Majors: As an accounting major, I am very happy with the program. It is very challenging but it is one of the top 15 accounting programs in the country. All of the big 4 firms as well as many middle market and local firms recruit from UF. There is I believe around a 95% job placement rate in the college and if you belong to the honors society (Beta Alpha Psi) there's a 100% job placement rate. For me personally, I really want to work with one of the big four and hopefully become a partner one day.

Majors: Getting in to the accounting major wasn't difficult. I actually applied to UF as a potential engineering major and I was accepted into engineering. However, by the time Preview (orientation) came along, I decided to do accounting. With the help of my Preview adviser, I signed up for the right classes and let the accounting college know that I wanted to do accounting and they accepted me within a couple weeks.

Athletics: If you're a sports fan, then the University of Florida is obviously a place you'll enjoy. If not there's no need to worry, I'm not like the many people who applied because they have good sports. They also have lot's of academic opportunities and an excellent nightlife and social events.

Off-Campus Dining: There are lots of excellent local restaurants around town. It's helpful to be friends with someone who lives in town and know lot's of the landmarks and local places. Don't just go to the chain places (like Chipolte compared to the local restaurant Burrito Bros.) that everyone goes to.

Off-Campus Housing: There's nothing wrong with the physical apartments, but there are problems with the landlords and companies that own apartment complexes. For the apartment I'm currently at they never gave me a copy of my lease or any move in information. I had to call them several times and most of the calls went to an answering service and when I asked to be put through to the office they would only tell me they'd send a message to them, when I insisted to be put through personally I was told that no one was currently at the office (they told me this at 3 pm on a Thursday afternoon, so it was either a flat out lie because it was during business hours or they have the worse staffed business ever). I also had a difficult time during move in because the staff tried to get me to sign a contract saying I had read and understood the rule book (which is also part of the lease) without reading it, saying I wasn't allowed to get it until I signed (I refused to sign it, so they gave me the rule book). It seems like a lot of the people in the apartment business try to take advantage of the fact that we are still students. My advice is to hold your ground and know some Florida laws (for example, they can't withhold your security deposit unless they have informed you by written notice 30 days prior and they cannot keep it in an interest bearing account, if they do you're entitled to the security deposit and the interest they earn on it).

Drug Safety: You don't see a lot of drug usage here at UF, most people do that in their own trustworthy and small segments. Alcohol is the more dominant substance, especially around game days. Most college students here will drink while underage in the clubs and bars because they will get away with it.

Transportation: Transportation here on campus is great! The transportation on campus is supplemented by the Gainesville Regional Transit Services so its free to ride campus buses, and free to ride the city buses with your college ID. The buses typically run until 1AM or 2AM and then there are the later gator buses that run on the weekends after those hours. If you're stranded on campus and need to get back to your dorm they have a late night service that you can call and have them pick u up.

Guys & Girls: There are a lot of beautiful people here that WILL catch your attention. You find mostly Caucasians in their sundresses and flip flops during the warmer seasons and booths and tight jeans in the colder seasons. There are also a nice mix of beautiful women of other races as well which leaves us with a lot of options.

Campus Food: Campus dining is amazing. It may be a little pricy but it is worth it. The dining halls provide many different kinds of food and in unlimited amount. If you want something quick, then you can use flex bucks at the campus convenience store, Burger King, Subway, and other places.

Diversity: Diversity is everywhere in UF. You can find students from many countries and of various religious beliefs. There are organizations specifically for these minorities and it is a great way to integrate yourself into UF.

Weather: The summer is pretty brutal, but Fall through Spring are absolutely beautiful. Typically cool and sunny during the day, gets a little chillier at night. But as I mentioned, summer is pretty bad with the heat and humidity.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: We have a wide range of majors, and many online program options which fit a flexible schedule. The clubs are super involved and a great way to network. Greek life is huge, and there's always stuff going on. It's a huge campus and there's so much variety!

Athletics: Gator football is #2 in the nation this year. Enough said.

Campus Quality: Campus is beautiful. We have a newly renovated gym which is amazing. About 12 different libraries, so there's always a place to study. There are lots of hangout spots around campus and tons of dining options. Bars and restaurants right across from campus. Can't get much better than UF!

Academics: I'm in health science. I like the major and the electives it offers. The coursework load isn't too much.

Weather: Sometimes its really rainy and thats annoying when going to class. Its super hot in the summer, but in the spring and fall its really nice.

4 College Junior

Local Area: Lots of things to do in town, places to eat, clubs to go to.

2 College Junior

Parking: Parking is always quite difficult. Way too little parking spaces available. Can be a frustrating situation to find a parking spot.

4 College Junior

Drug Safety: The drug scene is very minimal. I have never encountered any, however, have heard a few words about it.

5 College Sophomore

Diversity: The teachers are wonderful and maintaing good grades are easy.

4 College Freshman

Weather: It rains a lot, so your walking through puddles of rain, a lot.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: expensive small dorms, broward has one of the best locations

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I've never been offered any of this stuff, but it's not hard to find.

4 College Freshman

Campus Food: Meal plan is no good unless your there for the social aspect, on campus food is pretty good though, chik fil a is crowded

4 College Freshman

Local Area: UF students make up a huge proportion of the population, so even the off campus stuff caters to us. A lot of really fun things to do, even if you don't drink. I've always felt safe.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
