Health & Safety: Safety Around Campus – Safety around campus is really important to the University of Florida and the Gainesville Police Department. If there is an emergency, crime, or suspicious activity everyone will receive a notification via e-mail. I also have these notifications via text message as well. The University of Florida offers free escort service for students who live in campus. The services are from 6 PM - 3 AM and encourages students to not walk alone at night. I feel really safe on campus, I never had any problems.

Parking: It's not essential to have a car on campus. Gainesville has a great transportation system. All the students from the University of Florida travel for free on the bus at any time. There is a Decal cost of $60 per semester. Finding a parking spot can be hard depending on the time. Around 9 AM it is the hardest. Without the decal you will have to pay for parking. It costs about $1 for 1 hour, $3 for 3 hours and $5 for all day. Your car may be towed or fined if you park in a decal zone without the decal.

Weather: Very hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Rains in the afternoons.

Local Area: Gainesville Is Very Laid Back. Gainesville is geared to the college student and the elderly.

Academics: I Love Everything About It! So far the entire History staff has been awesome as well as the students.

Academics: The History Program Is Beyond Reproach. The instructors and availability of classes in my area of interest are awesome.

Administration: Responsible and Understand School – The university of florida has a strict policy in several areas. However, I feel that they are necessary and essential for the school to succeed and remain prestigious.

Campus Food: Dining Falls Not Halls – The dining halls on campus are atrocious. I myself don't have a meal plan but I have been in there a few time. They serve the same food everyday from what others have told me, which can get very boring. Also the fact that I am a muslim student on campus I eat food that is certified Halal only thus I cant eat any of the foods that contain meat only vegetarian. to However if you are studying for an exam it is probably the best place to go for a quick meal than rather go all the way home to heat something up.

Parking: Parking is horrendous at UF. It is a fight to find parking, and you can only park in a small part of campus. UF Parking patrol is also very strict with their parking enforcement. If you are over the line in a parking spot even by a tiny bit, you receive a 40 dollar parking ticket, no questions asked.

Weather: Hot Hot Hot – UF is in the middle of Florida, so there is no seabreeze at all. Most of the year, the weather is at least 75 to 80 degrees with it reaching up to 95-100 in the summer months. Prepare on wearing light clothing if you plan on walking from class to class!

Academics: Animal Science (CALS Major) – I am an ambassador for the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. I know from personal experience that our College is excellent with all of their undergraduates in each program. They offer superior advising services, a lot of hands on internship opportunities and research options. As an animal science student, one can even get a paid part-time job at facilities such as the Dairy or Beef Unit, the Equine Center, UF Meats Lab, or the Swine facility.

Academics: Amazing Professors – The first couple of years are the worst. Everyone has to go through their gen-ed classes with 200+ students in every class. Most of these classes tend to be rather difficult, but not impossible if you put in the work. After you get through these 2 years, classes get much better. The sizes of the classes shrink, and the professors are really there to help their students. They make sure to have plenty of office hours for students that need help.

Campus Housing: Dorm Life – Living in a dorm room is what one would typically expect. It is by no means luxurious, and you are in very tight quarters but that's with any college you go to. The dorm rooms at UF do not allow you to bring a lot of your personal belongings with you to college, but there's enough room for the essentials. Living in a dorm is a great way to meet fellow students and make great first friends if you don't know a lot of people going in. The community style bathrooms suck, but you learn to get used to it. There are great laundry facilities and convenience stores in most residence areas. After the first one or two years at UF, I would highly recommend moving into an apartment off campus as most on-campus residents are freshmen.

Off-Campus Housing: Great Locations! The locations and proximity to the campus and bus stops are great. The only drawbacks are the expenses, independence, and lack of involvement on campus. Off campus living can get pricey, but if you're smart, it's manageable. The independence and alone-ness can be frightening too. And it's really hard to stay involved at UF if you're not in the middle of things like you would be on-campus. But overall, it's still a really great experience. Plus, off-campus allows pets!!

5 College Junior

Majors: Food Science – My major is Food Science and I enjoy it very much. The advisors are very helpful. They inform me of internships, jobs, etc. They really want to see you succeed.

Drug Safety: It Is Called a "Party School" for a Reason – The drug scene at the University of Florida is extremely prevalent, especially among a select group of individuals. Also, surprisingly, UF has a relatively lenient policy enforcement, such as its amnesty program for alcohol abuse.

Guys & Girls: Stuck up – People who go to UF do tend to be hot but it comes with this attitude that everyone brings that just makes them think they are better then everyone else

Local Area: College Town – If you are looking for a big city, Gaineville is not it!! However, if you are just looking for a college town where almost everything is geared towards students and the university then it is a very nice place to live with everything pretty close by and a whole lot of things that stay open late for students!

Diversity: There are many student organizations that promote diversity on campus such as VISA, French club, Greek club, etc.

4 College Senior

Majors: Psychology Has No Admissions Criteria – you do not have to go through any type of admissions process to get into the psychology program. as long as you get into uf, you can major in psychology.

3 College Senior

Majors: Psychology as a Major – its great because it is a field that i am interested in. i would say that you would definitely need to go to graduate school after majoring in psychology though in order to get a well-paying job.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: It's a great school and environment to be a part of

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: Some dorms have AC and Elevators; some do not. Enough said?

3 College Junior

Campus Food: Some days are A; some are C. They have to change their bacon vendor soon. It is disgusting

4 College Junior

Party Scene: Good clubbing and campus activities abound. Have to walk a ways to some clubs downtown

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
