Administration: Generally students get away with a lot. Cops are always around on the weekend during tailgating, but I rarely hear of anyone getting in trouble for underage drinking.

4 College Senior

Party Scene: 18+ can get in pretty much anywhere. There is a variety of options as far as bars and clubs go, each with a different atmosphere. Drink specials on certain nights of the week can be extremely cheap.

Technology: The only 24/7 computer lab is great--when it isn't busy. When you can get a computer, they are normally fairly quick. Printing is sometimes a problem--printers being offline, when the lab is too busy and they get backed up--so it would be nice if more printers were offered.

Campus Quality: Academic progress is always accelerating and the atmosphere is awesome. There is so much gator love and everyone always seems to be in love with the campus because its beautiful. There is numerous research opportunities and the facilities especially the athletic ones are superb.

Parking: Its expensive to have a decal and parking during the day as an undergraduate you have to park so far away from everything. the commuter lot isn't really close to anything but on the bright side there are numerous buses that can take you there. It's hit and miss at night on where you can find to park and the parking lots are small so they don't exactly have enough spaces for everyone who needs/wants to park in that lot which can be sketchy at night.

Majors: It was not really hard getting into engineering. There were no special and complicated exams. I just needed to have high test scores and then just declare my major.

Diversity: I see many international students from a variety of ethnicity, religion, and culture. There are also many cross-cultural programs held almost every week in a part of the school, such as Chinese special day cerebration, Indian dances, Middle Eastern lectures, etc.One can learn a lot in UF,

Campus Food: It depends on the type of plan you buy and whether or not you stay on campus. If you stay on campus, you should buy a meal plan and get access to the numerous eateries. There is a variety of halls; Gator dining and Broward hall are like all-in-one kind of place where you get buffet style food from many restaurants. But over time, the food can get a bit boring after eating a lot. Nonetheless, there are other fast food chain restaurants such as Papa John's, Burger King, Panda Express, and many others. The costs are average.

Transportation: Many bus routes throughout the entire city of Gainesville make traveling a pleasure and easy to access. The buses as almost always on time. In addition, for UF students the buses are free with the use of the Gator ID.

Parking: It just really sucks that anyone that lives off campus can only get a park and ride decal, which doesnt really help at all.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: The University of Florida is generally safe, and buses are widely available.

4 College Sophomore

Party Scene: The clubs are horrible, but the 21+ bars are a fun atmosphere. Fraternity parties are usually a good time depending on where you go.

Majors: There is no special application process for entering the Wildlife Ecology and Conservation department. It is deciding what you want to specialize in within the department that can be challenging. There are four focus areas from which to choose: Human Dimensions, Management, Quantitative Science, and Ecology (as well as a combined Master's in Urban and Regional Planning). There are many students that know precisely what they want to do, but I am not one of those. I have changed my mind three times, and there were always conversations to be had with advisers, curriculum plans to fill out, and mini explanations to write about why I wanted to do what I wanted to do. The paperwork process is not difficult; deciding what you're interested in more than anything else is the hard part. My advice is to take advantage of the diverse opportunities and follow your heart.

Technology: I have never had any problems with finding an on campus computer or having to print. We even get free printing!

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: I always feel safe on campus. The UFPD is never far away and I can always have SNAP come pick me up and take me where I need to go if I don't feel safe.

4 College Junior

Party Scene: There is a lot to do as long as you are willing to look. There is something for everyone. There is always a party going on somewhere or some kind of club activity to get involved in. There are fun cheap things to do like bowling or Gator Nights at the Reitz!

Majors: My specific major offers many venues that catered to my needs. Through the biology major, I was able to find many research opportunities and volunteering opportunities. The advisers in my program are great, they have provided me with much of information regarding how to apply to medical school and how to be a more competitive applicant. The classes so far have been great. Since I enjoy science very much, I enjoyed these classes. The only problem is that the beginning classes are what we call "weed out" classes and they are designed to be very difficult to discourage people who are not serious about the program to drop it. Otherwise, great program!

Off-Campus Dining: Gainesville has good off-campus dining but unfortunately it lacks in variety. There are many small places that are found only in Gainesville, such as the Flying Biscuit, a local breakfast place that's to die for! Most prices are within a students budget range, as it is a college town.

Local Area: Gainesville, in simple terms, is a college town. The night life is great, with plenty of activities for night life and for just a great weekend. Gainesville is surrounded by several springs, so making a weekend trip with your friends is a great experience. Mid-town is right across the street from campus with great restaurants, bars and clubs. Downtown offers many clubs as well and the buses that run until 3 am will take you anywhere in town you need to go. There is a local lake for the students of UF. Any student can go kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing and sailing for free. Great atmosphere!

3 College Sophomore

Weather: It rains heftily during the fall semester and during winter. The combination of cold and wet do not mix. But towards the end of winter and in the spring, the weather is absolutely stunning! Perfect weather to study outside in the plazas and parks.

3 Recent Alumnus

Health & Safety: There are some crimes that occur on campus such as muggings and vandalizing but as long as you travel with a friend at night at lock your doors you will most likely be fine. The university has emergency phones all along campus and they provide texts to students in case a crime has been committed telling them what the person looked like and where it occurred.

3 Recent Alumnus

Drug Safety: Every college campus is going to have students that do drugs, however it all depends on who you hang out with. Students aren't using drugs openly on campus or in public facilities such as restaurants and bars, it would most likely take place at a private party.

3 College Junior

Majors: The classes are good, but the advising in the School of Journalism and Communication are even worse than the other colleges.

Weather: IT RAINS ALL OF THE TIME! and for someone who is on campus it sucks because I get soaked walking/riding to class.

3 College Junior

Party Scene: Its pretty good if you are into getting wasted and/or being harrassed by drunk guys that think they are hot stuff.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
