Weather: Sunshine State – The seasons in Florida are hot and hotter. Always stay hydrated, especially at the football games. You'll probably have a heat stroke a few times while at UF.

Overall Experience: Best for Specific Interests – There's nothing like Gator pride, but unless you want to be a part of the Greek system, you're better off elsewhere. The Greek system at UF controls everything, and if you're not a part of it, you'll be left out in the cold.

Off-Campus Dining: So many selections – Want to try something different for lunch or dinner? Just walk across University Ave to the strip of eateries and trust me, you will have a hard time deciding where to go.

Campus Food: Fast Food Choices – I like the fast food options they have here. If I need some caffeine, Starbucks is the place. Chick-fil-A and Burger King are a favorite among some students, and on super hot days I love to purchase smoothies from either Freshens or Jamba Juice. Just be mindful of how much you spend on campus, because the prices are a little high.

Campus Food: The dining halls have their days in which the food is great, and then bland. I found the menus to be repetitive every other week, and the choices are pretty much the same. Meal plans are great to purchase freshman year and ONLY freshman year.

Campus Housing: Dorm Life – My freshman year wasn't all that exciting, especially with dorm life. I lived in Springs for Summer B, and Rawlings for Fall. Rawlings sits right behind a bus stop, so even though it was convenient for me to travel from A to B, it as a little noisy from inside my room. Its also next to Broward Hall and the dining facility, so you won't have any trouble walking there. Activities always conflicted with my schedule (unless food was involved), so I didn't participate a lot. For my sophomore year I will be living in Fletcher Hall in the Murphree Area, where the rooms are a bit more spacious. Also its close to the Student Rec Center where I can go to the gym in the morning before class.

Local Area: Not the Best. There is a lot to do in Gainesville in the form of clubs, bars and restaurants, but after awhile it can get repetitive and boring. That's why it is so important to get involved in organizations and make friends. School is what you make of it.

Diversity: The UF campus is extremely diverse. Of course there will always be a majority of white people, but on this campus, the majority is not by much. Whatever your nationality or ethnicity is, chances are there is an organization for it. There has never been any really blaring problems with racism or discrimination on this campus for at least the past 4 years. The campus is well integrated and everyone pretty much lives in harmony.

Party Scene: There are a lot of 18 year an older clubs, which means that most students are capable of going out. The only obvious thing is that only people 21 years and older are allowed to drink. There are various clubs and bars in downtown Gainesville, thus, everyone should be able to find the club or bar that is most suitable for them. There are two modes of transportation, the bus or your own car. Parking is never a problem downtown because there is a parking garage that never gets full, and UF also offers bus transportation all the way until the time the clubs close.

Local Area: University of Florida is a college town unlike any other. There are plenty of things to do for all ages.

Transportation: The best way to get to campus and around campus are the buses. There are several routes and they come very frequently. There are also buses that run late at night that go from downtown to campus.

Campus Housing: I lived in a dorm my freshman year. A late application triple, to be specific. The dorm environment was very friendly, and there was a great community feel on our floor. I definitely recommend a dorm for first year students. It's a great way to ensure involvement on campus. However, it does lack in terms of privacy and can be a bit unfair as far as price-to-quality ratio goes.

Majors: I am very happy with the Chemical Engineering program at UF. We have very apt professors and numerous opportunities to explore in our field. Chemical Engineering is extremely broad. I plan to specialize in the medicinal area of chemical engineering.

5 College Sophomore

Weather: Gainesville has a very nice atmosphere. The weather is especially nice during Fall semester. Always a good day to be outside. The need to bundle up increases towards the end of the fall semester, but it's a pleasant change from the regular Florida heat.

Majors: I do plan to have an internship in order to gain experience in my field. It is very strongly recommended that engineering majors attain an internship before graduating. I am slightly concerned about finding an internship, but I plan to apply to several in order to increase my chance of acceptance.

Greek Life: UF is very diverse, and I don't believe that Greek life is at all a prevalent part of the college experience.

Majors: UF has a very good Chemical Engineering program. The advisers are very helpful and willing to work with students to achieve optimal performance. The AiChe community is very close knit, and provides many opportunities for its members to explore the reality of engineering, through plant tours, company showcases, and Chem-E Day, during which prospective Chemical Engineers meet with several chemical companies and discuss internship and career opportunities.

Scholarships: Great Service – Everything is made a smooth process and is well organized. The financial aid here isn't the best but it's enough and pretty fair.

2 College Sophomore

Parking: Not Too Great – It is very difficult to find a parking spot on campus. Most of the time your car will be in a parking garage. The parking permits are pretty expensive especially since you'll rarely be able to find spots.

Weather: Weather is sunny most days! Some rainy days like any other place in Florida!!!

5 College Freshman

Local Area: Great Place for Students – Gainesville has a variety of restaurants, from upscale to quick-bite to eat restaurants. Movie theathers, bowling, and lots of other amenities. You can never get bored! There is also a lot of price where to shop (for those that like to go shopping). It is a great place for college students!

4 College Freshman

Transportation: Bicycles Are Popular! Gainesville is a great town. A lot of the students there ride bicycles to get around. In the summer time, is the quickest way to get from one end of the campus to the other. Buses are available as well.

4 College Junior

Campus Quality: The Campus in Itself – Students at University of Florida really do have it good. We're situated right next to one of the top hospitals in the country, have food that can be delivered to your dorm room at any hour of the night, and are surrounded by school spirit wherever you go.

Guys & Girls: Expect What You See – Yes, there are a lot of attractive guys at the University of Florida, and most of them frequently go jogging shirtless. When I was a freshman, this was the greatest thing I'd ever seen. However, for every attractive guy, you can expect an ego the size of his muscles, and probably quite a few scandals with the opposite sex.

Overall Experience: Lots of Great Opportunities – At the University of Florida there are so many groups to get involved in. There isn't a reason to be bored in your dorm. Even if you don't want to be a part of the Engineering groups and Religious groups (even thought there are some awesome ones to choose from) You can always find an activity sponsored by the your dorm or another place on campus. There is just great people and great times to be found at UF.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
