4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: University of Delaware's campus is exceptionally beautiful. The campus green looks straight out of a college ad, a perfect place to have a picnic or take a jog. The gyms and dining halls are conviently placed near residence halls so that students don't have to walk all the way across campus. There are a million places to eat and hang out, and the library is a perfect place to study. It seems like there are new events going on everyday!

Weather: The weather at UD is usually nice and brisk in the fall and spring, not too cold and warm enough that you want to spend most of your time outside. Classes are far enough away that you get a good amount of exercise, but close enough that it isn't too much of a hassel when it's raining.

Campus Quality: I am a freshman and I love the engineering program at the University of Delaware already. All the professors are very professional and intelligent and are sincere about creating engineers out of all of their students. There are plenty of opportunities for studying abroad, undergraduate research, and internships as long as you talk to your advisors and get in touch with the career counselors.

Campus Housing: social atmosphere is awesome! Everyone is friendly and eager to make friends. Dorm conditions are average for a college freshmen

5 College Freshman

Weather: we have all four seasons which is nice, plus we are home for two months for winter break which is during the coldest months. Therefor, you are not walking around campus in the freezing cold.

Parking: There is almost always open spots in the parking garages, but if not, finding parking spots can be difficult

4 College Freshman

Transportation: You can download the udel app onto your phone which will tell you exact pick up and drop off times for the bus. There is no cost and it is very helpful

Health & Safety: There has been a lot of violence recently including robberies at restaurants near freshmen dorms, freshmen getting jumped on their walks home right next to their dorms, and a shooting in an off campus apartment but UD text alerts go out ASAP as well as emails detailing the occurrances. The police are always out in their cars and on bikes and it just seems like some of these acts are out of their reach.

Majors: The process of getting into my Biomedical Engineering major was somewhat of a hassel. What happened was I applied into Engineering Undeclared, which was a mistake. The Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering programs are restricted majors, so it is harder to transfer into than to be accepted into from high school. If you are slightly interested at all in either of these two majors, I would suggest applying into them from high school and transferring out to a different type of engineering or major if you do not like it. This is much easier than the reverse.

Weather: It rains a lot in up in Newark. When it rains the campus can become very cold. The classes are relatively close to each other, so it is not so bad walking in the rain to class. Just make sure you carry an umbrella and you should be fine.

Health & Safety: Overall the University of Delaware is a safe place. The campus does have a drinking problem and one student died of alcohol poisoning. If you choose to hang with the right crowd and make smart choices then you will have no problem avoiding this kind of trouble. Make sure you keep your valuables close to you because people have been known to steal things, especially in the Morris Library where school books are the prime target. Earlier in the semester, my hoodie got stolen.

Athletics: In terms of the University of Delaware's competitiveness in sports, it has very little. If I were to compare all of our varsity level sports teams to a Big Ten school, we would not be very fun to watch. Sports are not a huge part of the campus. A lot of our varsity teams are not that good, so many do not follow up on how our teams are doing. If someone wanted to go play college sports in the hopes of gaining enough skill to join a pro league, then this school is not for you.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: We have great diversity on our campus. In terms of race, I think that we are unmatched. Our exchange program has allowed for many different races to be on our campus. I tend to notice a higher concentration of Asians here and I think this is due to our great exchange program. People are very accepting of others religious backgrounds and many bible study groups are held around campus.

Local Area: UD has the perfect college town. Not only is there so much to do on campus and on Main Street, but places outside of UD (malls, cities, etc.) are made very accessible by buses, trains, and student transportation systems.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: I have met people of many different ethnicities and backgrounds at UD but there are mostly white people who attend. I don't see that as a negative thing but some people may. There are plenty of black people along with hispanic and other races.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: A lot of people smoke and drink but it isn't so much that it defies the school. There are over 18,000 undergraduates so there are bound to be some people who drink. If you don't want to be a part of that, it's okay. No one would treat you differently or try to make you feel awkward if that isn't what you're about.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: If you are looking for a Greek life that dominates campus life then you won't find that at the University of Delaware. The Greeks are regular students and are viewed as such. They only have to sacrifice a small amount in order to have a built in network of friends on campus.

4 College Freshman

Academics: The University of Delaware is a great school. The academics aren't tough enough that you will be overrun, however they aren't so easy that you won't be prepared for the real world. There are 100s of companies that focus on recruiting employees from our school before looking at other colleges.

4 College Freshman

Academics: Although I am only a freshmen, most if not all of the professors that I have had personally or even heard of have been excellent. The workload will prepare you for the real world and there are more options as far as possible areas of study go, than at many other universities.

2 College Freshman

Health & Safety: So far this semester, there's been 4-5 armed robberies and 1 death by shooting. The campus apparently feels much more safe than it is, but some areas are definitely better than others.

Campus Food: The food is horrible! Definitely the worst part about UD. A lot of the dining halls are different, and some are better than others. The staff is always very nice and friendly, but the food is dismal, although they do make a few decent things.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Food: I've only ate o n campus a few times. The food is excellent.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I participated in the Corporate Sponsorship Agreement program this past semester and had a very difficult time with the process.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: The caliber of students at UD's MBA program makes the classroom experience that much more enjoyable and intellectual.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: It offers flexible scheduling and small class sizes for graduate students.

By the end of their years here, most students look back and are happy with their choice. They've received a good education and generally met some people with whom they will keep in touch for many years in "real" life. This love of the school comes about gradually for many students. While some students love it automatically and fit in easily with the relatively homogenous campus, others take longer to find their place and truly start to enjoy themselves.

While many students have a slow start here at Delaware, they all report that once they decided to give it a chance, they found their experience rewarding both academically and socially. This University tends to provide a nice balance between a social life and an academic one. There is always plenty of time to hang out and get your work done, so no matter what you are interested in, you have a chance to get it all done. This is the major benefit of attending the University of Delaware.
