Overall Experience: Professors for the math department suck. Except for 2 or 3 TA's and 1 or 2 Professors.

Allergies are really bothersome.

You could probably have a better experience her than I did, if you get out more and focus on other stuff.

Campus Housing: Grad housing is really quiet and good for studying. There are some annoying kids that run around during the day, but quiet time at night.

Grad housing has really smart, quiet people. A lot of other races. Some really friendly, some really attractive.

Campus Quality: Campus gyms are crowded. Too many people love the gators way too much, and I don't want to hear about it anymore.

My department seems decrepit a little. Constant construction going on.

Some water fountains taste bad. Some have bottle fillers and taste good.

Weather: Allergies are the worst. Hot and humid in the summer. Then days are short in the winter.

Good news about hot and humid is that students walk around with almost nothing on sometimes.

Technology: Wi-fi can be spotty in dorms, but overall everything else is very solid.

Overall Experience: I'm just a freshman still, but overall I'm beginning to like it here. There are tons of opportunities, great education, and it's so inexpensive. It can be disappointing that Greek dominates the social aspect so heavily, but you'll find you're own place in time.

Parking: Parking on-campus is really bad. If you live off-campus and have a car, you'll have to take a bus bc you won't find a spot. Also, you're guaranteed a ticket, or towed, if you park w/o a correct pass.

Off-Campus Dining: Gainesville has an array of fantastic, diverse food. Within two blocks you can get great Cuban, Jamaican, Korean, Greek, and pizza.

Local Area: Gainesville is definitely a cool place. It has a lot of character, great food, interesting bars, and a vibrant local community.

Guys & Girls: I mean, humans are humans. UF has 50,000 students so you'll get a lot of everything. However, it is a southern SEC school, so there is definitely a heavy preppy influence.

Off-Campus Housing: There are a fair amount of options for living off-campus bc Gainesville is such a big college town. However, it's like anywhere else; nice places to live are expensive and bad places are cheap.

Transportation: Free bus system that takes you all around gainesville, there's also a van called SNAP that'll pick you up anywhere on campus til 3am that'll give you a ride home. Pretty convenient all around.

Campus Quality: Overall, most everything at UF is well-maintained and up-to-date, granted for how large the campus is. Though there are some buildings that are dated, they are constantly renovating.

Weather: I mean, it's gainesville and it's Florida. It rains, and it's humid, and I'm typing this review on Nov. 11th and it's 81 degrees outside. There's aren't really season changes either.

Greek Life: Greek is pretty massive at UF. There are tons of different frats and sororities to choose from, and there are a lot of insane houses. They are highly influential on campus, and there are some organizations such as Student Gov. and other leadership groups that are 95% Greek that make it nearly impossible to join w/o having connections in Greek. Fraternities run the social scene as well, (huge house parties, renting out bars, tailgates), and if you're a guy, you're not allowed at the parties even if you know guys in the fraternity. So in a lot of ways, UF has a fantastic Greek experience where you'll meet tons of people and get a complete "college experience", however it can almost dominate and polarize the demographic of the campus population, isolating opportunities to those only in Greek. It's also pretty expensive (the fraternity I pledged was $5k a year, and one sorority can reach $15k if you live in the house) and the pledging can be intense. Overall, I think non-greeks are generally neutral toward Greeks, but there can be a sense of dislike of Greek's sometimes overbearing status on the campus.

Off-Campus Dining: There are restaurants cheap and expensive everywhere.

Local Area: If you come from a big city, you might not like it too much. But Gainesville warms up to any one I think.

Majors: It's not that hard to get internships. I am applying to some now. There are a huge variety available to students.

Guys & Girls: Most people you meet are very intellectual but at the same time social and fun. Half of the student body is probably in relationships and the other half like to party. People don't dress up to impress. Usually we wear shorts or jeans and a t-shirt.

Campus Food: The meal plan is pretty expensive. I went without it. But people say it's pretty much the same all the time, and it gets boring. But for people who don't have time to cook or can't cook, it's very convenient.

Party Scene: Smaller house parties where there are people that you know as well as get to know some other people are my favorite. However, clubs and bars can be super fun too. Just not the clubs where guys just come up from behind and try to grope you, that's not cool. But it is easy to get to midtown and downtown, even if you live off campus.

Weather: The weather is not that big of a problem. Usually the weather is beautiful. But in the fall it can rain a lot. And in the winter it gets pretty cold. But depends where you're from I guess. I'm from south Florida, so it gets pretty cold for my personal taste.

Transportation: The bus system is free for students and it is super convenient. Local traveling around Gainesville is not as convenient with the bus, but totally possible. Long distance, there are buses that stop on campus to go home, or ride sharing pages on Facebook where you can find a ride easily but at your own risk.

Some schools have certain advantages over others. Small schools give a feeling of community; large schools have lots of resources; private schools are ripe for close academic relationships with faculty; and state schools offer a good value. Well, UF is not your typical state school, and Gainesville is certainly not your stereotypical small town. Because this place is so big, it has all of the libraries, dorms, athletics, courses, clubs, and services you could want at a good price. But if you put forth just a little effort, you’ll find that the University also has more compassionate, down-to-earth professors, locals, and students that any small, private school could ever dream of having.

The best thing about going to a school like UF is that whatever you want to accomplish in life, it is probably obtainable through going to this school. You will never have to worry about not fitting in with anyone because the campus is a huge melting pot. Students are never bored on campus because there is literally always something to do with friends both on or off campus. And who wouldn't want to go to a school where the immense amount of school pride is literally unexplainable? It sure is great to be a Florida Gator.
