4 College Freshman

Campus Food: It's pretty good overall, but the Broward Dining Hall is very disorganized most of the time.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There are a ton of places to go to. Mi Apa is my favorite place to go. It is cheap and very tasty. Other places I like to go is Peach Valley which is a breakfast place. There are many different places for you to go to. Almost any kind of cuisine you want they have

3 College Junior

Scholarships: The application process was difficult. It was also hard to get in touch with an advisor. I received some financial aid but not enough to cover all my needs.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: Some of the dorms are far away from the center of campus but the experience is great for incoming freshmen.

Health & Safety: There are several seminars throughout the semester explaining student safety, the Blue Light System, and drug and alcohol safety. There do seem to be quite a few stolen bikes around campus, such as broken locks and bikes stripped of there parts even when they're locked up, so it's important to register it with the campus police! Lastly, the police sent out emergency messages to students whenever a crime occurs with detailed information. Overall, UF seems like a pretty safe and secure learning environment.

Technology: There are many computers to choose from on campus, even one in the main student center where students get around 250 free prints. There is also a computer lab in the Architecture building that is open 24/7 with computers that serve multiple purposes such as touch screens. The network has definitely improved since a couple years ago. For instance, before whenever you wanted to access the computer you had to always log into the server, including on a smart phone which tended to be a hassle. Now, however, after following a couple of simple steps at the beginning of the semester you no longer have to log in every time you wish to access the internet.

Campus Quality: Gainesville in general is extremely student friendly. Food places are open extremely late for those late night cravings and places such as Mid-town and Down-town are popular off campus hang out spots. As far as on-campus goes, there are always fun activities to participate in. The main library, Library West, is open until late and there is even a Starbucks in there open 24/5. We have a big, and newly constructed, athletic center that has a ton of machines and an indoor track, basketball court, volleyball court, and activity rooms.

Weather: The weather is overall very nice in Gainesville. Some days will be very sunny and bright, and because students tend to walk to from class during these hot days it may be uncomfortable because of the heat. But we do get out chilly days and the days that it rains. When it rains, which isn't really all that often, it can also be annoying. All in all, the weather is usually very beautiful here.

Off-Campus Dining: Off-campus dining is pretty nice. There are so many places to choose from, and they have pretty good hours over the weekend.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: The buses are very convenient, and run every 5-10 minutes.

Transportation: Public transportation at UF is great. I live off campus and do not own a car, so I therefore have to rely on the buses. At first I was a little hesitant to use them, but I have no complaints. There are two bus routes pass by my apartment every 6 minutes and I personally have not had any issues with any of the buses. They are all very punctual. Also, there are so many different bus routes that navigating through Gainesville is not an issue at all. The buses are free for UF students. Also, there is a special bus called the Later Gator that trasports students back and forth from midtown to downtown, where the clubs are at.

Other than the buses, UF offers a service called S.N.A.P which drives students around campus night. This is done to aid the small amount of buses that run late at night and to increase student safety when traversing from extreme of campus to the other, not that safety is an issue.

Health & Safety: Overall, it is pretty good with the safety measures on campus, and for health with the student health center

4 College Sophomore

Majors: There are so many options of majors that you can choose'll be able to find the right one for you

4 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: The facilities at UF are really pretty good, such as the research labs, medical equip, rec centers, athletic facilities, etc.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: The facilities are top notch at UF. While some of the residence halls are a little bit older, the research labs, medical equip., and rec centers, plus others, are great

5 College Junior

Campus Food: Anything from fast food, health options, or home cooked dining halls. Declining Balance can be set up on your ID card and can even be used at some off campus places.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: There are tons of different types of off campus housing options in Gainesville. Anything you could think of from hole in the wall apartments to two story victorian houses. Easy to find a place to live but last minute choices may cost you an arm and a leg.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: I personally think the food in the area is great. Most of the time one can eat a good meal for less than $10, but there are a handful of pretentious restaurant owners that think their fast food quality cuisine deserves a Michelin Star.

2 College Junior

Administration: I give UF an average strictness score. Since we have been in the top 10 party schools for the past decade or so, folks tend to turn their head most of the time. I have known a few students that have been kicked off campus for not abiding by dorm policies. Academically, you must stay close to perfect.

3 College Junior

Scholarships: It sucks that because of how many students there are, funding runs out quickly! I suggest you stay on top of things and make sure you know what's going on with your financial aid, because the last thing you want is a financial hold on your record without even knowing about it.

3 College Junior

Party Scene: I'm mostly a house party kind of person. Since I'm only 20, I can't go to the bars, and the clubs are definitely not my scene because of the touchy-feely drunk frat boys who attend. The house parties are always a blast, that's for sure!

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There are the usual! Chick-Fil-A, Bahama Breeze. The people who work there are mostly college students, too, so you get to know who's who a lot quicker. It's nice!

5 Recent Alumnus

Majors: At UF, I'm in the college of Health and Human Performance with a major in applied physiology and kinesiology. WE are one of the top programs for exercise science in the nation with leading faculties in their area of focus. I really enjoy what I'm learning and it even has a mandatory internship.

3 Recent Alumnus

Drug Safety: The drug scene is more around in the city of Gainesville. More drinking occurs with students rather than drugs.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: There seems to be quite a good amount of diversity as far as ethnicity/race, sexual orientation, political, and religious beliefs are concerned. However, there is a small percentage of international and out of state students who seem to be accepted.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
