Greek Life

Greek Life: need to be in it to understand

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: As a student that does not have the time to be involved in Greek life but only has friends who are involved, I can say that Greek life is extremely popular at UD. Sometimes not being involved is great because there is a lot expected of these Greek members weekly, and some days as a Non-Greek you feel very left out.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greek life is celebrated frequently with parties over the weekends and holidays. On the other hand, Greek life plays an important role in promoting awareness for certain situations, such as college suicide or alcohol abuse.

4 College Freshman

Greek Life: Everyone that joins Greek life love it. I personally my self have went to social events where you get to meet the Greeks. A ton of people show up every time an event is held. There are lettered Greek houses on campus and many non-Greeks are indifferent about the Greeks.

5 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Just because I gave it a 5/5 doesn't mean that it compares to the schools down south. However, I do believe that the contributions our greek community does to give back brings them up from the 4/5 zone (for parties, looks, and greek life importance) up to the 5/5 spot. Unfortunately, the administration here has a vendetta against greek life and have been suspending many chapters over the past 5 years. If they can loosen their grip a little (and give fraternities the right to put there letters on houses so everyone can see), this greek life scene could soar higher than it is now. And it's already known as a great party school.

Those who are in Greek organizations often love it and think it is the best part of the entire college experience. Those that don't join often ignore the Greek presence and go about their own lives perfectly content without a Greek membership. This is one organization that tends to live in its own world. There are some Greek members who don't even like to associate with those who are not Greek. Luckily, there are not many who subscribe to this philosophy, and Greeks tend to mix with everyone and separate for Greek events.

Recently there has been a strong effort to stop hazing, binge drinking, and all other harmful activities normally associated with being Greek. This has resulted in the suspension or removal of most of UD's fraternities. Some are starting to return, but it has been pretty quiet without them around. The Greek community resents these actions and longs for the days of wild abandon when binge drinking was just a given.
