Campus Housing: I live in an economy triple. It is a room made for 2 people, and they stuck my initial roommate and I with an extra person. It ended up being fine because we all get along great, but it is extremely small. I live in Broward. Broward and Jennings are the most social dorms and are right next to classes. Rawlings is pretty social too. Murphree and Springs on the other hand are extremely far, and you have to take a bus or walk 20 minutes to get to class.

Overall Experience: TA's are awesome. They genuinely care about their students. Professors, on the other hand, often seem busy with their work.

Local Area: Gainesville is great for a college student. But outside of campus, it is a desolate area and not a great place to live.

Administration: The administration is very strict when it comes to academics, but when it comes to social life, you are on your own.

Majors: There are countless internships available through the school you are in for your major. I am in the College of Journalism, and about 15 internships are posted weekly. It's very easy to apply and get involved right away.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: A lot of people attend events, especially football games. The whole campus comes together for football.

Off-Campus Dining: Most restaurants are in walking distance. If you don't care to walk, there is a great 2$ delivery program.

Guys & Girls: Lots of good-looking guys, but personally I don't care for most of them. I'm a straight girl, but the girls at our school are all beautiful, and there are many different types of girls (and guys!) who would appeal to all sorts of people.

Diversity: VERY diverse campus. We have students from virtually every ethnic, cultural, and religious background you can imagine. Additionally, we have students from a wide variety of family structures - not everyone here grew up in a "mom and dad, 2 kids, and a dog" type of situation.

Greek Life: We have a strong Greek system, and most of the Greeks that I know are very nice and accepting of both Greeks and non-Greeks. However, the system as a whole likes to portray itself as being somewhat "above" the non-Greek population. It's a minority, technically - only about 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 students are Greek - but a very, very loud and proud one. You can have an excellent social life and strong involvement whether you're Greek or you're not.

Scholarships: I ended up getting enough scholarship funding to cover literally EVERYTHING. The state of Florida gives out very generous scholarships to its top students.

Off-Campus Dining: Decent variety, mostly local chain restaurants in Midtown (right across the street from the school). There's some really good places throughout Gainesville, but most of it is difficult to access without a car.

Scholarships: UF offers you loans and you can accept of deny them online, very easy

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Football games are a big part of student life at UF

Campus Housing: ON campus housing is pretty good. It's clean and its a great way to make friends.

4 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Both guys and girls got into UF because they are smart, so there is much studying and homeworking being done. However, many students are also there to have fun, and many participate in parties. There is a good balance between social and work life.

Greek Life: There is a large Greek life at my university, I recommend at least guys to join.

Health & Safety: There were a few incidents of sexual assault in the beginning of the year. While they did not catch the offender, the school did elevate its safety measures.

Off-Campus Housing: The only problem there is with off campus housing is year long leases because most students leave in the summer.

Off-Campus Dining: The off campus dining is varied, convenient, and cost efficient.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
