Scholarships: Don't Expect Much – Financial Aid is kinda of hard to come by at times. Although i did not qualify on a needs basis, i know many friends who complain about delays and whatnot. As far as scholarships, they offer many but they are relatively small compared to the cost, especially for out of state students.

Greek Life: Greeks Are Aren't the Bees Knees – Greek life is important to some and irrelevant to others. I think about 20% of the population is greek and i have several greek friends which is nice for social events. Some frats like Kappa Sig and KDR have a little more status but overall its not a big deal.

Transportation: Transportation at University of Delaware is great. There are shuttle buses every 10 minutes at all of the many bus stops, and if you want a ride late a night, there is a number you can call for a UD taxi. Taxi rides are free, but you have to wait a long time until they arrive.

Campus Housing: The dorms differ greatly at UD. Freshman year I was assigned the worse down on campus. We lost electricity, there was no space, and we did not have air conditioning. Despite the disadvantages, the social life of my dorm was greater than the more luxurious freshman dorm. So the experiences equaled out. Living on campus is very costly, but all of them are located close to campus. As a sophomore, I now chose to save money and rent an apartment off campus.

Campus Food: University of Delaware has a few different dining halls. Not all dining halls are the same. During my freshman year the closest dining hall was very small for the amount of students. In order to get great food, you had to come early and wait in very long lines. As the lines shortened, the delicious food ran out. You were always guaranteed cereal though (Lucky Charms: my fav!). Other dining halls were newer, more spacious, and always offered great food. Despite my experience with my freshman dining hall, UD offers "points" that can be used towards a food court on campus. The food court has a burger place, Quiznos, pizza, salad bar, sushi bar, and Chickfila Whenever I did not feel like using my dining plan, I would use points towards Quiznos.

Drug Safety: Drinking Is the Main Problem – I know there have been party busts, especially at the sports houses. However, people drinking have never caused any major problems or affected me in any way. Some people smoke and that is the main part of the drug scene that I know of.

Athletics: For a Division 1 School, the Sport Teams Aren't That Impressive – I didn't think that many students attended the games and they didn't even play exceedingly well when I went. The facilities are pretty good though. Those who do attend seem to have good school spirit.

Technology: Computers were almost always available when I needed one. There are friendly people to help you and the $5 printing allowance was enough for me. I love that there is wireless internet in the room and it is always available. This convenience causes me to use my own personal computer and printer in my room more often than the schools technology.

Scholarships: Tution for out of state students is significantly greater than Delaware residents. It is very unfortunate because I am choosing a field based on my love for teaching, not the paycheck. That being said, I get minimal financial aid and it will take me a very long time to pay back my student loans. I wish there was more opportunities to receive financial aid or be guarenteed to be on a work study program

Overall Experience: I Love My School – The University of Delaware is hands down the perfect place for me to be. I have found my niche and where I belong. The school is big enough where you can blend into the crowd when you want to, but I can walk down the street and say hello to at least three people I know. The only issue for me is that tuition is very expensive and I live seven hours away; I wish there was a way to make it closer

Campus Housing: Alive on Campus – Campus life is phenomenal!! There is always so much going on and so many activities to choose from there is never a dull moment. Lots of theater and musical events happen during the week and on the weekends, as well as movies, sports and club events. Most days it becomes what do I have time for and can schedule into my workload instead of twiddling my thumbs with nothing to do

5 College Sophomore

Technology: There are multiple computing sites on campus. University provides every student with $5 for printing at the beginning of every semester. The computers are well up to date. Still it helps to have your own laptop if you can afford it so you can be independent.

Majors: As a sophomore student at the University of Delaware, I have just begun my career as an accounting student and have just completed my first accounting course. So far, I enjoy the accounting program and my accounting professor was extremely helpful in the class. My goal is to graduate from the university with a bachelor's degree in accounting and to take the CPA exam in the hopes of becoming a successful accountant.

Overall Experience: So far, I have had a great experience at the University of Delaware. There are many opportunities to meet new people and enagage in different activities. As an accounting student, I have joined the Women in Business Club and Accounting Students Association. Students are welcome to participate in Greek Life or join a club sport. If I could do it all over again, I would definitely choose the University of Delaware. Becoming involved in all that the school has to offer makes the university seem smaller than it actually is.

