Off-Campus Housing: The closer you live to campus, the more expensive it is going to be. This is especially true if you live near Midtown and in an apartment complex (near Midtown). Most places are very nice. There are endless options.

Health & Safety: The UFPD text alert system keeps us updating on anything that goes on in the area. Fortunately, except for that string of attacks in August 2014, there haven't been any issues. The student population is very vocal and active in fighting sexual assault. UFPD and the administration work very hard to provide transportation options and safety measure to ensure the safety of the students.

Party Scene: I personally don't party all that much. The University of Florida has the reputation of being a "party school", but if you aren't into the party scene, it's very easy to avoid. There are plenty of people who aren't interested in partying all the time.

Local Area: There are always a wide variety of cultural things going on. Cultural organizations are always hosting events, the city of Gainesville puts on a lot of activities, the Phillips Center consistently has performances, and the Harn Museum of Art is a gorgeous place to meander around. The university has endless activities for students to participate in, especially in the recreation centers. The city of Gainesville has a lot to offer anyone and everyone! Gainesville itself may seem a little "in the middle of nowhere", but it has everything you need and want, and is a great place to spend your undergrad years.

Scholarships: There's simply not that much money to give out to students. I personally have Florida Pre-paid, so that takes care of a lot of my worries, but you have to look for extra money on your own if you're not really in "need".

Off-Campus Dining: There are plenty of options both right off of campus and around the Gainesville area. Go explore! There is a great mix of chain restaurants and local places. All of them delicious.

Majors: The University of Florida is enormous, with thousands of students enrolled in the Warrington College of Business Administration. All of these students must take these 7 required courses before continuing on with their specific major. These classes, and most classes, are taught by a professor, not just a graduate student. In order to cater to these thousands of students, most of the classes required are going to be online lectures. Basically 50% of your education is going to be behind a computer screen. However, there are countless opportunities to get involved in the business school and to meet other business students.

Health & Safety: The UFPD works hard to keep the campus safe. However, many sexual attacks have surged.

Diversity: The majority is clearly white. Although there are many Hispanics and blacks, Gainesville is predominantly white.

Scholarships: It is extremely tough to receive grants or aid from the school itself. Your only option is FAFSA and outside scholarships.

Athletics: Football season is the best time of the year: campus gets populated, great parties, and tons of fun all day.

Campus Food: The dining halls get old quickly. Other fast-food choices aren't that bad.

Majors: My major program is great. It is very challenging and time-consuming but will surely be worth the pain.

Off-Campus Dining: Delicious off-campus dining spots are extremely convenient and close to campus.

Majors: My major of interest is film and there is not a very good film program at UF and there is barely any film culture in the town.

Off-Campus Dining: It's pretty good for how small this town is.

Party Scene: The party scene is so convenient and accessible to students! Midtown is a great spot right across from campus that has a diverse selection of bars for of age and underage students.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I've never lived on campus but I hear it is great for the experience. Some dorms are nicer and newer than others but overall it is great to be apart of the campus and its history.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: There is always a party going on somewhere you just have to have the guts to show up sometimes alone and meet new people.

Local Area: Without the students the city would be almost empty, in the summer there is a noticeable change as students leave campus.

Administration: The administration is very reasonable and okay with normal things like friends coming over but not with underaged drinking and such.

Health & Safety: There have been a few issues with girls getting attacked on the campus which has scared everyone to the point where girls don't want to walk home alone anymore.

Off-Campus Housing: If you can find a cheap price its totally worth taking the bus to class everyday.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
