers – The graduate students teaching the lower level undergrad classes couldn't care less. They are not a service to the school, and the cost of tuition for those classes should not be the same as those taught by PhD professors.

4 College Freshman

Academics: Tipical College Town – University of Florida is located in Gainesville, FL, which is a tipical small, college town. However, there are plenty places to hang out with friends to do something interesting and fun.

3 College Sophomore

Administration: The campus police can get annoying but not terribly intruding

Athletics: Its called Titletown for a reason! Most of the sports are title contenders and the student body is really spirited!

Majors: Admission Is More Then Numbers – It is very hard to get into the school. You need a GPA at an unweigthed 3.8/4.0 but SAT and ACT scores vary. You need to be involved in a LOT of unique things. Also, many people lie on their applications so keep that in mind when youre applying.

Health & Safety: Youre Safe When Youre Smart – There are many campus police programs and the university is providing more transportation night options then ever. But still youre safety is up to you. If you walk alone at night.. well you shouldn't.

Transportation: Obviously no one wants to take the bus. However, cars aren't ideal and scooters are becoming more popular which leads to less spots

Greek Life: Greeks Make up About 30% – I find greek life to be great. There is a house for everyone. If you are interested in joining you can get in. However, activities and popularity depends on the specific house. They dominate campus but provides an unlimited opportunity for everything on campus.

Technology: While I would say that there are many computers across the campus, few are easily accessible. I am in my third semester and am aware there is a printing lab in the student union but upon many attempts I haven't found them.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
