Weather: It rains a lot here during the summer which isn't a problem because it gives me a chance to wear my cute rain boots! Most of the time it's very sunny which gives me a change to go to Lake Wauberg with my friends and relax by canoeing and kayaking! I can't complain to much about the weather to be honest.

Academics: The Nursing program is so awesome! My advisers really work with me and help me figure out my classes. The workload is tough but the teachers are really intelligent and love what they're teaching! I am very satisfied with my education thus far.

Party Scene: Party School – every friday night it's gator night. everyone can get involved.

Overall Experience: Beautiful Compus – There is Alice lake, I have heart some one saw gators there.
The Gym is pretty good too.

Campus Housing: Good Times – living on campus; you get to be close by for the football games and tailgating, you get to bond with people who live near you and there are thousands of clubs to join.

4 College Senior

Local Area: Too Focused on Greek Life – Most people here are friendly, and there are a decent amount of options of things to do. But when I was a minor, it was much more difficult to find things to keep me busy.

Academics: Many Options for Courses – Psychology is the largest major at UF, therefore we get many benefits, such as many scheduling options for classes, including many really good online classes. Furthermore, we have our advisers, which cuts down on the long lines of general advising. The undergraduate research opportunities here are also some of the best statewide, with numerous chances to get involved, from being a research assistant to a participant.

4 College Senior

Academics: Very Varied – The academic quality at UF depends on which academic course you are on.

Health & Safety: Worsening Situation – When I was a freshman at UF, things were relatively safe. Crimes would happen once in a blue moon and the main safety issue was drunk drivers. But now, as a senior, I've seen it become more and more unsafe. Every year brings along more and more armed robberies, kidnappings, and hectic searching for criminals across and near campus. My roommate and I live a mile from campus and we alone have had to call 911 three times in the last 2 years because of crimes; from break ins to harassment. In none of the situations have the police managed to catch the people responsible. I look forward to graduating next semester and getting out of the spiraling safety situation here in Gainesville.

Off-Campus Housing: Good, but Somewhat Expensive – There are plenty of apartments around campus, but you have to start your search early if you want to get one within close walking distance to campus and classes. However, the rent prices can run a little high depending on where you choose to live. If you choose to live in one of the farther away apartment complexes, there are plenty of reliable buses that run very frequently to the most popular places to get you to campus and around town.

Diversity: UF seems pretty diverese to me. There are LOADS of clubs and organizations for minority groups, and there seems to be a lot of support behind them. I have met many people, from many backgrounds and all different places around the world while attending UF. Of course there are some people who aren't as accepting as others, but the majority of campus seems to appreciate the diversity.

Athletics: Great Spirit Overall! Almost everyone at UF has AMAZING school spirit, especially when it comes to sports. The facilities are nice, for both the school's athletes as well as the "regular joes".

Local Area: Very Chill – It's a very chill campus. Everyone does what they want and everyone is so nice. If you need help finding something 9 times out of 10 they will help you and give advice on how to get there or anything that you are doing.

Off-Campus Dining: There is a big variety of off campus dinning. There is many restaurants on the main road as well as a walmart, publix and target. There is a lot of fast food places as well. The only problems with them is that they are kinda far off campus to walk so you need to take a 15 min bus ride which is not bad. There are some that are in a walking distance to campus which is nice.

Overall Experience: Here at the university, although it is a big school there is plenty for students to do and get involved. Although the school is kinda very greek oriented you just need to find your own little group. I would suggest join a lot of groups, go out of your way and meet people in your hall if you live on campus.

Off-Campus Housing: Not Bad, Very Nice – There is a great and diverse option around campus ranging from low to higher prices. But all off-campus housing has buses that go from the neighborhood to school and to any shopping centers. The buses come about every 15 minutes so its not a bad wait. All the off-campus housing I have visited have been very accommodating with big rooms, kitchens and living areas. Plus the places always look clean and nice.

Transportation: Love It! Buses are extremely convenient! Constantly running and make it very easy to get to class, or really anywhere on time. Plus, it's free to students! And you don't have to worry about parking.

3 College Junior

Health & Safety: A Little Sketchy at Times – There are UF alerts of an armed robbery on or close to campus at the very least, once a month. I also saw a pretty bad and bloody fight once on campus. There were no cops or any kind of law enforcement to break it up. Overall, I feel relatively safe, but there is room for improvement.

2 College Junior

Parking: Pretty Bad – It's not really worth it to park on campus. Permits cost about a hundred bucks and it's close to impossible to find a parking spot. I always take the bus. Much more convenient.

4 College Junior

Greek Life: Greeks Are Their Own Thing – The Greeks are kind of separated from others. They don't dominate UF, nor are they invisible. They're just there really. Being a Greek mostly means parties and guys/girls. If you aren't a Greek, you can still find other parties and meet guys/girls elsewhere. All in all, it's not a big deal if you join the Greek system or not.

Off-Campus Housing: It all depends on where you live but overall i would say that it is better than staying off-campus. The only downside is that is further away from campus.

Administration: They are very strict when it comes to cheating and academic misconduct.

Campus Quality: The university of florida provides great academic programs as well as a great social life.

Majors: Psychology Was the Best Choice – I originally wanted to apply to vet school after my undergraduate studies until I took a chemistry class. After struggling so much in these introductory courses I made the decision to pursue a psychology degree and it was a great choice. I am happy with the way things have turned out and wouldn't redo it if given the choice. My career goal is to work with humane societies and create a rehabilitation center for dogs that have aggressive behaviors in order to eliminate the behaviors and give the animals a second chance at adoption. I do have concerns about finding a job since what I want to do currently doesn't exist but I am still optimistic to the idea.

Majors: I got to UF and am a Psychology major and I have never taken such interesting classes before. The courses cover a wide spectrum of topics and are very fun. There are revolving topic courses that change each semester sometimes a class will be about drug abuse and the next semester it could be about eating disorders. The professors are wonderful too and many are willing to help you in office hours or even just sit down and discuss your interests in Psychology.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