Local Area: College Town Atmosphere – The University of Delaware gives off a warm atmosphere and is, in a sense, its own community. Main Street runs through campus and includes boutiques for shopping, restaurants, coffe shops, bookstores, a church, and convenience and food stores. Being so close to campus, Main Street is generally a place where students go to hangout and grab a bite to eat. Personally, I engoy going to the coffee shops to study for exams. Also, there is a mall only 10 minutes from campus; buses provide easy transportation for students.

Transportation: Ok If You Like to Wait Around – The buses are rarely on time and often leave early when they do get there before the scheduled time. It is usually better to walk even if it takes you 15 minutes to do so. The express system has buses that do not run on a timetable and just run continuously, but they get clumped up and instead of waiting the list 5 minutes for the next bus you may be waiting 20 minutes and end up late to class. Save yourself the stress and just walk instead. The only good thing about the buses is that they are gps tracked so UD has an app you can download so you know whether to should walk or not.

Greek Life: Does Not Matter – Many of the students that I know that I found out were in Greek life I would have not known before it had come up. The Greeks throw a lot of parties but no one feels required to join the Greeks as part of attending the University of Delaware.

1 College Junior

Campus Housing: Not So Great Depending on What You Wnat – Some of the newly built dorms have a lot of space, look very nice, and have personal climate settings. The older dorms however are terrible, some do not have AC for the hot weather here and often the ones that do will have the students shivering all night. In the winter they turn the heaters up so high that you will find many of the windows open. About half of the dorms are close to central campus and thus the classrooms, but if you live in the other half you will have to walk about 15-20 minutes or wait 15-20 minutes for the bus. There does seem to be advantages to all of the dorms, for example the older dorms for upperclassmen are located on central campus but are small while the dorms further away are new but require a walk.

Greek Life: Big here – Greek life is big here. However, it is not so big that you have to join to fit in. Frats are the main source of parties, but also provide great philanthropy. As a member of Greek Life here i strongly recommend it, but understand that it is not right for everyone

Overall Experience: Love it so far – People should really take these posts with a grain of salt. Usually it seems like there are two type of people those who love the school they go to and praise it and those who hate it and have a vendetta against it however. I'll admit my love for this school may blind me some of it's flaws, but i truly can't comprehend why anyone wouldn't enjoy it here. So far, in my freshman year I have met great friends, taken classes with fantastic teachers and gone to amazing parties. I'm not saying this school is perfect and everyone should make the right college decision for themselves. Take the good reviews with the bad, but in my honest opinion this school is amazing

Party Scene: Parties everywhere – There are always parties on campus. I have only been to two parties that have been busted and all that happened was that the students were asked to leave. Parties in the beginning of the year are more likely to get busted, but only because of the influx of new freshman roaming the street. This quickly changes. People who are 21 and older have plenty of bars to go to. Parties are easy for both girls and guys to get into

Local Area: Nice town close to big cities – Newark has everything you need in a college town. However, after a while many students crave a change of pace so the close cities of Baltimore and Philly provide a nice break

2 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Not So Great – I probably wouldn't choose to go to UD if I had to do it all over again. The university seems as though they are just trying to get kids in, run them through the process, and push them on out. They do not encourage one to actually think outside the box or promote change. To make it all worse the police run around campus busting every party and handing out tickets whenever they can.

1 College Sophomore

Administration: Very Unforgiving – The police at UD and the Newark PD just seem to be looking to arrest students and make money for the city. They give out jay-walking tickets left and right and it seems as though you can't even have a party anymore without the police coming to knock on your door and issue a violation. It is very annoying as students to have to deal with both the Newark PD and UD PD, as if one wasn't already bad enough.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Good sports – The sports here are really good, in particular football. At times there can be less fans than there used to be, but many students still come out to support the time. A issue with not letting students tailgate made some students not come, but the stadium was still packed with fans, both non-student and student. Fortunately, it does not seem like the tailgating thing will last long or be as strict in future years, so that will bring back fans. Either way sports are a great option here to either attend or be a part of. Many students partake in club sports as well

By the end of their years here, most students look back and are happy with their choice. They've received a good education and generally met some people with whom they will keep in touch for many years in "real" life. This love of the school comes about gradually for many students. While some students love it automatically and fit in easily with the relatively homogenous campus, others take longer to find their place and truly start to enjoy themselves.

While many students have a slow start here at Delaware, they all report that once they decided to give it a chance, they found their experience rewarding both academically and socially. This University tends to provide a nice balance between a social life and an academic one. There is always plenty of time to hang out and get your work done, so no matter what you are interested in, you have a chance to get it all done. This is the major benefit of attending the University of Delaware.
