Diversity: UF is a very diverse university with students from everywhere. There are also lots of different groups with different interests, beliefs, cultures and orientations.

Campus Housing: I think they are nice enough. Some of the newer dorms are great and have separate rooms, like an apartment set up. Others are older. The cost is affordable and the convenience is pretty good since they are right on campus.

Transportation: Good transportation. Buses aren't usually full. Several shuttles to take you to bars downtown so you don't have to drink and drive. Seems good to me.

Weather: It rains alot in the summer and can get pretty hot but it isnt bad.Winters get cold, but they are mild. The biggest effect of weather is getting rained out unexpectedly, but if you watch the weather and carry an umbrella when it may rain, your fine.

Party Scene: I would say the nightlife is pretty good overall. The fraternities have parties every week, although you wont get into those without being a member outside of summer. There is a strip of bars and clubs close to the university, that is fairly nice. There is a good crowd most nights. The places are easy to get into, but getting alcohol underage varies from place to place. There are buses, but not many that run late at night. There is a program called SNAP that is free transportation for students that runs very late, it may be 24/7 but im not sure.

Campus Quality: UF has a lot to offer to students. It is a beautiful campus and we have an awesome staff, people are really willing to help students! There are tons of programs and majors

Greek Life: In terms of NPHC Greek Life, it's pretty big on campus. Most students felt like there was some pressure to be a part because of the high level of activities, social life, service and programs put on by Greek organizations. Often, you would hear Greeks doing calls to one another (specific sounds associated with their organizations) or wearing Greek gear, and because they were involved in freshman orientation and active in organizations on campus, coming into school, it almost seems natural that you might consider joining a Greek organization. NPHC Greeks do not have Greek houses at University of Florida.

Campus Housing: It was extremely easy to participate in the lottery process to get housing. I feel as if there was a lot of freedom, so that you did not feel constrained by a great deal of rules in the dorm. People were very social in the dorms which made dorms feel very much like home. In the case of older dorms, there was usually some sort of improvement going on to make dorms better. Honors dorms are especially very nice.

Diversity: It is diverse in quality of students, but the real acceptance or recognition is few and far between. There are less and less black students accepted every year, not really sure about other races.

2 College Senior

Drug Safety: I hear it is an epidemic but I think that it is a problem that could be addressed in all communities.

3 College Senior

Weather: It is very sporadic. There hasn't been a real winter in a long while. But it is genuine Florida Weather.

3 College Senior

Campus Food: Arredondo Cafe is a hidden gem as well as Amelia's Court Cafe in the Harn Museum. But the food is college food. Fatty foods and nothing really quality unfortunately.

4 College Senior

Scholarships: If you are a well rounded student, you have a better chance of getting scholarships. I got a lot of scholarships because I was in IB, did SG, and a lot of community service in low income communities. But look for scholarships that you qualify immediately after you receive you acceptance letter.

Majors: I am extremely happy with my program! I am studying wildlife ecology and conservation and I couldn't be happier. We learn so many things, and our classes are extremely hands on. We capture animals, everything from birds, bats, mice, and even alligators from an air boat! I've had some of the best experiences on my field trips from these classes. Also the faculty are wonderful and we have the best advisor around!

Weather: It rains in Gainesville a LOT!! Pretty much at least once a week. Which makes riding your bike very difficult. And also very irritating if you don't like it when your hair gets wet. So definitely invest in some rain gear! But overall, the weather is pretty reasonable more most times of the year. It does get pretty hot, but not overly cold. And since campus is so big you will sweat quickly trying to get across campus on a hot day. Just be prepared for that. I would recommend getting a bike, you won't sweat as quickly!

4 College Senior

Guys & Girls: Students are friendly. It is easy to make friends and hang out. Dress varies. Looks are diverse.

Technology: The computers can be a little slow at the Education Library.

3 College Senior

Transportation: The buses are not readily available to me because I live off campus, so taking the bus is only slightly convenient for me.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: Transportation is really good with buses running all day and take you all around the area of Gainesville. There are also other options with zip car and renting cars for a fee to travel around campus.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: Financial aid can be a hassle when it comes to paying for things and you don't have the money but they work with you.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: There are a lot of frat parties and other small parties that people throw at their apartments and such and there usually is always alcohol involved. Drugs on the other hand don't seem to common but it is also depends on who you hang around.

4 College Senior

Local Area: Beautiful weather, who doesnt enjoy florida sunshine and some football!

Parking: Although the permit costs isn't that bad, finding a parking space is just rather horrid. I do like, however, that they allow certain people with a specified amount of credit hours to purchase a different type of decal, which has better parking options. Although, those parking spaces still fill up quite fast.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: There are many apartments, but the bus rides become rather lengthy and, unless you want to pay for a parking decal or pay for parking on the side of the road (if you can find parking), then there is no free parking, except after a certain time. The costs are pretty ridiculous ($469 per person per month for four people? That's an apartment worth over $1,500 per month!)

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
