Technology: While I would say that there are many computers across the campus, few are easily accessible. I am in my third semester and am aware there is a printing lab in the student union but upon many attempts I haven't found them.

Drug Safety: Alcohol is very very common. Weed is also fairly common. Other drugs are much less common and out in the open as the policies on them are much more strict.

Campus Quality: The facilities on campus are all generally average. Work is being done to renovate and update a large part of them at the moment.

Off-Campus Dining: Something for Everyone – The variety is very wide. Cost is decent. Generally close to student living and campus.

Weather: HOT HOT HOT – Walking around such a large campus in the summer heat can be a challenge. Also the rainstorms can have a fairly negative affect because of the large amount of walking that is necessary.

Campus Housing: Great Way to Meet People – Living on campus Freshman year is one of the best ways to meet people. The value is good. Living quarters are typical for a dorm.

Campus Food: Decent variety. Not the best service. Hours are decent.

Drug Safety: Not Dangerous, but Prevalent – Alcohol is obviously all over the place, and there's clearly lots of underage drinking, fake ids, etc. going on. There isn't a lot of dangerous drug use, from what I've seen, but people are pretty casual about alcohol and weed and stuff.

Scholarships: Slow Money – I receive a fair amount of financial aid, but I do have an expensive student loan. The money from financial aid comes slowly though. Its hard to wait for at the begin of each semester when you need books. Its an expensive school to attend so be sure you come here with some type of financial help.

Drug Safety: Proud Protection – Although drinking is the most popular activity at UF. But there are rarely any serious drug problems that the campus police can't handle.

Athletics: Wonderful Athletic Programs – The programs here are wonderful. The sports teams are very well taken care of here. Our football team is famous here at the University of Florida.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: Loads of Fun – There is always something to do in Gainesville on any given night of the week. Clubs are always fun and are available to students younger than 21. The best places are house parties, though, where there are always people you know and someone to look out for you.

Diversity: University of Florida is home to a diverse population of students and religions. There is always an opportunity to meet some new people. Turlington plaza is the place to be for information about different groups. Daily there are people from different religious groups, political groups, and ethnic groups that are ready and willing to teach people about their beliefs.

Off-Campus Dining: Dining Off-Campus – Off-campus, there are a plethora of dining opportunities. As soon as students decide what type of food they want, they can surely find something relatively close. There are also a variety of price ranges, from college-cheap, to date-night-expensive. University students can usually nab a discount, and most restaurants, such as my favorite Bento cafe, offer weekly deals.

Scholarships: Apply Apply Apply – Lots of scholarships but you just have to do the first step and apply! Unfortunately, if you cannot prove you need financial assistance, you will not be able to get any at all.

Greek Life: Greeks Run EVERYTHING – I would say the 10% or so of Greek students at UF run everything from the social scenes to everything student government related. Majority of greek chapters have houses on or right next to campus.

4 College Junior

Diversity: Diverse Group – Very diverse in terms of race and ethnicity. However, majority of students come from a high socioeconomic status background.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: People Seem Generally Happy – I haven't lived off campus or looked into living off campus but the people I know that do seem pretty happy

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: Excellent Research Options – There are many diverse research programs on campus. Undergraduate research is highly encouraged and supported. However, it can be challenging to actually get in a lab.

Campus Housing: It Really Depends on Your Neighbors – The physical buildings are nice, and those that are less nice are currently being renovated. The cost is ok, but they pressure you to decide whether or not to live on campus early in the year which is annoying because you may pay the down payment but then find an apartment later. The social atmosphere is good, but overall experience depends on your floor/room mates.

4 College Freshman

Campus Food: Very Good, but Overpriced – The dining hall food is very tasty. They use recognizable brands and fresh food a lot. There are lots of vegan/vegetarian options. The convenience stores are also good when you need some supplies. I could buy and cook the same food from the dining halls for at a much, much lower cost, though.

Greek Life: The Greek life here is what you make of it. Some people feel as if they must go greek to have popularity and some don't care. I am friends with people who are greek. They are cool to me and do not seem to be glorified (not by me that is). I think it just depends on the person and how often they are around greek people and attend their events to say whether it is a positive or negative atmosphere.

Majors: Environmental Science – I love my major, but I have had to work hard to create a schedule of classes that I truly enjoy. It is worth the extra time to look over the schedule of courses to find good classes and do the extra research on teachers. Otherwise, you can get stuck in busywork classes with boring teachers or in classes that are harder than they need to be. But after learning this I have found phenomenal classes with great professors.

Campus Food: Of course we have dinning halls at UF and they are good but not always want you want to eat. UF has a good amount of restaurants on campus like Burger King, Subways, Quiznos, Chick-Fil-A, Pollo Tropical, KFC and more. In addition to these we have what I call "corner stores" located throughout the campus. They are like your normal 7 eleven and Kangaroo stations. It is not hard to find something good to eat on campus

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
