Overall Experience: Best Place to Be – The University of Florida is the perfect place for a person seeking a first class education while meeting people from all over the world who desire the same things you do! UF presents the unique oppurtunity of experiencing a family connection in a school with such a large number of people. The professors are great! They are clear about what they expect and if you stay focused there is no way to fail. I'm definitely enjoying my time here to the fullest and looking forward to the many experiences that are still to come!

Campus Housing: The dorms at the University of Florida are rather nice consisting of reasonably sized rooms, large bathrooms, study areas, and a kitchen for each floor, but the prices are a bit ridiculous. Once you divide the total rent by 4 for the months in a semester we're nearly paying $600 or more for a place where we have to share everything! The prices should definitely reflect that aspect, but of course living on campus will always be convenient above all things.

Academics: Building Construction – The first two years before upper division are pretty easy, but then upper division is more difficult. We have our own career fair, which is a huge help in finding internships and careers. The BCN professors are mostly good professors, but I can't say the same for other departments.

Academics: Professors Are O.K. Most professors at any college do a fairly poor job of actually teaching anything important and relevant to real life, so don't expect it to be any different here.

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Drinking Is Most Popular – There are many people who use drugs, but there are more who don't and there is not really any pressure to use drugs.

4 College Junior

Majors: Great Teachers – the teachers here just want you to learn and be successful, they make themselves available at any time and are always willing to assist you. Its a great field and alot of opportunities to advance.

Majors: Department of Corrections – As a Criminology major I completed an internship for the probation and parole department. In order to receive credit I had to complete at least 160 hours by the end of the semester and was on a pass/ fail basis. My responsibilities were typing up pre-trial intervention contracts for first time offenders, answering and making phone calls to offenders, witnesses, victims, and attorneys' offices. I also did scanning, filing, and typed case notes for the officer I was working under. I also sat in on court proceedings and observed when the offenders come into the office. I also observed how drug testing was being conducted and witnessed how an arrest can happen if the offenders were to be violated.

Majors: Not to Bad – I did not encounter any problems when applying. There is not particular process you go to just pick a major of interest and once you get there you will select classes based on the tracking requirements for that major, however freshmen can not officially declare a major until sophomore year so if you decide that tracking for what you selected does not suit yo u well then you can change it.

4 College Junior

Majors: Criminology Is Great – I am very happy with my field beacuse the classes are relevant to real life issues that are going on in society and the classes always capture my attention. If you don't want to be bored then try criminology. The material is not difficult and you gain alot of insight to many thoughts, ideas, and theories that are tested and thrive within the field. My career goals are to continue my education and obtain a master degree in a related field and mt only concern is about me not being to keen on my exact callling as of now. I am still exploring my career options.

Campus Quality: Always Something to Do – You could live on campus and always have something to do, because it's so big. There are a lot of clubs to get involved with, there's art, museums, and the bus transportation is very good. The gyms are awesome and there are group fitness classes. The libraries are open late and there are a lot of places to eat out.

Parking: Impossible to Park – parking on campus; well there is none. If you have never taken a bus you better get used to it because it becomes your best friend. Commuters should get to campus at least 30 minutes to an hour if you want to get a tiny space in the commuter's lot, but highly doubt it will be space there so take my advice and take advantage of public transportation; besides it is free and saves you gas money and you can count another day to buy the college favorite: Ramen Noodles.

Athletics: Sports Are Exciting on Campus – The majority of sports here at UF get the students, alumni, and faculty excited. Football and basketball do have the most supporters, although each sporting event is fun to watch. Many have active crowd participation and all of the sports teams at UF are high ranking.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Sometimes Overpriced but Worth It – Most of the dorms are pretty nice and it is very convenient to just be able to walk everywhere you need to go. It depends on where on campus your dorm is. Also the price can sometimes be higher than you'd think it should be.

2 College Sophomore

Parking: Few Spots – Parking around campus can be a real pain in the butt. This is especially so on football game days since there are so many people around.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: Very Safe – I always feel safe around campus. Its very well lit at night with police patroling at night. If you ever do feel unsafe there are safety lights around campus with buttons that contact the police and they will be there quickly to walk you home or inspect something. If there is anything going on you will get a text from the police with updates on the situation. It's always a good idea to lock your doors because laptop robbery is common on any college campus.

Diversity: One of the great things about UF is the diverse population of student from all over the world. Many international students come here.

2 College Junior

Administration: Take Integrity Seriously – Do not try to cheat or do anything against the honor code or you will get in trouble. Also smoking is not allowed on campus and underage drinking is taken seriously.

Guys & Girls: Greek Life Is Great – A great way to meet girls, joining a fraternity and having social events with sororities is a lot of fun. The girls are hot (for the most part) and are almost always just out to have a good time. I've made some great friends here, and met some not so great people, but I would say, as a whole, the university has pretty good guys and gals.

3 College Junior

Campus Food: Not Bad, but Nothing Special – The dining halls serve the same things every day and it gets pretty repetitive. The food court in the Reitz Union as strange hours and I never now when each restaurant is going to be open. I was only on a meal plan for a few months freshman year and then switched to fraternity meal plan.

Greek Life: Non-Greek Is the Way to Go – Greek life is HUGE at the University of Florida. There are many sororities and fraternities to join and it seems to be the primary focus at the beginning of each semester when rush begins. Many students join Greek life primarily for the social aspect. Greeks tend to stick together and there is definitely an atmosphere of superiority. What's interesting is that out of the school's main two government parties, you can basically label them as "Greek" and "Non-Greek" and guess who always wins? There have also been cases of hazing at our school and we only know of the ones that have been exposed.

Transportation: Public transportation at UF is a nice commodity to our school. The buses come by fairly often, about every 20 minutes or so at each stop. In addition to the option of on-campus transportation, some of the buses also take you off campus, making it convenient for those who do not have a car. The best part is that it is all free; all you have to do is show your school ID. We also have SNAP vans that you may call if you need on-campus transportation from 6 pm- 3 am everyday.

Off-Campus Housing: Choose Off Campus – Living off campus is much cheaper than living on campus. It's also much better because you are not living under annoying school regulations. Live with roommates and you will definitely cut the costs significantly. Some places are expensive but you just have to do your research. Gainesville is pretty small so wherever you go you will be pretty close to campus and they have an awesome bus system (you will never park at UF, it's impossible). Don't settle for the prices and fees that landlords give you, you have the upper hand.

4 College Senior

Majors: Psychology Give You Space to Explore – UF has a strong psychology program. Most of the professors really care about the students and about the work that they do. Psychology classes are some of the most interesting classes you can take, but then again I am a psychology major! If I could do it all over again I would, though I wish I would have had a better idea about what my career goals were from the beginning. The good thing about the psychology program is that you can do a lot of things with it so you are not married to any one thing. I would like to go on and pursue the field of counseling psychology though I am also very interested in research having to do with positive psychology and health psychology. I am not so concerned about finding a job in my field as I am about making the amount of money I would prefer but I believe I can make it happen.

3 College Junior

Health & Safety: UF is well lit at night and provides students with boxes where they can quickly call someone for help if it is needed. Campus police are constantly securing campus and are quick to respond to a problem on campus

4 College Senior

Majors: Relatively Easy – I applied to the Psychology program as a transfer student. It was a normal application process and the most they asked from me were two separate paragraphs discussing why I wanted to be a psychology major and what I wanted to do after graduating. The first thing they really look at is your grades and whether you finished all of the pre-reqs. After that is out of the way they will look at your writing and extra-curricular involvement.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
